If Light is now a "whiny loser" as you say, then that in itself is already more than enough reason not to watch this movie. Why? Because in the original, Light is incredibly intelligent and strategical (although he becomes more and more unhinged as the show goes on, and loses track of his goal, but that's a different story), and the fact that he and L are both like that, and the major battle of wits that plays out between them, is what makes the show so good in the first place (last third of the series after L's death doesn't live up to the two thirds before it imo. Near and Mello can't compare with neither L nor Light).
The fact that the reviewer apparently thinks it's okay that Light is now a "whiny loser", speaks volumes to me, and tells me that he probably doesn't know the original well enough. And yeah, trying to cram most of the series into one movie is nonsensical in the first place. It can't possibly turn out well.
Sounds like yet another case in the long line of cases where Hollywood remakes a Japanese anime/manga classic into a western movie, and butchers it. It's like they're just completely incapable of doing any anime/manga source materials from Japan justice or something, it's really annoying...If you have to recreate it, then give the original the respect it deserves, and make it into a series, and make it right. I'm going to avoid stepping on this landmine, and stick to the amazing original. The rest of you should too. You know you're going to be way better off if you do.
@jaegarultima: I really liked the characters in 13, and I don't much care for the characters in 15 (apart from King Regis and Luna). I can't stand the annoying blond guy, and I hate how the whole group of characters I'm playing as basically looks like a Korean boyband. The bromance is too strong too, it's creepy. Having only male playable characters is one thing. Although it's not my preferance, I can deal with that. It's the way they made said group of male characters that bothers me. I also really liked the story in 13 (not so much in 13-2 and Lightning Returns), but I think the story in 15 is average at best, even after the updates and DLC's that fixes some of the issues with it. Both of these things pale in comparison to my biggest issue with the game though: the combat gameplay. It's INCREDIBLY boring. My least favourite battle gameplay of any JRPG I've ever played. If you're going to make a JRPG with an active real-time action kind of gameplay, then you need to do it right, otherwise stick to turn-based. See Xenoblade Chronicles for an example of how to do active real-time action RPG combat right, that game's combat is fun. Spending most of my time holding down the square button (seriously, holding it down!? Couldn't they at least have made us have to push the buttons, and input combos?), and occasionally using team attacks and the triangle special/heavy whatever attacks, and constantly using items to replenish health or whatever, is not fun AT ALL. Yes, 13's auto attack button meant that wasn't all that fun for a while either. But it had the paradigm shifts, healing spells (instead of having to use items all the time!), all the strategies that came with the buffs and debuffs from Synergist and Saboteur, the defense of Sentinel, staggering opponents, etc. In the tough fights you had to be fast in your reaction, switching paradigms, keeping you on your toes all the time. You had to be very active, and you couldn't just survive on bringing a shit-ton of powerful items with you, like you can in 15. Also, 13 had really cool, awesome magic spells, while the limited use of spells in 15, is a joke if you ask me, it feels like they heavily downgraded one of the core features of FF games. The summons aren't nearly as cool as in 13 either, and again, require very little of you, while in 13 you had to actively use them in combat after activating them for the full effect. Lightning Returns had really fun combat as well. So yeah, personally I don't like 15, and I DO like 13. I certainly can't agree with G4mBi7's claim about 13 being the worst FF game. To each his own I guess.
All I want is a sequal to Megaman X Command Mission, or at least another Megaman RPG game like it. Also, we already have the Megaman Anniversary Collection, and the Megaman X Collection, on the Gamecube and PS2, so I guess this new collection is mainly just to get 9 and 10, and maybe to have the games on a newer console? Also, not including Megaman & Bass is lame. Not releasing the collection on Switch is also super lame, considering the first 6 games in the series were all on the NES, and there are a lot of old Nintendo fans who are fans of the series like myself. But the lamest thing of all, is that you're splitting all of this up in multiple releases even though all the games would fit just fine on one, single Megaman collection disc. You've really fallen Capcom...It's a really long time ago now, but you used to be cool once...
@liquidlearner: "Weapon breaking is a fantastic mechanic and I'm glad they have it in there. Otherwise I'd end up with some good weapons and never have any interest in anything else."
This to me is not a bad thing, but a good one. I already don't want to use a bunch of different weapons anyway, in fact I mostly just want to get the Master Sword, which I consider much cooler looking than any of the other weapons anyway, and stick to using that. Plus finding an awesome, rare lightning sword that you got for completing a difficult shrine trial, and then breaking it after a short time, and then possibly never getting it again, sucks big time. I sure as hell also don't want to hang it in my house for display, I want to use my cool weapons when I get them. So, I hate the weapon breaking mechanic, it's awful, and it's detracting from my fun. Also, the "breaking" and 10-min cooldown thing on the Master Sword is unforgivable...
For Owerworld music, I wasn't thinking of having the same music everywhere, but different tracks depending on the area you are in. One for Faron Woods, one for the Lanayru Mountains, etc. But I see your point.
Also, the difference between collecting heartpieces and collecting orbs from shrines in order to get heart containers is that the heart pieces could be found and collected in a myriad of different ways, where as the orbs are all collected in the same way; from shrines. Yes, the shrines have different trials, and some have inventive ways as to how to get to them in the first place, but it's just not the same at all as the million different inventive ways you collected heart pieces in OoT, WW, and TP.
You make some other good points though. And I certainly agree about the dungeons.
