This is why we are more than just an animal.

hartsickdiscipl

No, humans are animals and share their rules and limitations.

How can you say something like that when you look at humanity? Yes, we do have some very animalistic behaviors, but there is something very different about us.

Name one characteristic that humans have that other animals do not. The only trait that is unique to us is a higher intellect, and that's about it.

Hip Hop, to my understanding, is the umbrella term used to describe the genres of music that branched off from the music that developed in primarily black neighborhoods in the 70s. Thus, I think that everything, from Beastie Boys to Tupac to the sh*t of today, is hip hop.

I see what people are trying to do by differentiating rap from hip hop, but in a pure technical sense, the two terms are interchangeable. I would classify the more "hardcore" gangster rappers that you are talking about as "gangster rap" (NWA, Ice-T, basically anyone under Death Row Records, tentatively would say Biggie as well). The mainstream hip hop of today is basically a fusion of 90s pop and traditional hip hop, as the success of people such as Kanye West showed that one didn't necesarily need a criminal or impoversihed background to make it. I'd call this type of music "hip-pop" (Eminem after MMLP, lil Wayne, etc).

Not true. When it makes you feel bad to do something, that means that your conscience is telling you that it's immoral. There doesn't have to be an immiment threat of reprisal or a spoken/unspoken agreement with others.

hartsickdiscipl

That is just societal conditioning though, humans do not have an inherent moral compass, no animal does.

If I found out Christianity was not true and there was no God it would impact the way I live my life as far as what motivates me. I would still go to church. I would still evangelize. I would still do charity work. I would still practice apologetics. Because it is what benefits me. At that point the only obligation I have is to myself and to no one else. I suffer no consequences for believing a lie or getting others to believe that lie. As long as it benefits me I'm all good. maheo30

Morality is derived from natural selection; it was beneficial for social mammals to care about the well-being of their kin, as it increased their own odds of survival (more security, hunting ability, and a wider selection of mates). Thus it is completely incorrect to say that without religion, people wouldn't care about what happened to others. In fact, that belief reveals selfishness on a whole new level; you're only motivation to be a good person is the threat of divin retribution.

i don't see why he got fired, this is not related to his work in any way... If some dude acts like a dick for 3 minutes in their personal time - that has no bearing on his job.

What makes bosses think that they are in position to punish their employees for stuff they did outside the workplace that are completely unrelated to their job?

Crunchy_Nuts

It makes the employer look bad.

Not really. If i see some guy doing something stupid, i'm not going to say "Damn, the douchebags who this guy works for must be just as bad!"

Another religion bashing thread. How original. I agree, but i mean, isn't all of this pretty obvious already? Christians may be beating their slaves but you're beating a dead horse (anyone? anyone?) :P

17/23 Not that bad for an Iconic 4x4 vehicle that seats 7

Ehh not as bad as I was expecting. I still wouldn't pay that much for gas, though.
