@p_fassina 100% disagree, I was initially concerned that gamespot reviewers would overlook the server issues to give EA/MAXIS benefit of the doubt, but kevin clearly highlights how integrated this game is with being online...
He said it perfectly.... "it didn't have to be this way". I like the idea of the social side but it really should of been a multiplayer option. There is this relentless pursuit of making all games social these days, and defining single player as some what anti-social and that's just not true at all...
I credit gamespot for not overlooking these issues.... they didn't really have a choice either since its a fundamental issue with how the game was made.
@frylock616 @wexorian @seriousturtle ... and that explains ONLIVE entirely .... it was doomed to fail from the start, I didn't believe an ounce of their marketing bullshit, feel sorry for the poor souls that did.
@adam270391 Your right, but I honestly believe in some cases this is done intentionally. Am I saying EA wanted this to happen?, no, what I'm saying is they probably knew that there would be high loads but didn't want to pay for 'burstable resources'. In their world gamers would all shut up and forget after a day or so of teething problems. However with retailers like Amazon essentially giving EA a huge **** off, this may of been a critical mistake on EA's part....... the reviews on Amazon for this game are shocking at 1000+
I sympathise with gamers who purchased Simcity, but I am soo glad this happened to EA and I hope it remains exposed to highlight their sheer incompetence.
1. Played the beta, quite enjoyed it 2. Heard about some 'always-on' DRM, but EA assured me it would all be fine 3. Launch day approaches, I grab my wallet 4. I end up reading about the activation issues, my wallet goes back into my pocket 5. EA can go **** themselves
