4 months of a good mmo = 100s of hours of fun: 60 dollars
5 hour campaign and tacked on generic multiplayer of brand new console game: 60 dollars

I get more hours of fun from the mmo, and its costs the same amount of money.soiheardyoulike

this is wrong, because you don't factor in that you pay for the game brand new to begin with and then that usually comes with 30 days free. After that, then you pay the $15 a month that you are referring to. So if you pay for the game and then an additional 3 months because the 1st is free, then you are looking at $95 - $105 depending if the game was $50 or $60. Plus the thought that people don't put hundreds of hours into console games is absurd. Hate it or love it, millions of people play COD for 100s of hours with no fee. Same could be said for Halo. Your argument also excludes sports games, which has absurdly high replay value.

Nah, I think they will be ok. The are adding HD and (hopefully) real 3rd party support this time around, so that will draw in a lot of people who otherwise may have had some reservations about it.

As long as it is not overpriced, I don't think it matters what the competition offers in regards to Ninty.

Again, I love how it is ok to bash other developers for rehasing games, but when it comes to Nintendo (who is obviously the worst offender if you are not a fanboy), the rules are different.

Give me a break. If you look at nintendo, they have a history of milking things. Look at all of the DS versions that came out. All of the gameboys. Cheap cash grab attempt with the virtual boy. Hell even the 3ds will probably have 3 versions by the time it is all said and done. But you all want to ignore the fact they do the same thing with their games as they do with their hardware? Please.

Making a game for a genre is different from rehashing the same general game idea. Mortal kombat and Street fighter are obivously very different games, even though they are in the same genre.

But I guess it is much easier and apparently more fun to bash Activision and Co. right?

This is a rather old arguement to bring up again, is Nintendo also kiddy??VideoGameGuy
Funny, because Nintendo's franchises are old too. Older than a lot of people in these forums. I see why sheep are called sheep. Nintendo can put out anything, label it Zelda/Mario/Metroid and the flock comes a running..

[QUOTE="Zeifer21x"]Cause these franchises won't last forever. Nintendo is taking its success so far for granted like the world takes natural resources for granted. That and the fact that they allow so much shovelware on their system alongside their great games is just embarrassing, but that is a different story. No one thinks the fun time will end, but it is coming. And without fresh new ips they will be in big trouble.IronBass

So they should stop making a product that sells (a lot)because *someday* it won't sell anymore?

That makes very little sense.

For all we know Mario and co. may be popular for another 20 years. Or 10, or 5, or 100, who knows? Fact is, they won't selling anytime soon.

How does not taking the present for granted and planning for the future make little sense? Mario and Co. may be popular or might not, but why not have a back up plan? I don't understand how that is a bad idea

Also, most people here sticking up for Nintendo bash CoD for rehasing their series and they have been around a lot less time than Nintendo's franchises have been. They are popular and sell like crazy. There is no logical reason for activision to stop doing it either, but they still get bashed. And you really can't say CoD isn't polished or high quality, even if you don't like their games.

But it is always different with Nintendo, right? They can obviously do no wrong!

You haven't answered a more important question, though. Why shoould they do that?

[QUOTE="Zeifer21x"]

Now I know every console has enduring franchises that will be around for awhile. I understand that is part of the beast. We will probably see a few more uncharteds, more halo in some form, resident evils, etc. But what Nintendo is doing is totally out of wack.

I know nothing of what Nintendo's new next-gen console will offer, but I know there will be a Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. What else can the heroes in those games do that they haven't done for the past two decades?

Across all disiciplines and industries, smart people know when it is time to end things and move on. Things aren't meant to go on forever. I shudder at the thought of my kids in 2026 playing Mario (insert whatever) on Nintendo's futuristic console. I want my kids pulling out the old N64 to play OOT, not playing rehash after rehash.

Until things die, they can never be truly appreciated. Nintendo should usher in a new generation of heroes to take the places of the old ones and let gamers honor the heroes of old in their memories, not rehashes.

If you like football, do you want to play as Joe Namath or Joe Montana in this year's edition of Madden? Maybe for nostalgia, but they had their time. it was great, and people still honor them by remembering them. But I believe most people want to play with players who are currently here, picking up the torch where they left it. That is how it is supposed to be.

Instead, Nintendo milks them beyond belief.

It truly is horrible.

Says the person with a metal gear profile pic. Seriously they are franchises that keep evolving and changing the game. What does call of duty do? Come out every year.

Yes point out my profile pic because I ONLY spoke about Nintendo games. Good job guy. No one defended call of duty. I am saying Nintendo should honor their classic franchises by retiring them instead of rehashing them to death. Let the memories live on, but develop new ip. If other studios can, why can't they?
