Not Crysis... at least not with a single 8800gtx anyway.

Geez, Crysis is not even out yet. No, it wont max out FSX either. The point is that something LOWER than 2560x1600 (which is 4 megapixels by the way) and a fast quad shouldn't have problems - 19x12 (which is almost half the pixels as 2560x1600) should not be an issue, unless you have to push over 60fps for some reason or another.

A quad processor OCed to 3.2GHz drives a 2560x1600 monitor over 30fps on all the new games. It will be fine.

The OS may perform better, but not the 32 bit apps you try to run on it... :D

The 64-bit editions of Windows Vista are available for all editions of Windows Vista except Starter. You can order from Microsoft for a very small shipping fee.

Then your friend's problem may be related to something else other than card compatibility.

No, 64bit is not the optimal gaming platform right now. The issue you "may" run into is one of compatibility. ALL new games will be made specifically for a 32 bit environment. I don't know about Crysis, but I can guarantee you it WILL run in 32 bit. As a matter of fact, XP is a better gaming platform than Vista TODAY, but since you are buying new, Vista is the way to go.

Unless you plan to use applications that are SPECIFICALLY WRITTEN to take advantage of a 64bit OS, I think its pointless, especially for gaming.

YouCAN mix and match brands, and even mix and match memory amounts. The SLI package will conform to the lower memory card.

Please please please do some research before making comments like this one...

http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq

Can I mix and match graphics cards?

In order to provide optimal symmetric scaling, SLI technology requires the NVIDIA GPUs to match. For example, a GeForce 7800 GTX must be paired with another GeForce 7800 GTX. Likewise, a GeForce 6600 GT must be paired with another GeForce 6600 GT. However, using the latest Release 80 or later graphics drivers, NVIDIA GPUs sold by different manufacturers can be used together in an SLI configuration. For example, a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor ABC can be matched with a GeForce 7800 GT from vendor XYZ.

Can I mix and match graphics cards is one of them is overclocked by the manufacturer?

Yes. A GeForce 7800 GTX that is overclocked (for example BFG GeForce 7800 GTX OC) can be mixed with a standard clocked GeForce 7800 GTX.

Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory?

While it is not recommended, NVIDIA does offer this flexibility using Coolbits. When purchasing a second graphics card, you should try to match the memory size so that you are ensured full value and performance from your purchase. For example, if your first card is a GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory, you should purchase a second GeForce 6600 GT with 128MB of memory. However, using Coolbits (value set to 18), you can force both of the cards to use the lower of the two memory sizes and operate together in SLI mode. When dissimilar memory sizes are enabled to work together using Coolbits, the effective memory size for each card becomes the smaller of the two memory sizes.
