I realize you're an alt-account troll, but let's clarify that PS1 had nowhere near the power of the N64.

I'm so tired of hearing that. The chips in N64 were better but Nintendo totally killed it with the cartridge format. There was no room for textures in the games. Because of CDs Playstation games looked much better than N64 ones.

PSX excelled at FMV and pre-rendered backdrops.

FF games obviously impressed. Fear Effect was another game that looked awesome. RE games. 2D MK games seemed to play better.

Real-time 3D environments the N64 annihilated the PSX. Perfect Dark put anything on PSX to shame. It wasn't even close.

...AND if you remember the f*cking awful loading times on the PSX compared to N64 you might recall how nice it was to have near instant loading times on the N64.

I owned both and had tons of PSX games. Piles of them. It was never a discussion whether N64 was more powerful.

I remember the N64 well and there were no textures! Just bland, blurry, empty polygons everywhere. It sucked.

And for those thinking there isn't much of a difference between Xbox Next and PS4 (Provided the rumored specs are right. Hopefully they're not and those that like the Xbox brand can someday look back at these rumors and laugh), think again. This isn't like Xbox 360 vs PS3 where PS3 is said to be a little more powerful but that its power is hard to get at. If you think there's a 50% difference between graphics on those consoles then you're smoking the good stuff. If there's really any gap at all it's neglible. But if Durango specs are true there will be a 50% difference between the new consoles and 50% is a big deal. Even a casual gamer should be able to notice a difference like that. I, for one, don't think the GDDR5 RAM vs GDDR3 RAM thing is an enormous deal. In fact, I think Sony might be wasting a good deal of money going with so much GDDR5. It's the GPU in Durango that really kills it. That thing needs a boost. I gotta imagine that the guys at Epic Games are pleading with MS to change it.

no, its all about the games

And Sony owns a kzillion games studios to MS's... what... 2 or 3 maybe? If MS really do choose to launch with hardware as weak as what they are rumored to be doing I think it's a mistake. Maybe they can win with weak hardware and low pricing, beats me. But they'll probably lose me. I can deal with a little bit weaker, like maybe a 10%-15% advantage to the competing console. But a 50% performance gap is just too much.

[QUOTE="CwlHeddwyn"]If the rumours are true and the Nextbox is weaker than PS4 will this technological inferiority spell disaster for the Nextbox? will most gamers flock to the PS4 because it's more powerful? Or will few people care?sSubZerOo

If the best console is decided on a slight hardware advantage, gaming deserves to die..  Any one who makes graphics their first priority, you are the cancer of the industry.

It's not a "slight" difference. The rumored specs for Durango right now give it 50% less graphics processing power than PS4. That is massive. I've been an Xbox fan for more than 10 years, have never owned PS2 or PS3, and that gap has even me thinking about switching.

That the GPU turns out to be the same one as rumored. If that happens I'll be choosing PS4... which will make me die inside a little bit. I haven't owned a Sony console since the first Playstation. Last two have been Xbox and Xbox 360. Would love to choose Xbox again but if there is really a 50% graphics processing difference then they'll leave me with no choice: I'll have to switch. I'm a fanboy and all but not enough so to accept a 50% difference in performance. I'd have to be a zombie to do that.

PS4's GPU sounds fine to me. No, it isn't as good as top of the line desktop GPUs but considering the outrageous cost of those that was never really possible. It is comparable to highend laptop GPUs though and that's what it's based on after all. To me the real question is is 1.2 tflops enough for Durango? My answer is no. That spec disappoints me.

Specs absolutely do matter. And it ain't just about graphics. Power affects gameplay too. Remember Dead Rising on Wii? The gameplay sucked because the Wii lacked the specs to put enough zombies on the screen. As it stands right now PS4 looks to have the best hardware. Durango also looks good with the exception of the GPU. I'm hoping they fix that. If MS truly allows Sony a 50% graphics processing edge that's gonna surprise me. And Wii U just sucks. Sales reflect its suckiness and I don't believe it will do well in the long run either. That Wii did so well with specs like that and a gimmick was a miracle. Miracles don't happen every day.
