What happened to meaningful choices in dialogue? Storylines that asked philosophical questions?

Planescape Torment was ahead of it's time. Oblivion is still stuck in the past.

Oblivion was just downright shallow.

Yes I know, and Planescape Torment was deep, and now RPG gamers are washed up on the shore.

the matrix is lame. mediocre cyberpunk,a poor man's neuromancer.

i think its funny how for the longest time Todd Howard and his merry bunch of bethsoft asswipe devs went on and on about "isometric being dead",...and "first person/real time is soo much more immersive" ,then blizzard comes around and owns them by announcing diablo 3 as well as keeping the series in it's isometric roots.

Cocacolacowboy

So very true. Also, Divine Divinity came out AFTER Morrowind and was a much better RPG.

Even Gamespot Agree's. Not that it matters.

Interesting selection. Have you played either franchise before?

Nope,

but turnbase strategy RPGs bore me.

Hah. Fallout 1 & 2 where turn based. If you've never played either then what do you assume the turn based combat is like?

Your just a fanboy.

I just recently got in to RPGs, and I beg to differ. Blue Dragon is awesome, Pokemon Pearl, Oblivion (why the hate), Mass Effect, and Fable are all games I really enjoyed. I also just bought the Fallout Collection, which is awesome. So I don't really understand where the hate is coming from. If you want turn-based stuff, its not like theres much a lack of that. And if you think modern RPGs suck, why is the Pip Boy your pic? How could you hate modern RPGs, and still look forward to Fallout 3?tktomo01

Make sure not to miss Planescape: Torment. Possibly the greatest RPG ever made.

Considering the popularity of Oblivion, Mass Effect and Fallout 3, this thread should be entertaining.

TenP

Fallout 3 is guilty of dumbing down the Fallout licence.

Mass Effect is hardly the greatest Bioware RPG ever made. I rank it in their bottom 2. Still it's a good game, but Bioware are usually better.

Oblivion is the devil.

Right on Brother.

I miss the days of Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Fallout 2 and even Morrowind.

Deux Ex, Planescape: Torment, Divine Divinity, KotOR, and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (fully patched) where also great RPG's.

The Witcher is good though, so is The Darkness.

It doesn't stay true to it's roots.
