If I can just interrupt this flame fest for a brief moment I'd like to add my own 2 cents on SWTOR to the pot.

I played during the big beta weekend and I think that it's a really polished game that innovates the MMO genre in terms of adding a ton of story content.

However it's also still very much a MMO and it has most of the traditional MMO trappings that you find in WoW or any of the other big MMO's of recent years.

I think that it's going to be an enjoyable game for people that are Star Wars fans or enjoy MMO's, but people looking for something completely new or fresh are probably going to end up disappointed.

I also wrote up a full post on my blog about my impressions from the beta, if you are interested in a more in depth look:

It's a really fantastic storytelling experience. I'd classify it more as an interactive story than an actually game, as it is very very light on actual gameplay.

The great story more than makes up for it though, in my opinion. One of the best stories I've experienced in 2011 on any medium

I also wrote a review of this a little while ago that you can check out here if you're interested:

Hmmm... Tie Fighter is a good one.

A new Transport Tycoon would rock

To be honest I would expect that anyone that had an idea for KotOR 3 would immediately be asked to put it to good use in SWTOR at least for the forseeable future. Only if SWTOR completely bombs would I expect them to go back and think about making a single player OR game again.

Old Republic seems like it will be a quality MMO, so if you have enjoyed WoW I think you'll get a lot of fun out of SWTOR.

On the other hand, if you're completely sick of the type of gameplay that WoW is offerent then SWTOR is probably not going to impress you much.

Nice curve ball with "To The Moon". I had actually not stopped to consider that that is totally a sci-fi themed game! Should have put that on my list... Oh well.

That was definitely a very great experience of 2011, though I would hesitate in calling it a game so much as an interactive story (still totally worth getting and playing through, mind you).

Also surprised that a couple of people are calling out Red Faction: Armageddon, which I thought was a big disappointment after Guerrilla, but to each their own :)

Thanks for all the answers. Really interesting to see.

I would have to say I find it a whole lot better than Morrowind. Never could get really into Morrowind at all, but am really enjoying my time with Skyrim

Since I'm running a sci-fi themed blog I've decided I'm going to do a top 10 of the greatest sci-fi video games of 2011, instead of just a normal game of the year list.

It was actually not all that easy to find 10 sci-fi games that I felt were worthy of being in a top 10 games of the year list, but I think I've managed to come up with a decent list.

In case you're interested in seeing my picks, I've just started with a post on the top 10-6 games:

Top 10-6 Sci-Fi Games of 2011

What do you guys think is the best sci-fi game of 2011? Portal 2? Crysis 2? Something else?

Unfortunately Anno 2070 came out just too late for me to try and give that a shot. Could otherwise have been a cotender also. At least for me personally.

I also had to give up on including SWTOR, since it's not out until the end of December and it's not really fair to try to evaluate a MMO in just a few days.
