I don't understand...OP has a good point: Peace walker is a high-ranking contender for the best handheld game for this gen

and people are laughing at him? Is it that unbelievable for a game that got 40/40 on Famitsu to have that title?

Even if it's just more of the same, I'm totally ok with that.

Just based on the short gameplay videos we've seen so far, it looks like that will be the case so...in other words it's going to be just as epic

You can read the full interview here, but I'm going to highlight the important part:

The previousXenoworks were heavy on cutscenes. How do you balance a dramatic story with gameplay and what have you learned over the years?

"Keeping balance between those elements is the most important task we must work at. As you know, the heavy volume of story has been a core factor ofXenoworks. But now we realized that too heavily orienting toward visuals and stories would ruin the fundamental reason for the existence of games."

Even as a guy who plays games for the plots and character development, gameplay is what ultimately distinguishes a jrpg from a graphic novel. Although it brings to mind the question: What companies/developers are good at 'balancing the elements'? Most genres focus on one or the other...there doesn't seem to be much variety. Why is it so rare that we get a game with good gameplay AND a good story?

I've spent around 400 hours in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

200+ in Final Fantasy tactics: War of the lions

100+ in Jump Ultimate Stars

200+ in Disgaea 1 and 2 (DS and PSP respectively)

I could go on...

It's even getting a bit difficult to justify a $50 Wii game...

Maybe this is why handhelds are doing so well (in Japan) and consoles sales are always tens of thousands apart from them

I can buy a 30 dollar ds or psp game that can last me 200 hours.

The fire monkey thing and the electric horse look cool

Eh, you're complaining that jrpg developers have abandoned consoles in favor of handhelds, which cost considerably less to develop on?

Without handhelds, there wouldn't BE that many jrpgs to speak of. It makes you look even worse when you say 'a waste' because handheld rpgs so far have been largely amazing and nostalgic
