@tempertress Jess, great video. I love stealh games, especially Thief 1/2. These games are pure sneaking simulators (this is a right term I believe), but most of all, these games are though. Yes, you can fight there, you can kill by the sword, but it's very dangerous - Garrett isn't a great fencer and he can also alarm more enemies when fighting. It's much easier (but still though) to stay in the shadows and pass behind guard's back. This is definitely not appealing for mass audience. Nowadays people want gunfights, explosions, wild chases, hack'n'slash, cinematic experience etc. Mass gamer will choose easiest and more spectacular way. 'Sneaking is so boooooriiiiing' they say. This is why pure stealth genre is almost extinct. For me stealth game should _force_ player to hide in the shadows, fight should be really though and used only as a last resort. I can barely accept a direction, in which Splinter Cell is going - because sneaking is much less important than before. Yes, player has more freedom, but on the other hand it's a break with tradition, disrespect for heritage of the series. Maybe my point of view is very radical, but I can't help. I'm an old-school gamer, and I can't watch like so many great franchises are turned into shooters or pure action games. I love Amnesia where player is armless and so fragile, that he can only escape or hide. Amazing concept and great execution. This is why games like Amnesia are niche, and it probably stay that way. Sad, but I'm sure that genre will not die, because there are still people who love such games. Anyway great video.
I would love to see your next show about classic cRPGs vs. modern hybrids/action-RPGs. It's similar situation - big budget games are action based, but there are still new niche titles like Inquisitor, Age of Decadence, Legend of Grimrock, Dead State or Wasteland 2.
@_yuriy_ Have you ever been to Gamescom? Area is enormous, just gigantic, amazingly huge. There's enough place for everything and everyone. Visitors can play video games, but queues are long. :/
You're welcome. Almost every book was translated by fans. The last novel is being translated - more than half at the moment. These translations are very good, and I strongly recommend it to every fan of fantasy literature. Sapkowski's works about Geralt are cult claassic in Poland, Russia and Czech Republic.
Correct order:
1. The Last Wish (officialy published)
2. The Sword of Destiny (fan translation)
3. Blood of Elves (officialy published)
4. Times of Contempt (fan translation)
5. Baptism of Fire (fan translation)
6. The Tower of the Swallow (fan translation)
7. The Lady of the Lake (fan translation in progress)
As you see English publisher skipped second book just like that. :/
First two books are collections of short stories, which were printed in Fantastyka (Polish fantasy and sci-fi magazine) in the years 1986-1990 - these anthologies are very important prologue for the next 5 novels
@JXF2006 It is. :) But GamescoM is much bigger than video games. If you have enough of consoles and computers, you can always relax just around the corner.
