Listen, I don't who you are and what you do, but GS said that Oblivion had better graphics on the PS3 than the 360 and so as Dirt. Yes, I have heard the textures argument and that's pretty much all you can come up with to prove that the 360 is more powerful??? Please, we have yet to see anything on the 360 that can run so many things on the screen as the PS3 does with Heavenly Sword for example. If you're going to say that the 360 has better textures, then it's very easy as well to say that the PS3's processor is more powerful and can handle more stuff on the screen at the sametime. Now, it is possible that the 360 can do better textures, but that definitely does not make it a better system!! Also, as far as textures go, I am pretty sure that the PS3 does just fine so it's like the 360 is blowing it completely out of the water in that category and given more time the developers will be able to take more advantage of its architecture and the operating system will shrink some more, so the texture argument is just lame right now. We don't know what the system can do because the graphics are not solely dependent on the graphic card (Cell produces graphics too) and the System has not been out a full year yet, so give it sometime, will you?

i hear what ur saying man but its hard to argue that the cell is better when most devlopers hate it. it may be more powerful but if no one can use it that well it renders it useless... but i hear you im sure that in a year i might be eating my words but till then we will see. plus ill take a better gpu over cpu anyday

Developers hate it because it's harder to program for it right now, but Sony is helping a lot these days, so it should be better. I am a developer myself (C#.net), and if they told me to go back and program in Assembly Language, I would be very pissed. Sony just has to make it easier for developers to program on their plateform which they are doing. they paid EPIC $$$ to optimize the Unreal engine for the cell and they are going door to door to help other companies...etc. As for a better GPU vs CPU, the PS3 is very capable in terms of graphics, so again you can't speculate. Also, check this article on how powerful the Cell processor is LINK, It's a very powerful piece of hardware..

Hey all, i have always gone with playstation over xbox/wii and have alway been happy with it but it seems a lot of people are against th new PS3 and recommened the XBOX360? What do you guys think? And is it essential to have a plasma or HDTV for you to really see the difference from ps2 and xbox to these new machines?

thanks

Guitartod

it really depends what your into game wise. if your into japanise games and you dont mind that u dont have the most powerful console then get a PS3. if your into FPS racing action more american games then get a 360

Oh please don't start with non sense. 360 is not more powerful than the PS3. Both systems are powerful and they have completely different architechture. We don't know which is more powerful yet so don't start this crap. Only time will tell. The recent game releases on both platforms are the same and some games are better on the PS3, i.e. Dirt!!

Anyway, to answer the TC question, I would say it will depend on what you want to play and what type of games you like and what you're looking for to get out of your system. The PS3's library isn't as good as the 360's RIGHT NOW, but that will change in the future. The PS3's line up for 2008 is nothing but amazing (early 2008 actually) and this holiday season we're getting some very good games as well. I don't want to sound bias, so in that sense I will just tell you why I bought a PS3. I bought mine solely for the back compatibility and for Gran Turismo 5. Obviously if you have been around you would know that the 60GB model is your best choice for that, and that's what I have. A lot of good games are coming our way starting this holiday season and carrying to all of 2008. Also, I love the BR movies. I definitely think the PS3 is the best bang for the buck as the 360 has a lot of hidden costs (100 dollars extra for wifi, 179 dollars for an add-on HD-DVD, batteries for controllers..etc) the PS3 plays Blu-Ray movies right out of the box and has built-in wireless (it's important for me personally to have this feature, so if I owned a 360, I would have to spend the extra 100 dollars) and the controllers have rechargable batteries. Also, don't forget that the 360 has RROD problem and is likely to see the shop sometime in its life time (3 year warranty only covers RROD problem and not other problems the 360 has like its DVD drive and others. To be fair though, I know a couple of people that have not had any problems, but RROD is a big problem costing M$ big dollars). All these reasons put together = PS3 for me.

Darn it, now I mighthave to get a PS3. Maybe it can still flop everywhere else. I don't want to shell out $600.

SuperVegeta518

Just an FYI, a 399 dollars version is coming out very soon, so it's on 600 to let you know.

Don't just put one side of the story in this, the Xenos > RSX, plain and simple, SONY can spout all they want, but the fact remains, the PS3 has LESS available memory and has to eat into that memory for AA, HDR and Frame Buffers.

The Xenos is not only more powerfull, but is much more efficeint, when the RSX hits a Pixel heavy portion of a game, the Vertex Pipelines go idle and vise versa, wasting those Pipelines, since the RSX has dedicated Pixel and Vertex Pipelines.

The Xenos doesn't have this wasted Pipeline problem because of its USA (Unified Shader Architecture), because all 48 Unified Pipelines can do BOTH, Pixel and Vertex.

Nagidar

so let me get this straight. You trying to say that the 360 is more powerful than the PS3, right? I don't know, but for some reason, I have a very hard time believing this. I will state one simple fact to you. The PS3 is made by SONY, which happens to be the world's largest and best electronic maker vs xbox360 which is made by MICROSOFT who barely makes any hardware at all. Sony quite possibly has the world best hardware engineers working on its state of the art products, how in the world do you want me to believe you?? it's not like a very reputable website came out and stated which one is more powerful i.e. tomshardware, but ALL experts on this subject manner agree that the PS3 is more powerful on paper. DEVELOPERS need MORE TIME to take advantage of its architecture which we see them do. The games keep looking better and better on the PS3, and there has been examples of games looking better on the PS3 like Oblivion and Dirt. Give it some time and we will find out which one is better.

All these facts that you throw here and there don't really mean anything. are you a game developer? Do you know how to take advantage of the PS3 architecture? If you're not then please leave it at that. I am a developer myself (C#.net not a game developer), and I have a Computer Engineering degree, but I would not attempt to talk about something I don't know anything about. I am familiar with the Intel and MIPS architectures. I wrote simulators for them. The Cell obviously works diffenetly and Sony has a vision for it in terms of Graphics that I don't know about (but they have some of the world's best engineers so you have to give them a chance at seeing what they can do with it). The simple fact is that both systems are powerful, it's a matter of time to see which one will come out on top. give the PS3 another year, then we'll talk. So far though, PS3 games don't look any worse (the more recent ones) and it will only get better from there.

like I said, I am doing a crossfire set up, so I kinda have to go with ATI. My motherboard is from Intel and it supports crossfire. I have not bought the motherboard yet, but planning on buying it soon. Maybe I will just go with the 2900xt. I don't know.
