What a stupid article and really lengthy as well. He tries to compare the Wii to an easy-to-approach professor and the 360/PS3 to a professor that enthrones himself (this is talking about college professors). This comparison makes no sense.

Casual games tend to have weak/no stories, very easy difficulties, and gimmicky style play. Most real gamers (hardcore gamers) DO NOT LIKE THESE GAMES. We like to be challenged and engrossed in the story. We can conquer "complicated" controls because in the end they allow us to accomplish what we want with great precision. This is why people are anti-casual (anti-Wii).

The Wii creates a market for gimmicky games, potentially detracting from the hardcore (read: REAL) game market that most of us have grown up with and enjoy. It also leads to the 'dumbing' down of games (see Oblivion and Bioshock) which, with our style of play, creates a less enjoyable game.

If only most gamers knew the greatness of System Shock 2 and weren't stuck with Bioshock...

Silenthps

fail.

You say Wii is dumbing down gaming yet it was the 360/PS3 which dumbed down Oblivion and Bioshock.

If you haven't noticed by the other topic, Wii has yet to dumb down a game.

I agree with you completely. Nintendo isn't to blame, it's the industry itself. There has been a large paradigm shift and developers are now focusing on making games more accessible so they can sell more copies. This may be good for them as they make more money, but we, as gamers, still have a legitimate complaint. But I do believe that the Wii also had a large role in creating the shift towards "casualizing" games. I think I'm just going to stick with PC from now on since it seems to deliver exactly what I want.

[QUOTE="DivergeUnify"]What the **** is the point of this thread? Of course Resistance looks betterWilly105

Which one is the Resistance ones?

Its like this

ones with the ign logo are resistance

THANK YOU. That's all I wanted.

The ones with the GameSpot logo are Resistance. Nothing like comparing non-native resolution blurry screenshots of games. This can be done with any next-gen game as long as you make the screenshots small enough. What a stupid post.

I respect your opinion, but it is rubbish.

Without the nostalgia factor I find it really hard to get into old games. Try playing an NES/SNES/Old PC game that you didn't play a lot when you were younger or when it was just released. Maybe it's just me but I definitely can't get into them. Games like Deus Ex, on the other hand, are still amazing to this day but I did play it at release.

[QUOTE="hopesfall2own"]Off topic: How was bioshock "dumbed" down? crunchUK

it was multiplat

aaanyway why can't casuals andharcores COEXIST?

Are you serious? The game didn't even have an inventory system and the combat and game in general was far too easy. System Shock 2 had a whole research system and many other features that were taken out when Bioshock was made. Most likely because it was "consolized" but also to be a much more approachable game for casuals.

Take a look at this faq: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/185706/27508

The game had 5 abilities: hack, repair, modify, maintain, and research. All of these were upgradable and useful in many ways. You could repair weapons that broke, upgrade them, hack stuff, etc. Barely any of this made it to Bioshock.

The game had stats: Strength, Endurance, Psi, Agility, and Cyber. Each one provided different benefits and provided a nice level of customization.

The game had several TIERS of Psi (magic) abilities. It wasn't just simple "you're at this point in the game here's this new ability". Each tier you had to make a choice of which ability you wanted and once again added greatly to the depth of the game.

Need more explanation?

Also, if you're still reading, I believe that casuals and non-casuals can coexist just fine and always have. The problem I have is the recent phenomenon of "casualizing" popular video game franchises that deserve proper sequels. I've never seen it happen before until just this generation. I have nothing against the Wii; the market is there so the supply will be there.

Do you use Wii Fit faithfully everyday?

- 22% - I record my progress faithfully everyday
- 6% - Maybe once every two or three days
- 6% - Once a week
- 64% - Stopped using after purchase

More than half the people who bought Wii Fit in Japan stopped using it after purchase. In the US I bet the number is a lot higher. The numbers for the Wii itself are probably pretty similar...

The 3DO wasn't *that* bad, at least it had a few decent games, such as Return Fire, Gex and Star Control 2. But when the system failed, most of these were ported over and soon forgotten.

That didn't made the system any less awful. And none of it's games ever warranted it's astromical price tag.

If we go by such low standards then no system is awful then outside of the CD-I and Virtual Boy. Because you can apply the same excuse to any other system.

Hey, that's not fair! Virtual Boy had Wario Land :P.

I still have my Virtual Boy. Wario and Mario were great when you didn't have a headache and eye strain from playing too long

Normally anticipated games = 8.0+. Only 2-3 of those games have even a chance at that. Next.

clone01

do you play games or scores? i loved army of 2 and it was a 6.5. i enjoyed dark sector, too. look, if you hate Nintendo so much, why don't you just not buy their products, and quit creating trolling threads.

You realize how easy and fun it is? This is what System Wars is all about and I haven't really contributed much but I've been around long enough to know how to have some fun. Army of Two was a piece of junk and I beat Dark Sector as well. The thing is, I wouldn't PAY for either of those games. If you don't buy a game (and instead rent it and beat it) then it isn't a good game and it isn't worth looking forward to. Nintendo needs some quality games that are worth buying and will keep you occupied for more than 30 minutes.

IYO

De Blob is the only one that is really questionable IMO. And Tenchu never scored well?really?

TAKE_IT_BACK

Ahh nothing like using a 10 year old game to try to prove something.
