@jsbetterley @Vincent1333 @ShimmeringSword @Gandaleon I would ask you, in return, why can't you see that your country has a particular problem with violence, murder, and, more specifically, gun-related murders ? In a country where everyone can buy a gun, it's easy for a troubled individual to go into a public space and kill by the dozen. These shootings don't happen nearly as often in countries with gun control.
You have to face the fact that, even if you own a gun, it's not gonna save you from one of those shootings should it happen to you. Although if guns are illegal, most of these individuals won't even have one, and, yes, they might kill a handful of people with another weapon: 4 or 5, but not 30.
Another problem is that you fail to make the difference between the 19th and the 21st century. A gun, when the Constitution was signed, killed a single person at best and had a very limited range, not to mention lousy accuracy. The freedom to a military grade gun is pretty much like the freedom to C4 explosives, yet I don't see anyone bitching about not being able to buy it at the local store.
Your country pretty much has two options: do something about the guns, or do nothing and continue to face mass shootings every year. Most people can be trusted with guns, but it's too easy for the wrong person to get one too. And that's the problem.
@fumaleiar Could-be psyco and sociopaths will fall over the edge with or without the help of violent media. They're fucked up to begin with, and they have ALWAYS been around. Mass murderers and serial killers existed before video games.
Ignorant consumers have little choice. Every other consumer has a wide variety of choice, going from a wide range of brilliant, innovative, non-violent games to brilliant, innovative violent games, and everything in-between including dumb, bland, violent games. Some of the best games of all times are indeed violent, but stand out with their story elements, the lore and the world and the gameplay. Games like Baldur's Gate, Deus Ex, Half-life, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout. All of those game series have always been and remain among the top games. That said, gratuitously violent games have little impact on normal, sane people. The ridiculous amount of violence in video games I've been exposed to as growing up hasn't made me into a violent individual. You know why ? I make the difference between video games and the real world.
@Valtero @SuperDutchy Yeah, if someone wants to believe in crazy shit let him do it...but leave it the **** out of politics and education. I hope for you guys that things shift soon.
I think it's about time they realize the problem isn't video games, it's them. There's more violence in the United-States than in any other developed country. Even if you take the guns out of the equation the US still come out on top for the violence. There's something, somewhere that's fucked up in your system and you should be focusing on THAT.
