Did you really feel *that* good about yourself and really feel *that* much accomplishment beating a game on NES like Castlevania or Battletoads? I mean, don't get me wrong, my friends and I would stay up all night taking turns trying to get past frustrating parts of certain 8/16 bit games.... but I can't say i look back on these experiences and feel *that* much pride

I felt great about beating the old games. I would go to school and only a select few knew about the games ending. There was a feeling of pride being the 1st to do it, I felt great when i beat demon souls I thought this is how a game should be. However I get that I am a old school gamer and the new guys might not get it. They are used to easier games that you finish in one day then move on.
That's cool. I feel you on that. I think the main issue isn't necessarily that *every* game should be like DS, or that games have developed standard features (regen, checkpoints, etc) that in turn make games easier, because from the perspective of someone who has played games for a while one can see how these changes naturally occurred. The main issue seems to lie with younger-folk who simply cannot cope or have zero tolerance to adversity/frustration in games because they came in at a time when these easier features were considered more an inherent trait to games, and less a potentially positive, different alternative. I loved metroid, but sometimes I had to throw in some Joe and Mack to even out the frustration. As less and less games go the way of DS in difficulty, I can understand why this might be frustrating for more "seasoned" folk, haha.Did you really feel *that* good about yourself and really feel *that* much accomplishment beating a game on NES like Castlevania or Battletoads? I grew up in the 8 bit era and I can see why games have naturally progressed in the manner they have. Time passes, lives develop. Crazy as it sounded in '90, but older people listen to rap now. Same with video games. In my perspective, video games have shifted to more healthfully and positively align with the lives of developing users. Now with that said, am I happy a game like DS can still be made, enjoyed, and financially successful in today's age? Absolutely.Wow so much crying just because the game dared to actually be difficult to beat. I grew up in the 16 bit era so I am happy some dev got balls and made a game I would actually have to die on over and over till i got it perfect. Gamers today are used to save points and starting back at the same spot and girly difficulty that slowly ramps up if at all.

I agree with you to a certain extent TC. However, my agreement with your complaints comes less from these characteristics as being "detriments" to the game itself and more with the fact that at this point in my life I have a full-time job, a wife, responsibilities, etc. Alone free time is SO VALUABLE! I simply cannot justify playing a game like this, and exerting this much energy trying to progress through a game so slowly--especially as there are a ton more other games I'd like to get to eventually also.
At first the challenge was engaging, very refreshing. After a while, I found it harder and harder to justify spending 45 minutes on something only to have all that work flushed down the toilet because some stupid invisible archer came out of god knows where and killed me. If I were younger, I would love this game--I'd consider it a personal challenge, like reading 'War and Peace' or running a 5K.... now....eh, not so much...
Looking to buy a city building game, read CitiesXL and Sim City 4 reviews, but....
I'm interested as to what you guys would recommend between the two.
I just bought a new gaming desktop, it's great. When it comes to DirectX 11 (got a 5770, DirectX 11 compatible) and the latest software downloads, upkeep, etc., is there anything I should additionally seek out to download? In other words, outside of the regular software updates that normally are prompted for me to download, is there any sort of gaming specific downloads or websites I should frequent to make sure my pc for gaming purposes runs top notch? Will this DirectX 11 stuff just activate itself with whatever game I buy that supports it? How do I take advantage of mods for different games? I realize these questions are probably very simple, but I'm having a hard time getting direct answers on my own.
Also, have Crysis GOTY collection and SC2 downloaded, any suggestions for my next round of purposes? I'm simply overwhelmed by the number of quality titles, and I love all genres. Thanks!
