Another post has made me wonder how many people that post here are in the military. I can't imagine I'm the only one.

You might get flamed, just throwin it out there.. there are some people on these boards that don't particularly care for the U.S army. I have all the respect in the world for you guys though. HOO HAH!

Hey, I can take it. It is an open forum after all. Thanks for the kind words though. :)

[QUOTE="Vundi"] Now you're just being argumentative. It's one thing to have your opinions and stand by them, I can respect that, but now you're just saying things to get a rise. Vandalvideo
This is a forum for the discussion of a wide variety of stances on important topics of the day. I am presenting a viewpoint which is entirely logical. It has nothing to do with trying to get a rise. I'm merely looking for a well-thought out counter argument to what I'm saying. My claim is that I see no reason why I should necessarily support the troops, since I have no vested interest in the troops given the ability to survive even if another country were to take over and my low standards of living. If you want to combat the merits of that argument, then feel free.

It's the "not having a vested interest" part that doesn't sit well with me. That ability to survive would be in serious question should the scenario you presented in an earlier post ever come to pass. Just seems like you're taking the many and varied roles of our military for granted.

Spoken like someone who has never actually had to live on bread and water.

That is a dreadful assumption to make. Prove that I never lived on bread and water. PS: I rather like bread and water.

Oh boy. Definitely don't click back to the page where he described the military as people who are "loafing on his taxes."

Yeah, I saw that. I went to Basic Training at Ft. Knox, KY in the summer. Every single day from 4:30am to 9:30 pm for almost three months and it's funny...I don't remember getting to loaf around at all. Not to mention the next 6 months I spent at Ft. Gordon, GA for AIT. Loafing wasn't part of the training.

[QUOTE="Vundi"] Imagine living in a country where we weren't here. I imagine the rest of the world would love to have their way with your everyday lifestyle. Todays military is an ALL VOLUNTEER service and not a single one of us in any branch would hesitate to answer the call to help portect and ensure the freedoms you enjoy every day. Not only that but muslim extremists don't really care if they kill other muslims. And the fact that you would be (pretending to be) an American Muslim would play a huge roll in how they'd look at you. I'm not saying you have to feel any certain way though. You have every right to your own opinions but try living under a dictator and expressing thise same opinions. That's a privilage earned for you by scores of Soldiers that died to see to it. I think The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier says it the best though: "Freedom is a light for which many men have died in darkness." By the way, we're taxpayers too. No one escapes that.Vandalvideo
I'm sure a dictator would love to have someone who is so docile and would work for bread and water and a mattress. The Kremlin would love me. :)

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]I've never really understood the rational for "supporting troops". I mean, why should I support people who are loafing on my taxes and being provided free board and room out of their own volition? It isn't like I personally have any vested interests in how the war is conducted or the state of our troops. I don't really drive a car very much nor am I all that afraid of extremists since I have the acuity to pretend I'm Muslim quite passingly if they were to hypothetically invade in some make believe scenario. Vandalvideo
For one thing without a strong military......autonomy is not guaranteed. Someone, somewhere will decide to take over parts of, it not all of, the country. Having a strong military is not dependent on fighting wars.

As long as I have my daily alottment of bread and water I don't really care.

Spoken like someone who has never actually had to live on bread and water.

As an American Soldier in the US Army and an veteran of Iraqi Freedom I want to thank everyone who supports the troops over there regardless of your personal feelings on the war itself.

Personally, I don't think we need to be over there much longer than we already have been. Soldiers do what they're told though...the good ones at least.

Chun Li would win. All she would have to do is get her legs around Wonder Woman's head, squeeze, and then Wonder Woman's head would get crushed.

DJ-Lafleur
Seriously? Wonder Woman is pretty much a famale version of Superman now. Chun Li wouldn't stand a chance. Not even a contest.

The games are fun and they are entirely a breed of their own, why fix what isn't broken? I could list 100 FPS games that are so similar to each other that are vaguely separable and that is mostly by graphics alone, how many games are like Pokemon? Not many. So who cares if the games are samey, there's nothing else like the pokemon games on the market (That is actually good) you can spout "Old, been there done that, no innovation" but does that stop the games from being fun? Nope.Im_single
They don't have to "fix unbroken games" to overhaul the series. They can continue to make all the gameboy pokemon games they want. I just think a lot of people who have played those games to death but might still be fans of the franchise are looking for something fresh and exciting to bring them back in. I'm a huge fan of the franchise but have grown tired of the same old storyline of a young trainer who starts with a pokemon from Professor "Tree" and goes from place to place and takes on Team so and so who can't believe a little kid has ruined their plans of domination by exploiting the newest legendary pokemon, becomes league champion and has to trade with 2 or 3 different version of the same game to complete the pokedex. I'd just like a new addition to the existing catalogue of games that caters to the pokemon vets who want something more fleshed out and stand alone. It's time. There's no reason they couldn't do something like that in ADDITION to the more traditional Pokemon games.
