My most hated levels/bosses fights in games.

Final level of Super Mario 64

You have to jump onto many moving platformings, and judge delicate flame patterns and gusts of wind, and missing just one jump or falling off a platform(whether it was a flame that sent Mario running off the edge or a gust of wind blowing him off)meant you had to redo alot of work. Then the final battle against Bowser involved throwing him into the bombs 3 times(just once is hard enough)and avoiding all his attacks and Bowser removed areas of the floor which could send you falling to your death. And even if you made it to Bowser,if you died against him you had to do those annoying, long platform segments all over again!

Battle with Vayne on Final Fantasy XII

Vayne is the final boss on FFXII and you have to defeat a few different forms of him,and I can't beat the final form of him without bubble belts and to get bubble belts you have to do alot of sidequests and without a guide you would have no idea how to get them.In FFXII without bubble belts, you cannot level up to 9999 HP(the max it will let you is around 6000 HP)and Vayne can remove 2000 HP each time he attacks and he attacks every few seconds and he also does high powered attacks that remove most of the health of all your characters. And it's a long battle too,and losing to Vayne means you have to redo the battles against his different forms.

Final section before the final boss battle with Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII

I actually don't mind the final battle with Sephiroth because it's unpredictable, even if you level your characters up to 9999 HP and level 99 you can still easily lose because of his Super Nova attack which brings the of all your characters to around 400 HP no matter how highly they're levelled up.But to make things fair Sephiroth's total HP is based on how highly your characters are levelled too.

Anyways the section right before the final battle involves jumping over theseplatforms(where every few steps you take there's a good chance you'll face random battles against these giant creatures carrying swords that continously swipe at your entire party with their swords removing alot of HP from all your party members each swipe).

Then after the platform section, there's a boss battle against a creature you must kill before the count down ends(the battle is quite easy but time consuming),then you have to face the first form of Sephiroth, and he keeps using the lifesteam energy to heal himself and can do an attack which brings a character down to 1HP(and the final battle is still to come afterwards so you'll need to be careful when using mega elixers and even worse after this battle it doesn't give you time to prepare your characters for the final battle with Sephiroth and you start with the same HP you finished this battle with.

The final battle is when Sephiroth is flying and out of range of your melee attacks for large segments of the battle. And each attack he does around 3000 HP damage(and my characters were around level 88 so they weren't under levelled)and the super nova attack he does each round brings all your characters down to 400HP no matter how highly they're levelled, and inflicts annoying status effects which makes some of your characters useless(you have to make sure one of your characters is able to use a mega elixer right after Sephiroth uses super nova).

The final boss battle against Sephiroth can be easy if you do some very time consuming sidequests(such as getting knights of the round or omnislash, but to do either will take between 10 and 15 hours)and doing so will mean you'll almost be guaranteed to win that final boss battle which defeats the purpose of doing the final boss battle. The main reason I hated this section is it's so time consuming and takes along time before you can face Sephiroth in the final boss battle, and if you lose you have to do the section all over again.

Final mission on Warcraft 3

You must hold out the undead for 45 minutes. It sounds simple enough but the undead can build new units instantly and attack in huge swarms that get bigger and bigger each attack. You have to use your healing spells at the right time to heal your injured units during some of the big attacks the undead unleash. On Warcraft 3 if you lose a mission,it allows you to restart the mission with a reduced difficulty level, and I would have to purposely lose the mission the first time I attempted it,and attempt it again with reduced difficulty because the first attempt was always too hard for me.So it meant I had to spend 45 minutes letting the Undead defeat me on purpose so I actually had a chance of winning the mission on my next attempt.

The Bunker on Little Big Planet

LBP was mostly an easy game, but the Bunker is one of the hardest levels i've ever experienced in any game. The timing for maneuvering through the Bunker stage is so delicate and in LBP if your character is killed he has to restart from the last checkpoint,it's not like Sonic or Super Mario where he can absorb multiple hits,if sackboy is hit by an enemy or obsticle,he loses a life,as simple as that. The giant wheel on the Bunker is really annoying because it's very easy to die and it's long. And to make things worse after the wheel is a long section where you have to make platform jumps over electrified orbs and sackboy's jumping speed is much slower than Sonic's or Mario's and you need to time the jumps on this section very well. And there's another section after this too with more delicate timing! And once you're out of lives you have to restart the whole level from the beginning.

2nd last castle on Super Mario world

You have to ride across moving blocks until you reach the end of the castle, but it's a long ride and the blocks move all over the place and it's easy to fall and die,and to make things worse there's other obsticles that you have to dodge while you're riding the blocks. If you die you have to redo it all over again from the start, and once you're out of lives you have to redo 2 previous levels, plus the castle again! And even after you ride the blocks to the exit of the castle, you have to face one of the Koopa's on a see saw type platform, and while he's hurling fireballs at you,3 fireballs pop out of the lava from below you constantly, and the only way you can win is jumping on the Koopa and making him fall into the lava while dodging all the fireballs!

One of the last dungeons on disc 3 on Lost Odyssey

You cannot exit the dungeon once you enter it,and you encounter random monster battles every few steps(against powerful monsters that can do alot of damage to your party no matter how highly they're levelled)and there's no place to restore your MP so you have to be very careful with using healing spells. At this point healing potions are useless except for the elixers which you want to save. And there's some really annoying puzzles and back tracking and you have to examine every room/tiny location closely and this dungeon almost ruined what is a really great game. You're given no clues about these puzzles and parts of the puzzles(such as pressing a switch)are linked to another puzzle in a different room that's far away!

What's your favorite Pizza place?

An unusual topic but hey everyone likes Pizza :P My favorite pizza place is called ''The Pizza Company'' it's a franchise in Thailand but I don't know if it's in other countries. In Thailand they do a 2 pizzas for the price of 1 promotion and their pizza actually tastes better than all the other Pizza places I've been to in Thailand,Australia,U.S,Malaysia.

I've been to the expensive Pizza resturants in the U.S,and I've eaten proper Italian s t y l e pizza but The Pizza Company is still my favorite :P

This is an actual photo of pizza from The Pizza Company

Different gaming cultures in different countries/regions

I think it's quite interesting to see the difference in what types of games are more popular, and the way people play games in different countries.I live in Australia, and the other countries I've been to most recently are Thailand,U.S,Malaysia and have seen to an extent what types of games are easy to buy in those countries, the types of games that are popular and the different way they play games.I'll also talk about gaming in other countries but I'll just mention things that are common knowledge about gaming in those countries.

In Australia many JRPGs are hard to find.Sure Final Fantasy games are easy to find here because they sell well just about anywhere, but it was very hard to find Star Ocean Till the End of Time,Breath of Fire V and most of the JRPGs I own I bought them in Thailand or from international seller on eBay.Chrono Cross,Suikoden III,Parasite Eve,Super Mario RPG(SNES version),Tales of Vesperia,Star Ocean 4 are some games many Australian gamers won't get to play because they are not for PAL region.

The last time I checked the Australian games sales charts, the top 10 selling games were either Wii or NDS games.

Games are expensive in Australia, anything under 50$ is considered budget priced.Expect to pay 60$-120$ for certain games. If you want a game that comes with an accessory or with some limited edition collectors thing expect to pay even more.

In Thailand, they have just about anything you want as long as you have money.I could go to the big shopping mall refered to as MBK and buy the latest games from Japan, the only problem is I need to be able to read Japanese to play them properly :p At MBK I bought Persona 3 before it was officially released outside of Japan,Rurouni Kenshin: Enjou! Kyoto Rinne(a Samurai X game) for PS2,a Cowboy Bebop game for PS2,(neither Rurouni Kenshin: Enjou! Kyoto Rinne or the PS2 Cowboy Bebop game have been reviewed by Gamespot cuz they're in Japanese but at least you have the option of playing them and learning Japanese and playing them properly, and also found Initial D Special Stage(PS2),and Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2 and X-Men vs Street Fighter for very cheap.

In Thailand I can buy 25 NDS games for around 50$ AU and I can choose from a selection of the newest releases, and games that are rare and Japanese NDS games that are rare outside of Japan and just about any NDS game I want.

In Thailand there is high speed online gaming cafes everywhere and many Thai people love to play games at those places,in fact the police often have to come and remove school students from those places during school hours.

In Thailand many people still play games at the video arcades(where as in Australia many video arcades I used to go to went out of business)In Thailand there is video arcade machines in many places at shopping malls. And at video arcades and game stores I've even seen things like multiple Playstation 2's connected together on multiple screens and people can play soccer games against eachother and it looks fun to play that way.

In South Korea professional StarCraft players are looked at as national heroes/celebreties and they televise StarCraft tournaments and have commentary. When I was watching a documentary about the Korean pro StarCraft players I saw many pretty Korean girls go crazy and scream when they saw the good male pro Starcraft players get ready for a match. And there's a big screen that they show Starcraft matches in one of the South Korean cities(I think Seoul)

When I watched the Blizzard pay per view, most of the players who were in the StarCraft,Warcraft 3 and WOW tournaments were Koreans and not surprisingly Koreans won all the tournaments. And quite a few Koreans have died from playing WOW and Starcraft for too long without rest.

A StarCraft tournament in South Korea

I've lived in Malaysia for 2 months, went to many shopping malls and most of the games they sold were PC games.I found a few places that sold console games but alot of placesonly sold PC games.Still Malaysia had many rare Japanese Playstation 2 games at some of the stores I went to.Malaysia has the high speed internet/gaming places and like in Thailand school students are not allowed on the premises during school hours.

In Japan, look at these console sales from February 28,2009

Console Total
NDS 26,042,552

PSP 11,741,347

PS3 2,928,635

Wii 7,879,956

X360 977,956

PS2 22,848,430

I've seen MonsterHunter as one of the top selling games in Japan for quite a while now but in other countries you would never see that happen.King of Fighters 2002 is one of the top selling Japanese games from the period ofFebruary 21-28 for some reason.

Many Japanese games are made to be cute and colorful. But the Japanese can make great horror titles like RE,Silent Hill,Fatal Frame and games with deep stories and many big plot twists and with lots of emotion such as JRPGs and the Metal Gear Solid series and they can do beautiful cinematics such in Final Fantasy VIII and X.

I've heard people in the U.S lined up for hours to buy Halo 2,and many people in America were very excited about Halo 3 but in some other countries not many people care about Halo 3.American game companies make alot more FPS and RTS games than Japanese companies.

I saw on TV that in England they have or had televised Quake 3 or 4 tournaments with commentary and they had teams go against eachother that had their own names and logos.

But finally I'd like to say I found all these differences in different countries on how they play games quite interesting.

Ordered Disgaea 3 and other gaming news for me

See I'm mostly an JRPG gamer, and since this generation hasn't been a great one for JRPGs I've ordered Disgaea 3 from England for around 60$ AU when American and Australian stores want around 80$ AU.I had a think about it before I purchased it because this isn't the most friendly economic climate, and Disgaea is more of a turn based strategy game with JRPG elements, but it will have to do for now and it looks fun.

I would love to play Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia but they are not for PAL Xbox 360.And I've thought why didn't I just buy an NTSC U/C Xbox360 in the first place? well that's because I wouldn't be able to play the Japanese region Xbox 360 titles(some Japanese games I love never officially get released outside of Japan and are only for Japanese region consoles). And if I bought a Japanese Xbox360 that means the western games I play on it would be in Japanese language too and I can't read Japanese.I know there's many popular, multi region Xbox360 titles but not all popular Xbox360 titles are multi region. And I shouldn't be forced to buy multiple consoles from different regions and I don't understand why the Xbox360 isn't region free.

Cross Edge is supposed to be due in the U.S on March 19(translated into English)so I can order it from the U.S if it doesn't come to Australia, and White Knight Chronicles is already out in Japan and available outside of Japan later this year.Demon's Soul is another JRPG in Japan already. So people say the PS3 lacks JRPG's but that's not true,it just lacks JRPG's for people outside of Japan.Don't forget FFXIII is due out in Japan late this year but you need to be able to read Japanese to play it.

Just so people know,I've seen Eternal Sonata for Xbox 360 for 25$ AU but for PS3 it's around 60-80$ AU.I'm reluctant to buy multiplatform games for the Xbox360 because it's only a matter of time before my Xbox360 gets the RROD and it's well out of warranty, and I prefer the PS3 controller and PS3 has free online(for when I play games that are not JRPGs).See many PS3 multiplatform games are around 10$-20$ more expensive than the Xbox360 version in Australia,so if I buy 10 multiplatform for Xbox360 it could be 100$-200$ cheaper than buying them for PS3,but if the RROD happens I won't be able to play those games until I buy another Xbox360 so it's confusing.

All the PS3 games I own are PS3 exclusives, and I think the PS3 has the better exclusives, but for multiplatform games the PS3 and Xbox360 have their pros and cons.

I'm not a FPS fan but Killzone 2's graphics look breath taking,I don't usually care about high powered, realisitc graphics and I prefer Japanese s t y l e artwork and the cinematrography in the FMV of Final Fantasy games, but the graphics on Killzone 2 drew me in when I looked at them,I love futuristic/sci fi environments and a realistic futuristic/sci fi environment would be addictive for me.The yellowish sky effects and lightning effects make you feel like you're on another world.

I couldn't find any screenshots that show how great Killzone 2 looks during actual gameplay so a box cover will have to do for now :P

I've had my eye on Street Fighter 4 and I already own a huge collection of Street Fighter games, from the original Street Fighter arcade game,to all the Street Fighter II games,Street Fighter III Third Strike, all the Street Fighter Alpha games,Street Fighter EX 1,2,3 and Street Fighter the movie(playstation and arcade version despite how terrible they are). The game is still around 80$ for Xbox360 version and around 90$+ for PS3 version and I don't wanna pay that much for a fighting game.

Resident Evil 5 is out soon and the ADs for it on TV look awesome, the eyes of the infected people are blood red and the African environment is a nice change although they still managed to give it that morbid, chilling appearance. In Australia they were only advertising it for Xbox360 though with a limited edition red Xbox360 bundle. In Australia the Xbox360 has alot more advertising than the PS3...

(And if it gets the RROD it will be all red :P )

Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena isn't talked about as much as other games coming out,but COR escape from butcher bay is an excellent game with some of the best gameplay and atmosphere I've experienced in a FPS(I gave COR EFBB a 10/10 and I don't really like FPS that much)and the movies with Riddick(Pitch Black,Chronicles of Riddick) are great too.I've read this game will be some sort of remake of COR EFBB with extra content and updated graphics because they couldn't make COR EFBB backwards compatible with the Xbox360,but it doesn't matter cuz the game is going to be multi platform, but it's another game I'm really looking forward to.

Anyways that's all I'll say for now.

Can you beat any of the NES Super Mario Bros games starting with only 3 lives?

Before the save feature was introduced, the Nintendo Entertainment System made you try to beat the Super Mario Bros games(Super Mario Bros 1,2,3)starting with only 3 lives, and you can try to earn more lives throughout the game. This was during an era when gaming was much harder and I've noticed I didn't beat many c l a s s i c games compared with newer games.People have said they have beaten the NES version of Super Mario Bros and I've seen on Youtube people doing so.My question is do you think you're able to/or have you beaten any of the NES version of the Super Mario Bros games?

Just so everyone knows,I couldn't beat any of the NES version of the Super Mario Bros games but I've beaten the GBC version played on an emulator so I could save my progress at any time.I guess that's why I've always prefered Sonic the Hedgehog because I could beat some of the c l a s s i c Sonic games even though they didn't have a save game feature.

I wish people would stop blaming sharks for the stupidity and ignorance of man

In Sydney there has been many shark attacks lately, and the opposition political party is complaining the current government should reduce shark numbers, but it's clearly just them playing politics. Also many people are wanting shark numbers to be reduced, and shark hunters are going around killing sharks! I am outraged, because sharks have been around for millions of years, longer than mankind has been on earth. Also sharks are a wild animal and they eat meat, they don't kill humans for enjoyment, they kill humans because they think humans are food.Humans are the ones who kill other people/animals for enjoyment, perhaps mankind should have their numbers be reduced? Also when you go in ocean/rivers you are in the sharks territory,if you don't want to be attacked by a shark, don't go in the ocean/river.

On average every year 4 humans are killed by sharks, but humans kill 400 million sharks!!

My favorite female video game characters

Yuna

She is pretty, shy, gentle and she would sacrifise herself to save the lives of everybody else.

Rikku

She's cute and I like how she calls Yuna ''Yunie'' and she brightens up the mood when she's around.

Tifa Lockhart

I've always liked her from Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Advent Children. Her attractive appearance and caring personality makes it nice having her around.

Samus Aran

I don't like Metroid that much but she has great abilities and even though it's largely due to the advanced suit she wears, she has to be brave taking on all those deadly aliens all by herself.

Alicia Melchiott

She's a great scout and long ranged shooter. She likes to help other people and had dreams of just being a baker until the war broke out.She is cute too.

Ling Shenhua

She's a cute teenage girl who's grown up surrounded by only nature in a little village in the mountains of China and hasn't seen much modern technology nor has she even heard of the country Japan! She is very polite and speaks very gently. She is connected with a man named Ryo through their dreams.

Rinoa Heartily

She's pretty and has a very extraverted personality but takes a liking to a shy,anti-social guy named Squall, and she manages to get him to start expressing his feelings more openly because he enjoys being with her.

Some Japanese PS3 games that most non Japanese PS3 owners won't ever play.

Some of them received good reviews by people who've played them.

Happy/Sad endings.

Because games with a deep story can be so emotional,I was thinking about the endings of many games with a deep story and whether they have a happy/sad/mixture of happy and sad in there ending.

This blog will contain SPOILERS for FFIV,FFVII,FFVIII,FFX,FFX-2,
Star Ocean Till The End Of time,Lost Odyssey

Final Fantasy IV-I think it has a happy ending.Cecil and Rosa get married and become King and Queen and can help restore pride to the Kingdom of Baron.Zeromous is defeated,Rydia survives, the Lunarians enter rest and some party members die earlier on in the game but you don't get too attached to them.

Final Fantasy VII-I think it has a mixture of happiness and saddness in it's ending.Aeris dies 1/2 way through the game so you don't know if she and Cloud could have ever been a couple. They destroy Sephiroth and stop Shinra and restore the land to beauty and lush with nature.

Final Fantasy VIII-Happy ending.Squall and Riona cuddle eachother,Squall is seen smiling for the first time because he's happy to be with Riona,Ultimecia/Edea and their powerful nation are defeated.

Final Fantasy X-Sad ending.Yu Yevon is defeated so there is no more Sin,and the people of Spira are made aware of the corruption of their former politicians so they know machina is not evil and doesn't cause Sin to be reborn. However after they defeat Yu Yevon,Tidus disappears and returns to dream Zanarkand and Yuna has to move on and help rebuild Spira without Tidus! Luckily Yuna got to tell Tidus she loved him before he left and Tidus tried to cuddle Yuna but because he was fading away his arms went through her.

Final Fantasy X-2 Can have a happy or sad ending.Yuna can be reunited with Tidus because she does enough good deeds for the fayth to make Tidus become real so she can be with him.Or Yuna can discover she can't ever be with Tidus and decides she can finally say goodbye to his image and move on.

Star Ocean Till the End of Time-Happy ending. The characters find out they are computer generated artificial intelligence and not even real people, and the race of aliens called ''Executioners'' they are at war with are anti-virus programs sent to delete them. The only way to rid the executioners is to delete the universe, but after the universe is deleted the characters have developed consciousness and cannot be deleted.

Lost Odyssey-Happy with some sad.The immortals defeat Gongora but Seth gets pulled back to the world which she came from so Sed has to deal with losing his mother again.Jansen and Ming get married,Kaim and Sarah try to resurrect the romance they once had before they lost their memories.
