@master_49: Sony and MS are both honestly pretty good about all that. I worked at Gamestop some 10 years ago for awhile and even back then Nintendo was a nightmare to work with. We had a Sony and MS rep who would come out and repair the demo units at a moment's notice and handle all the faulty returned systems without a single complaint. Nintendo CHARGED us for the demo units of the Wii and wouldn't accept any returns without us twisting their arm, and even then only with very specific criteria (stuck pixels, scratched screens, cracked hinges, frayed cables, cracked screens, and a bunch of others I forget were all strictly out). Let's not forget that Amazon didn't stock 3DS's for a long time when Nintendo refused to replace the units with faulty packaging that scratched their screens all up.
Yeah I'm a bit salty with them but it's with good reason, at some point they need to stop getting free passes for being Nintendo. They need to stop claiming they're not competing and putting out third rate hardware and making excuses for design failures. It's incredibly anticonsumer and people just take it from them because they're the Big N. It's fine to like their stuff but hold them accountable.
@master_49: I'm sure the cost of flagging consumer confidence is higher. But who am I kidding, there's plenty of people willing to defend literally anything and everything Nintendo does, they'll be fine...
@doctor_mg: I would say it doesn't matter how many people you bring forward not having issues, the consumer opinion of it is going to be a problem considering all the major games sites have put up numerous videos of these issues and all we get from Nintendo is "no no no, that didn't happen."
And you can fit the PSP and 3DS in your pocket WITH a charging cable, you need a purse or something for you Switch and various paraphernalia to play it on the go.
I'm also not entirely sure why you're so vehement in defending the thing. It has issues, you have to be able to acknowledge that, and they're far more wide spread than the other platforms. The Xbox One had maybe 5 or 6 videos of ugly disc noises at launch, the PS4 had six or eight videos of disc drive issues as well. There's masses of videos of the Switch having major issues and they INCLUDE national television broadcasts and vastly popular YouTube channels. It isn't in the same league at all.
@master_49: That's definitely a fair solution for existing owners, or even to just replace the docks with a better one on request. The thing is pretty much just a plastic shell with some jelly bean parts in it.
@doctor_mg: A portable that lasts 2 and a half hours is definitely defective on some level. There was the same complaints leveled at previous consoles that had the same issue, i.e., the Sega GameGear and the Atari Lynx, they were also nailed pretty hard for being too big to be considered truly portable. Guess what happened to them? They failed horribly.
And I'm sure your system will eventually see scratches from the dock, friction is friction. Or you'll be an exception, it's anecdotal either way.
@master_49: It's definitely a massive design flaw. If it was a phone charging dock with a giant plate on the front you had to slide the thing past no one would stand for it, dunno why Nintendo gets yet another free pass for being Nintendo.
@skemaal: Honestly, I've only ever had one device in my entire life with a dead pixel, and it was my 3DS. Three PSP's, several TV's, monitors, my Vita, all of my phones, none have ever had a dead pixel. Maybe I've just been lucky on that front. I took the 3DS back and got a different one.
@doctor_mg: I never did pretend it was just Nintendo.
The screen scratching is definitely a universal issue, and I kinda doubt you would actively jam it in there to damage your own system, friction on the screen is going to scratch it eventually. The weak controller signal is probably exasperated by other wireless devices more than microwaves.
I would also argue that a battery that weak IS a defect at the design level.
@skemaal: Pretty sure they're defects there too. Do they put a wishy washy statement about how they're normal on their website too or do they just try their hardest to dodge responsibility?
@ballashotcaller: I would imagine it also happens when kids put them in at wonky angles. They probably shouldn't have had that big blocky wall on the front of the dock at all and instead had it angled towards the back slightly with the screen uncovered, or even had the dock just be a jumper box you simply plugged a cable into.
