The Wii is getting a bunch of shovelware games and a few good games. You should focus on those few good games.

Because a lot of people on this forum have a lot of their personal identity tied up in being a gamer. The Wii comes along and appeals to old people and kids and soccer moms and makes "gamers" of these people, and they can't stand that their identity is now intertwined with these other groups.

Or because it has crappy graphics relative to the PS3 and 360.

It's highest rated game is a Wiimake, and then after that you've got a slew of next gen installments of decades old franchises or retro games.

Where's the innovation?

shsonline

Say it with me. "Motion Controls". I'm pretty sure that changing the interaction from player to game to be infinitely more immersive is pretty innovative. Also, they've been the company to set the standard in controllers for 20 years. (atari to NES, shoulder buttons on the SNES, analog on the N64, now this!).

Except the games aren't better because of that innovation. Wii still has some of the worst games this gen as well as poor versions of games that were good on other systems (ie NBA Live, Splinter Cell, Far Cry,Tiger Woods golf, etc. etc.)

Aren't better for people who are used to playing with a regular controller maybe. If I had to score games, the PC would be way out on top, the Wii would be middle of the road, and the majority of PS3 and 360 games would score low because I HATE regular console controllers for anything other than fighting games.

[QUOTE="Robio_basic"]Well you got Wii Sports are the number one selling Wii title in Japan where it was not bundled with the system. Had it not been bundled with the Wii here, I'm sure it would have sold just as much. shsonline

Yup, the innovation happened with Wii Sports and this is selling the console. Why else do people think that the Wii is outselling the other consoles?

Price and novelty.

Wiisports: 7.8...not exactly an earthshattering, groundbreaking game that took the world over.

It is though. It is the number one reason that the Wii is selling better than the competition.

FIRST OFF, I did not add nintendos "arcade games" if i did the list would be longer... I also did not add alot od those crappy movie games like Happy feet, shrek, etc. 2nd of all as some previous posters mentioned , we should compare the crappy list to the good list so here it is...

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - 9.1
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 8.5
Madden NFL 08 - 8.0
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - 7.5
Mario Strikers Charged - 7.5
SSX Blur - 7.4
Wii Sports - 7.8
Mercury Meltdown Revolution - 8.5
WarioWare: Smooth Moves - 9.1
Rayman Raving Rabbids - 8.0
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - 8.3
Trauma Center: Second Opinion - 8.0

St_Stu

Except you did include Happy Feet in your list of bad Wii games.

And in your list of good games above you have 12 games. The average 360 owner, which we are constantly told is the console of hardcore gamers, has only bought 6 games for his console. So that list should be enough to keep a hardcore gamer happy.

The problem arises when you drive from city A to city B, change disks to enter city B, realize that you need something from city A so turn around immediately, change disks, go to city A for a minute, pick up what you need and then return to city B, change disks again, then get a message saying that something important is happening in city A, turn around again, change disks to enter city A.

Not sure how shenmue got around this, if you can only move slowly then this would be a lot easier as you only have need a small overlap in city A and city B on each disk to allow you to backtrack a significant amount of time. Its more difficult in games like GTA which can have extremely fast moving cars.

Pripyat

But this wasn't the case with Shenmue, once you changed the disc you never had to change back again.

I never played Shenmue so don't know how it worked, my guess is that it was mainly cut scenes and maybe audio that you had to change disks for, things that wouldn't be repeated if you return to the same area. This won't be the case with newer games, where the extra space will be required for high res textures. It won't completely ruin a game, but will be annoying.

I think abandoning bc is a bad idea. For people who own a PS2 and have a good catalogue of games, it will make them less likely to transition to the PS3, because they will have to abandon their games or have two consoles. For people who didn't own a PS2 (like myself) backwards compatibility is a major plus becuase you have a HUGE catalogue of games that you haven't played to choose form at really low prices, as well as the new PS3 titles.

Sony's biggest asset coming into this generation was the number of people who had a PS2, and they are really making it difficult for those people to upgrade.

Lisiting the worst scoring games on a system shows what exactly? And you still had to list a few games that Gamespot doesn't even consider bad games, just fair.

lol, first you make thread about MP3 flopping in sales then you make another glorifying Bioshock. Why not just make one thread.cobrax80

Because it was pointed out in his other thread that MP3 was selling about as well as Bioshock in the US based on numbers of consoles sold. So he makes a new thread which uses the worldwide sales of Bioshock. Extremely pathetic.
