This whole drama is sad and does not represent the gaming community. As a gamer, this entire charade does not represent me and I have not bought ME3 because of both Bioware's (previous) actions and its fanbase's reaction. Gamers are renowned for their better consumerism and usually know how to deal with unsatisfying titles.
Tis true I'm afraid. However, I'll still remain with Sony for now, as Nintendo's platform and exclusives aren't particularly to my taste. Sony was always great at providing a roundabout console, although that showed to be more difficult with the PS3, we can never forget the success it was on the PS2. Xbox targets Western demographics and shooters, while Nintendo always try a family oriented approach, IMO.
@Lockedge - It's a bad word all the same, but it's never been exclusive to females fighters. The fighting community have always been using the word "rape" in their vocabulary since forever. Why should a female fighter take offense in that, when males also get raped by other males in fighting games? Also I think we should we really clarify to people that we're talking about winning matches here, not actual rape.
Good on the editor for trying to be objective and balanced on the piece. It's true that the fighting community isn't the most welcoming to females, but a lot of that stems from this quote you provided: "There's no welcoming committee… If you want to come in and play, then you come in and play." As opposed to a shield of sausages. As a note: girls not being able to play competitively in fighting games is hardly out of sexism, you either play good, or you don't, same goes for men.
@taddia Heh, fair enough. Don't worry, I'm no bigot; I just take issue with people complaining about the gaming industry being a primitive and sexist, sad, male hub where minorities are constantly prejudiced against. When infact, companies just don't give a **** about politics and religion, plus money drain.
@taddia "Problematic as the apparent origins for her transgender status are, I'm glad that Poison exists. In general, I want more transgender characters in games."... that's totally not wanting more LGBT appearance in gaming industry. I also still can't see how Capcom mocks their own character, Carolyn's analogy revolves around the company, i.e, the creators, "questioning her identity" by saying "she may look like a finely curved woman, but looks can be deceiving" on an official site. As for the "being a transgender and being 100% hasn't to be two mutually exclusive concpets." I apologize, but that doesn't really come across. :?
What you're doing is having a sense of entitlement, which hurts companies and let them submit to the hivemind. It erodes creative space and leads to monetizing policies. I still love your reviews and critics, Carolyn, but your rampant complaints about the "sexist-heteronative gaming industry" is tiring.
LOL, Carolyn, you are as laughable as ever. those rights down a company's resources and time. "Why isn't there a gay character!", "add the ability and dialogue to sexually converse with people of the same gender in a variable manner!", and it goes on and on. This is speaking about companies apathetic to LGBT issues, and not those that actively offend LGBT people. If you don't like how a game turns out, do a better one or leave it be. Lack of LGBT's rights is offensive, for sure, but lack of LGBT people themselves, is not.
