Adventure games are expected to have good stories. That this one doesn't is a bit of a letdown.

Anyway, 8.5 is an excellent score. I hope this ends all whining that Gamespot is biased against Nintendo. Not that I think it will.

Dr_Corndog

8.5 seems like a good solid score but I have to disagree that adventure games are expected to have good stories. The Monkey Island games did not have very good stories, but they were very funny and had excellent puzzles.

But Bioshock is selling about the same on 360 as MP3 is selling on Wii.KingOfKonging

Huh? Where are you getting this from?

From another thread someone did this simple calculation -

1) According to VGCharz there are about 5mil Wii's and 7.4mil 360's in NA.

2) In the first 5 weeks of release Bioshock sold about 780K while MP3 sold 482K in NA.

3) Now if you work out the percentages they both come up to about 10% of the respective consoleuserbase getting those games.

Yes I know VGcharz is not completely accurate but it is accurate enough for an approximation. Bioshock has sold a lot more because it is also available in europe and the 360 install base in America is bigger than Wii's. Per console that the game is available to they are selling near equal.

I can understand how achievements could help extend the life of a game the same way as unlockables do. You want to complete the entire package and experience all the content that you can. Having a record of that is a good thing , you know what you have achieved and can share them with friends.

The fact that there are people who complete achievements JUST to increase their gamerscore, is pretty sad, you are now playing the game called gamerscore. And the fact that there are people who can only get enjoyment from a game if they know they can get external validation is extremely sad.

Hmmmm not sure if I should be offended over this statement since I don't rush out to buy a game I KNOW I won't like in order to gain their acheivements, but I WILL play a game I do like more in order to get acheivements and I DO like having a high Gamerscore.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of having a high gamerscore, but the score should be the outcome of playing the games you like, it shouldn't be the goal. You sound like someone who treats achievements the right way, some of the other people posting honestly sound like the only reason they play games is to get achievements and increase their score.

What's wrong with trying to amass a high Gamerscore?

I don't think either group got owned. 360 beat out the Wii with Halo 3 but just barely. Halo 3 moved some hardware but not enough to claim any kind of ownage, considering that Wii Sports has been moving those types of hardware numbers all year. However, the 360 did manage to take number one spot so no ownage on the Wii side either, although I think Reggie's comments about Halo shifting hardware are probably vindicated.

Metroid Prime 3 is barely past 500,000k in sales. That is not selling as well as Nintendo wants.

Halo 3 made that on the first night of preorders. (actually WAY more than that) I know MP3 is not released worldwide yet, but past MP games show that Europe and Japan don't really add that much to the total. A majority of the sales are in North America, and seeing that it's sold in NA now, sales aren't so hot. Red Steel and Mario Party 8 is selling better than an established franchise like Metroid, which was supposed to be one of the big 3 titles from the Wii.

I am not saying MP3 is not fun or anything, but that the sales are not as good as people would've liked. Maybe blame this on marketing, or maybe people make way too much out of motion controls and how revolutionary it is. Dual analog isn't stopping people from making Halo 3 the top selling game of the year.

But Bioshock is selling about the same on 360 as MP3 is selling on Wii. Halo 3 is a casual game and its marketing budget was probably 10 times what most games cost to make, so it is not surprising that it is selling extremely well.

Here in GS, there is a thread that states "Heavenly Sword" did 125k so far. With a budget of 20mil, the company has actually lost 12.5mil as of right now. Kilzone 2 has a budget of 40mil right? It would need to do about 650k to break even, which is entirely possible.

bizzybone613

See the thing about this is that the budgets will drop as time goes on as the developers will already have high-res textures, high polygon models etc from their first game that they can use when making a new game. A few smaller companies will die off as they overextend themselves transitioning to higher resolution graphics but most will be okay. Other companies will transition to Arcade/PSN/WiiWare.

The main problem, I think, will be the increase in advertising budgets. Capcom spent as much on advertising Lost World as they did making the game, $30 million for each. My guess is that Microsoft spent twice the money advertising Halo3 as they did making the game (although this one is a wild guess, and they probably recouped a lot of money with product tie ins). The success of the Lost Planet advertising blitz is going to push game advertising costs through the roof, easily doubling the budget of any game.

The problem with AI is that it has to be realistic in the game setting. For example I used to play quake 2 MP and the fastest you could move was when jumping, therefore in multiplayer games everyone would bunnyhop all over the maps. Now imagine playing SP if the AI figured this out. Basically the human player is free to exploit game mechanics, AI isn't.

Completely depends on the game. RTS - you can have a good game with 2 players. FPS you need at least 3 or 4 players for deathmatch, 8 min for a good team game (although I am sure there are exceptions to this). It all depends on the game and how it is designed.

SP is like movies, plot, characters etc. MP is like sports, competition, winning, rules, time limits, teams etc. They are actually completely different so it is not surprising that some people can love one and hate the other.

Oh and as someone stated above MP Co-op is indeed the best of both worlds.
