I haven't played this so I can't give a valid opinion of the game. However, just on watching it, it seems terrible. I'm not into sexist stereotyping, incoherent narrative or button mashing whilst staring at flashing lights. I just couldn't be less interested in this game if it was a blank screen.

Strange, it seems to have garnered universally high praise. I don't get it. Oh well.

See Activision and Bungie or Sega and CA for reference

I totally disagree actually. I feel the problem with games these days is a lack of real passion and invention. Games were labours of love for old developers like the Bitmap Brothers on the Amiga. Sure, the graphics consisted of blocks and pixels but that just meant more effort was required to build an atmosphere through tension, level design and game mechanics.

It's the soul that has gone out of gaming these days. Why was Dark Souls such a massive hit? It wasn't because it was a tough game. It's because From actually created a consistent, intriguing and connected world, full of secrets to discover. This is so rare nowadays that it made the game stand apart.

Commonly today, there is no such invention. All pvp in fpses is the same, all MMOs are the same, all strategy games are the same. The emphasis is on graphics and lighting but realism and depth are barely considered.

Destiny is very repetitive and shallow. The universe is hollow, the story wretched. No effort was put into the game's soul. Rather, the focus was on shiny graphics. It's amazing how many big titles have released to howls of derision in the past couple of years for the same reason.

I think that, whereas music is mainly trash these days (manufactured and all about showing flesh and grinding dance moves), games are suffering the same fate. Tweak the graphics, add some cutscenes, get a famous voice actor, throw in a couple of gimmicks for the back of the box, push it out the door.

We need more of those small developers who're passionate about creating new worlds and providing people with an immersive experience.

@jeff19342 I don't really disagree with anything you've said. I still think it's an incredibly addictive game and a good game overall though. The complete absence of any imagination in the character customisation, storyline and narrative are extremely disappointing, as is the empty feeling universe (not to mention the long loading times). But I still think it's higher than a 6 (Polygon and Giant Bomb also gave it a 6 btw).

Let's hope Bungie can really step things up for the next instalment.

@clintonsnutsack @Thathanka What's your point? Did you disagree with the IGN review then I take it? Which parts did you feel were incorrect?

Sorry Kev but there's no way this is a 6. I would give it 7.8 (just shy of very good) which is incidentally exactly what the excellent review over at IGN has awarded it.

The thing that gives me hope about Destiny is that the fundamentals are sound. The mechanics, art style, balancing, graphics and sound are all fantastic. It's just that there isn't enough content and what is there is repetitive or opaque. Hopefully Bungie can do something to rectify this. Destiny still has a chance to become a truly great game.

Rome 2, Dark Souls 2, Watchdogs and now Destiny. What an all-time terrible 12 months for the most eagerly anticipated games :(
