How do you know it will be cheaper than the Wii U controller?

ImSwordMan

Because MS will design it as a controller first, not as a quasi portable with streaming capabilities. As I said earlier, you will not be able to stream the entire screen to MS's controller.

Something tells me you don't like sony very much....

el3m2tigre

A thread about innovative videogame controls should not have the word 'Sony' in it.

they will get it right. It will be a capacitive touch screen. A bit smaller, something like 5 inches. And you will not be able to stream the entire game screen onto the controller. It will be used more as a second screen similar to the DS's bottom screen. Also will have uses such as you can aim a rifle and use the controller as the scope and things such as that. Also it will be much cheaper for the controller alone than the Wii U controller so the 720 will support up to 4 controllers(vs 1 for Wii U) and you will actually be able to afford them.

The PS4 will launch with the same controller they've been using since 1996 along with their move crap. They will copy microsoft and release their screen controller a couple of years later so not worth mentioning in this thread.

Will a new xbox really be that much more advanced?

Jagged3dge

I am expecting the next gen Xbox to have a minimum 6 Core CPU(each core substatially more advanced than 360), 6 GB(could be 8GB) of total RAM and a 3,000 ALU DX11 GPU. This will make it substantially more advanced than the Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact this will make it more advanced than even the highest end PCs available today.

of course this only applies to a Xbox 720 that is released in late 2012. If it's released at a later time, then it must be more powerful than that.

considerably more powerful than the HD Twins. How do I *know* this? It's easy, that's because I am knowledgeable about PC hardware.

Let me give you an example so that you understand my logic. Let's take the 7800 GT as an example. This was a top of the line PC GPU back in 2005. Today Nvidia produces GPUs that are many times more powerful. But even their budget GPUs are a lot more powerful and support a lot more features. On top of that, they are also MUCH CHEAPER to manufacture.

That's right, it would be very expensive for Nvidia to manufacture today the 7800 GT. But they did it in 2005, what the heck am I talking about? Well, the problem is it would be a huge waste. It would take too much money to produce a chip that has crappy performance. Today Nvidia can produce a chip with 7800 GT power(NOT THE SAME CHIP but a current chip with the same power) very cheaply. Not only that, it would support other graphics features in the hardware chip that the 7800 chips didn't have.

For example, they could produce a 7800 GT for let's say manufacturing costs of $50 or they could produce a budget card with their current architecture that is 5X more powerful, has tons more features, runs much cooler and for the same $50. Or they could produce a card for $100 that is 10X more powerful. What would be real difficult is to produce a card that is less powerful than a 7800 GT. They would need to go to their cheapest cards with everything stripped out and really they will not even save much in manufacturing costs. Why spend $35 for a stripped down piece of junk card when you can get at least a decent card for $50? $50 is not going to go over budget and maybe they even want a $60 or $70 level card in the Wii U.

I fully understand that Nintendo wants to be profitable from day one. PS4 and Xbox 720 will spend $200 on GPUs, but if Nintendo only spends $50 they will destroy what is in the HD Twins. What I think they will do is try to get the most performance from their budget. They have a budget, it's much smaller than Sony's and MS's but it's not Zero. With their limited budget they will be weaker than the other next gen consoles. But it is absurd to think they won't beat out the 360 and PS3.

To summarize, there is no way in hell that the Wii U is at all less powerful than the HD Twins. It will be considerably more powerful, the first party games will blow the doors off of the PS3 exclusives. This is not a prediction, it's a FACT. Unless you believe Nintendo will on purpose make the Wii U weak even if it doesn't really save them money just for the hell of it, then you understand it can't be. If that was the case and they wanted a weak console, then they would've just brought out that controller with the screen for the regular Wii and saved a lot of trouble and time.

No more speculation necessary, the Wii U is going to be a lot better than the Xbox 360 and PS3.

There are no downgrades, only a huge graphical upgrade including awesome 3D graphics.

If by winning you mean had the worst conference in years and got stomped by Nintendo, then ok. I think MS is going to repeat their win from last year..

It's Nintendo's conference to lose. They are unveiling a new console.

heretrix

The goal of the presentation at E3 is to create excitement for their new product announcements. They were able to do that so effectively that they sold in record numbers and have ruled with an iron fist in sales since last year's E3. Prior to E3 MS wasn't doing so good, after E3 they have been doing terrific. If it was such an awful conference then why did it create so much excitement and why have they had so much success from their E3 announcements?

Nintendo concentrated on the hardcore gamers but the hardcore gamers already hate the Wii. The results were a drop in sales even after announcing mostly hardcore games. As as result they've decided to concentrate more on the hardcore and announce a new console. We'll see how that works out. I don't understand how anyone thinks that is winning.

They unveiled a new console and showed off the kinect to go along with it. Since last year's E3, the 360 has been the top selling system in the US every almost every month only losing a couple to the DS. It's destroyed the PS3 and even handily beaten the Wii.

Kinect was a smash hit selling in record numbers. Everything Xbox has exploded since last year's E3. This year they can keep the momentum going by announcing support for Kinect, maybe some hardcore stuff. Also info on their exclusive lineup for this year will be well received.

This year Nintendo will announce their next gen console. This is what has me the most excited. Depending on what they announce, they could generate a massive amount of excitement for their new system or they may disappoint the hardcore and leave only the diehard Nintendo fans making excuses for them. I hope Nintendo does well and I am very excited about Cafe. I hope it's a huge step up over the HD Twins.

Sony is the wild card. I know they are announcing the NGP and that is exciting. The only way they can go wrong is if they price it too high. We already know the specs will be killer. I hope they have lots of playable games so we can get a good idea of what this new system will be like. The big question mark is going to be Move. Are they actually going to really support it like MS is doing with Kinect or will they just abandon ship?

The one thing Sony can do to steal the show is announce a considerable price drop for the PS3. They can drop it to say $229 and this will give them the added boost in sales they desperately need. It will also create big excitement for them at E3. However, no one is expecting they can do this so this may just be wishful thinking.

I am super excited for E3. I can't wait for tomorrow!

I don't care for remakes in 3D. It's still the same game. 3D is cool for about 15 min. After that you don't notice the 3D, but you do notice that you've played "this" game before. DevilMightCry
Would you say the same thing is true of any remake?

There are a couple of remakes that will be released this year such as OoT and MGS3. I have noticed that many here have criticized that these remakes for not being upgraded enough for your tastes. The graphics are a little better in OoT for example but you can buy the game much cheaper on the virtual console so unless you need a portable version, it's not enough.

Well, there is something you are forgetting. The fact that OoT and MGS3 will be in 3D. And that is the biggest upgrade and actually the point of the 3DS. If you don't own a 3DS and haven't experienced the amazing 3D effect first hand then you can't possibly understand this key feature. Playing OoT with some minor graphical upgrades on the portable screen is not blowing me away but to play it with awesome 3D effects has me super excited. I can't wait!

Why doesn't anyone ever mention this about 3DS games? I know this only affects the graphics and not necessarily gameplay but you guys are criticizing exactly that, the lack of graphical upgrade. What do you guys have against the 3D effect of the 3DS? Isn't it amazing? Or have you not tried it yet?
