I'm a fan of all sorts of types of shooter kevbo. I like Halo, I like Half-life, Doom, etc. That being said, Resident Evil 4 is one of the best video games I've ever played. I have to disagree with other people though by saying that if you aren't really hooked by the first chapter of the game, then you probably aren't going to agree that it's awesome. Perhaps it's the stop to shoot gameplay you don't like? Or maybe no straffing? Whatever the reasons, it is a very different action game than other FPS and 3rd person shooters out there.

I'm going to recommend you shelve it. You shouldn't be having to force yourself to play it, even if the 2nd and 3rd chapters are a bit better, the 1st was still amazing to me. That being said, it still is regarded as being one of my favorite games of all time, and I've put more hours into that game than almost any other game out there.

Yeah I thought the opening chapter was amazing and had plenty of action. My guess is if you play it like a run and gun action game it will be pretty boring and you have the potential to screw yourself by blowing through all your ammo or herbs early on. It's survival horror and the survival part is what makes the opening levels exciting as you really have to be careful with your ammo.

[QUOTE="rockydog1111"]Some 360 games upscale to 720P and there is a lot more compression used on a DVD9 then there is on a Bluray disc. Uncompressed looks crisper and usually (not necessarily in all games) better than compressed. ie blu ray and hd-dvd movies look better than upscaled dvd movies.niall077

logic FTW

1) You can have lossless compression and most compression is barely if at all noticable.

2) HD-DVD and Blu-Ray look better because they have a higher native resolution than DVD's. It has nothing to do with compression.

I think you are mistaking compression with lower resolution - not the same thing

The PS eye has the potential to be a compltely revolutionary game control, just not this gen or probably the next either, as processing power needs to be a couple of orders of magnitude better for it to be anything more than a novelty for a few special games.

I think that is misinformation. Companies can only ship the consoles that retailers want. It is a lie to think that Sony or MS or Nintendo could just ship millions of consoles to make their numbers look good. Somebody has to be ordering those consoles and willing to take them.

Second, shipped numbers may not be a perfectly accurate account of sales, but it is still an accurate indicator or RATE of sales. If demand drops, then consoles sit around and retailers don't order as many...so shipments drop. Or, as we saw with the GC, manufacturing had to be shut down altogether.

It doesn't do ANY company any good to spend money making consoles that are going to sit. That will only cause a massive quarterly loss which hurts the stock and costs the company. Really, there is absolutely no benefit to fake the shipped numbers, or to ship a ton of consoles just to improve your numbers.

ZIMdoom

Manipulating shipped numbers is very common, it is was used by MS to meet its 10 million consoles shipped milestone on time. And yes eventually this can only be used short-term to create an "apparent" uptick in sales, but whose to bet that MS or Sony (Nintendo probably can't make enough consoles to stuff the sales channels) use shipped numbers to claim some kind of "win" over the holiday period.

Do a search on channel stuffing to find numerous articles from a wide range of industries.

Gears says no.

Also the online mode is awesome apparently . Short SP has a big effect onthe scorein SP only games. But great online can make up for that.

Yeh it's a shame when you need multiplayer to make up for an average game - ala Halo 3.

I disagree - I really think that multiplayer is the future of gaming. Multiplayer is the norm now.

If this is true then we can kiss goodbye to games as art and games being accepted as a mainstream media. Games will just become sports for people who can't handle real sports. It will be a real shame if games go down this path just as they seem to be turning the corner and fulfilling their potential as a unique story telling media.

The memory thing doesn't hold water because there is a PS2 version of Rock Band coming out in December. The fact that the Wii-motes have the bluetooth available means that they could make a $150 version for Wii and still make more profit than on the 360 and PS3 versions. So I think we can definitely expect a version down the road, I think this was a massive oversight on EA's part which they probably regret. Escpecially because by the time they bring a Wii version out most people who are likely to get it will already have at least one guitar from guitar hero and won't be wanting the full package.

The fact that to play GC games you have to use a GC controller and a GC memory card. They couldn't use the Wii's internal memory and make a GC controller that plugs into the wiimote like the classic controller does? Means I will never play any old GC games even though I didn't get to play them last gen.

Gates that I could easily fit through if I squeezed in but THIS PATH IS BLOCKED OFF.

nyoroism

Or hills that are too steep to climb even though they are at a 45 degree angle. Or even worse, the slightly darker grass which it is impossible for your character to walk on for some unkown reason.
