Has anyone noticed that over the years, survival horror games have become more action-based? There is not as much exploration and puzzle-solving as there was in the past. Why is this? Eventually are all survival horror games going to be like the "Devil May Cry" series?

a third-person perspective Doom 3?

In other words, is it a true survival horror game like the Silent Hill and Fatal Frame series, or is it just a third-person shooter in outerspace?

Of course PS3 is the best. Is that really even a question?

Ok, I know there are people on here who are going to knit pick about aspects of these games, and say things like "Oblivion's leveling system is messed up", or "Oblivion's AI is messed up", or "Fallout 3 doesn't have enough consequences when choosing dialogue", etc, etc, etc. But seriously people, these game are incredibly advanced compared all the other video games out there. They are entire worlds with a lot of unscripted, random, activities going on in the back ground. If you attack an innocent NPC in either game, the guards (or the whole town) turns against you. NPCs react to your charisma. If you try to hide in Fallout 3 and an enemy sees you they actually acknowledge that you were trying to hide. In both game if you steal something and if the NPC sees you, they actually acknowledge your actions. And the list goes on and on. The "Gothic" series comes close to being as advanced as these games, but not quite.

This is advanced stuff people. You have to at least appreciate the amount of work and time that must have gone into creating these games. Other games out there like shooters and adventure games may look nice and be fun to play, but are no where near as advanced, intelligent, or complex as Fallout 3 and Oblivion. One of the so-called "advanced" shooters out there is Crysis, and what does it really have that's so advanced? Good graphics, good physics, and the ability to shoot palm trees? Big deal. Compared to Fallout 3 and Oblivion, Crysis is nothing but a brainless run-and-gun game. Bioshock is a lot better in this regard, and is far more advanced overall than Crysis, but is still not to the level of Fallout 3 and Oblivion. Survival horror games often have great atmosphere, gameplay, and are a lot of fun to play, but are still not nearly as state-of-the-art as Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

Come on now, let's give Fallout 3 and Oblivion credit where credit is due.

Unreal Tournament 3 has graphics just as good as GeOW2, and UT3 came out on PS3 back in 2007. So why the big fuss about GeOW2 graphics? GeOW2 graphics are good, but not the best. There are other games with equally good, or arguably better graphics. And anyways Uncharted 2 will have the best graphics when it comes out.

I can't believe that there are people that think Fallout 2 is superior to Fallout 3. It's not even a comparison. That's like comparing Ghosts 'n Goblins on NES to Resident Evil 4. Fallout 3 is so superior to Fallout 2, that the difference is laughable. Fallout 2 looks and plays like an ancient game in comparison.

Opinions?

I already have these games:

  • Oblivion
  • Silent Hill Homecoming
  • Fallout 3
  • Warhawk
  • Untold Legends
  • Folklore
  • The Club
  • Siren Blood Curse

I am also thinking about getting Uncharted because the demo is really good. The MGS4 demo seems good too. I have played the Dead Space demo and it seems repetitive, so I probably won't get that game.

Are there any other games you all recommend? Or are there any other games coming out soon?

Thanks.

Third Person perspective is MUCH better. I generally don't like First Person perspective games, but some of them are good such as Bioshock and Condemned Criminal Origins. And the Penumbra games demos I have played seemed to be pretty good too.
