[QUOTE="jessie5788"]if Ms is owning this gen why is the wii ahead of it why has the ps3 sold more this year with a 600 price tag and no games. donalbane

Because the number you are quoting is units sold to retailers that Sony deliberately presents at press junkets to disguise the grim reality that their system isn't selling for crap. The annual profits for Sony's game division, not to mention the numerous SKU'sand pricedrops, paint a more accurate picture of how things are going for Team Sony right now. Does anyone have those numbers off hand? I think it's something like -$800 million or something for the fiscal year.

The units they sold are sitting unplayed in warehouses. And MS did the same thing to meet theirgoal of 10 Million for the 1st year... it's an old trick.Annual profits paint a much more accurate picture.

As the PS3 is sold at a loss, a loss in the gaming division shows that they are actually selling quite a few playstation 3's and not much software. And every company gives numbers of units shipped to retailers.

I didn't have a console last gen, so if they want to port the best PS2 or Xbox or gamecube games and sell them at a reasonable price (ie a lot less than $50) then I am quite happy to buy the great games I missed. I also want new games, just so we are clear.

Because it has an excellent video game storyline, in that it moves you directly into the action with only a brief cutscene, and moves you through the story rapidly, without too much expostion. It is very atmospheric, graphics, sound, setting and the atmosphere shifts subtely as you move through the different areas. It has great bosses (although the final boss was dissapointing in my opinion) and great set pieces. Escorting Ashley helps expand on the game mechanics, you now have a completely helpless person to defend who you have to share your resources with, meaning you have to play the game differently to how you did when you were alone, which prevents the game from getting boring. It has a few simple puzzles that make you think a little, but aren't so taxing that you get stuck. There is a nice choice of weapons, different paths in weapon choice effect how you play the game, and all the weapons are very different in how they can be used. It also encourages replayability by way of unlockables.

Overall it is an excellent game, with only a very few negatives.

Oh and it has chainsaws and exploding heads!

My guess is they will try and head in a new direction altogether again. I am hoping for a resurection of virtual reality, with modern technology it could be amazing and realize all the promises it failed to live up to when it first came out.

Nothing would happen. Hermits are the masters of Damage Control by FAR. They will claim that the PC standards are higher, saying things like: "7.5 on PC=9.5 on Consoles".

Do you ever wonder why people say you cant own hermits? Because you honestly CANT! They wont admit it, they wont allow it! They NEEED to justify their expensive PC at ALL COSTS!

SpaceDragonMan

More like they just don't care that much for the whole ownage thing. Crysis only gets mentioned so much because it is pushing technology beyond what the consoles will be able achieve until the next generation. If Crysis fails there will be an even more technologically advanced game in the future that will succeed.

[QUOTE="magdalene1"]Wow, are the sheep completely delusional? Mario Galaxy may end up being a really fun game, but I don't think it looks that good at all. I'll be nice and give you the fur on the pink mole, but the features on the terrain are just very blocky, the tree's bark has no textures to speak of (just different shades of brown lines to say, "Hey, it's bark."), and the color pallette in all three photos is just awful. It's like one of the developers had one of those boxes of Crayola crayons with only 64 colors in it and said, "Boys, this is it." And don't even get me started on how "good" that haunted floating space castle looks. I don't see technical prowess or artistic direction here. Someone please put up some shots of the new Ratchet and Clank to show people what a modern platformer ought to look like. Or some pics of Kameo for that matter.magdalene1

Some people won't be happy until all games are reduced to looking exactly the same - either as close to photo realistic as possible, or as close an approximation of toy story as possible.

Choosing a reduced color palette is an artistic choice, a very common one in animated movies, even modern CGI animated movies. Go take a look at a picture from the incredibles and look at how the skin lacks texture as do the suits, and they certianly weren't lacking processing power.

Using the Incredibles, one of the best looking animated movies of all time, to try to convince me that SMG actually has good graphics just doesn't work.

Right the Incredibles looks amazing because of rendering power and artstyle. I ask you again to point out the textures on the faces of the characters or on their suits. They chose a very minimalist approach to rendering the characters, not because they were limited by hardware in any way but because it gives the movie a unique look. If you weren't whining about how crappy the Incredibles looked because of its lack of textures in specific circumstances, why start now?

Because system wars is more focused on bad games and ownage. No-one cares about a good game that wasn't really hyped, and scored above what people expected.

I agree with the TC. Ultimately more power is a good thing, and potentially allows for improved AI and physics. However, I don't think we have seen any games that really push the boundaries in these areas yet. I think most fanboys use the graphics, physics, AI claim to avoid being labelled graphic whores. I'm not sure that most fanboys could even give a good example of what they mean by improved physics.

Multiplayer and Singleplayer are entirely different. SP is narative driven in general, whereas MP is like sport. Personally I don't think game length should effect the score unless it effects the pacing of the game, but I am in a minority when it comes to this.
