Maybe. Add in a DVD player and up the CPU clock a bit, up the RAM a bit and launch in late 2000 and maybe things would have gotten better. The most important thing is they shouldn't have confirmed "Katana" in mid-1997. That left a bad taste in consumers mouth as they didn't want to buy the Saturn or any Sega platform for fear that it would be replaced quickly. As rough as it may have been, have the Saturn on the market until 1999/2000. Put out Sonic Adventure on it and Shenmue. Try really, really hard to get the Saturn to do better, then debut the DC in 2000. They could have maybe priced it at $249 instead of $199 if DVD drive raised costs too much. Then launch in 2000 with Jet Set, Sea man, Sonic Adventure 2, etc. Honestly though the biggest thing was MS not investing more in Sega. Had they been satisifed making games for Sega consoles we'd still have them around.

Where are you people getting this idea that MS invested in the DC outside of WIn CE? MS did not release one game on the system.

They should have marketed the online capabilities of the system much more dramatically, aswell as creating more exclusives focused on the online aspect.

Maybe then the system would have lasted just a little bit longer, and maybe Microsoft would have had more faith in them, not releasing the OG Xbox, and releasing Halo on the Dreamcast bundled in with a dual analog controller (like how they bundled the 3D controller with Nights into Dreams).

There are a lot of 'what ifs..', but this would have ben the perfect scenario for the Dreamcast, in my opinion. Essentially being the go to system for online console gaming.

MS and the Xbox was a thing before the DC even came out. It was over 80% done by 1999, and was just sitting their waiting with a few tweaks before its 2001 launch. The only thing that MS was involved in with the DC was the Win CE.

The only way they could have done that is if they had a lot of ports on the DC and a few decent budget games for the first years. If they waited till 2001, and then released the games they did in our current time, they would probably not even be around in general, or they would have been brought by someone.
Best RPG on PS2 and in the top 10 of all time.

TheKungFool

for me personally, it was one of the worst RPGs I played on the PS2.

I could easily list 30+ PS2 RPGs I prefer.

Jrpg on the PS2.

No it wasn't what ya on boy? FPS has been the most profitable genre in gaming history, starting around the end of the 6th generation of gaming consoles(or 7th depending on who you talk to) I hope you don't think Goldenye had anything to do with it?Platform_King

You tryin to pick a fight son? cause i'll let you know goldeneye 007 influenced all non-doom style shooters that could aim vertically rather than just side to side. It was also the first FPS to have a zoomable weapon.

Wrong, wrong.

Quake + Team Fortress Quake.

So what you're actually saying is Quake was more influential than Goldeneye. Which is true.

[/QUOT if what you say is true then yeah quake is more influential for FPS's without location based damage, but Golden eye has location based damage and quake doesn't.

But there were games before both hat had it.

Remember when on paper the gamecube was "clearly' more powerful than the Xbox first in raw power* and they screwed that up by making the system designed like trash? Same could happen here, you never know, so i say wait till launch. *Aside from effects and A.I.

Great, we gonna see another great japanese franchise being westernize... It doesnt have to be a real huge open world, it needs better story and better battle system, ffx was linear but it was a great gamej_assassin
open world=/= westernization. The issue is they want to make the game open world to get Skyrim sales without even at least seeing youtube videos of Skyrim

at least they're admitting it, not like Nintendo and their "please understand"silversix_
Sony is not known for admitting things and instead they usually circle around it.
Xbox was more powerful. However I wonder what would of happened if both systems lasted longer.

LittleMac19
I wished they did, the XBox & Gamecube only lasted 4-5 years while this past gen we got a 8 year life span from the 360, 6 for the Wii and 7 for the PS3, crazy. After looking at games like GOWII, Resident Evil IV and Black I'm sure those systems had a couple of years left in them before moving on to newer systems.

Gamecube lasted like 6, Xbox was the first to bail out. To be honest, it was the normal average time frame, and I don't think we would have seen much better from the GC and Xbox.

According to live news (expect it on CNN front page in 5 minutes, I'll post it then.) It had been arranged for Zimmerman to, for his safety, leave his home state and move to avoid any kind of physical, emotional, or associative dangers. I know that there are people who believe he did it on purpose, and some who believe he did it in self-defense, so do you think that he does not deserve this burden that is placed upon him? Changing states?
