My top 5 favourite multiplayer games

Here's a list of my 5 favourite multiplayer games ever:

1. Battlfield 2 (PC): OK, its pretty laggy from time to time even on low ping servers and the load times can be ridiculously long, but it's so worth it. With loads of vehicles, excellent immersive infantry combat, strategic planning...this is the best game in the series and my fave online game ever.

2. Counter-Strike Source (PC): It's a bit repetitive but its damn addicitve. You can play this for hours or just in small bursts. BOOM! Headshot!

3. Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Yuris Revenge (PC): 1 on 1 battles are really fun in this, my fave strategy game ever! However, if you get rushed by the enemy at the start the game loses its fun factor.

4. Quake 2 (PC): You can still find a few odd servers on GameSpy Arcade for this classic. I dunno, I always prefered the frantic deathmatches in Quake 2 to Quake 3 Arena.

5. Halo (PC): Really good game for Capture The Flag. Whats cooler than running everyone down in the Warthog while your teammate shoots down enemy Banshees with the minigun on the back?

My top 5 favourite single-player games

Here are my top 5 favourite single-player campaigns ever. I will post another blog soon with my top 5 multiplayer games.

1. Doom 2 (PC): Its my faveourite game ever so I had to include it!

2. Half-Life 2 (PC): I think HL2 is a bit better than the original was. HL2 is an epic, unforgetable single-player game. However, Episode 1 wasnt nearly as good as HL2 or HL1.

3. Crysis (PC): Short but absolutely stunning, graphically and gameplay wise. Story isnt that great but it is just such a fun single-player game.

4. Resident Evil 4 (GC): Another epic game, RE4 has to be the best horror adventure game ever. Amazing game, just amazing.

5. STALKER Shadow Of Chernobyl (PC): The multiplayer isnt that great but the single-player was worth the wait for a game delayed for such a long time. I cant wait for STALKER Clear Sky.

It was quite hard to choose some of these: other games like Far Cry, Call Of Duty 2, Medal Of Honor Allied Assault, Grand Theft Auto 3, Half-Life 1 and Brothers In Arms almost made it in there.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl re-reviewed

Since I recently played through STALKER for the second time with the guide, completed more side missions, appreciated the combat more and found much more to do I decided I like the game more now so I decided to delete my old 8.5/10 STALKER review and write a new, more complete one. I have given the score 9/10 now instead. It's quite a long review so only read it thoroughly if you have a lot of free time on your hands.

My Top 10 Albums

10. Venom: Black Metal

OK, so at its time of release it was seen as appalingly sung and poorly recorded by the critics. But metal fans absolutely loved it and its had such a huge influence on tons of other bands (mainly thrash bands). Its still one of the most evil albums ever in my opinion, along with Black Sabbaths debut. Its totally badass. Every song on here is awesome, they are definitely one of the best New Wave Of British Heavy Metal bands along with Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard.

9. Judas Priest: Painkiller

THIS IS WHAT REAL METAL IS ALL ABOUT! 'Painkiller' is by far Priests heaviest offering. Glenn Tipton and KK Downing's guitar playing is by far the best here and Rob Halford's vocals are taken to the extreme! I think all real metal fans should own this.

8. Joe Satriani: Surfing With The Alien

I love this album. If you love guitar shred then you need this. OK, so theres no vocals but then none of Joe Satriani's albums have lyrics anyway, its his guitar playing which is what makes you listen to him. He's an amazing instrumental guitarist, one of my idols and one of the reasons why I play guitar. 'Midnight' sounds like a mandolin but its really just immense 2 hand-tapping on a guitar!

7. Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin II

This might be a suprise to Led Zep fans as I think 'II' is better than 'IV' or 'Physical Graffiti'. I dunno, I just think its where the band sounds best: it's pure rockin' blues.

6. Def leppard: Hysteria

It's pretty cheesy at times but this is an amazing British hard rock album. It's a top-quality album with great variety of songs. If you could only have 1 Def Leppard album ever make sure its this one.

5. Slayer: Reign In Blood

Overall this thrash album only takes about 30 minutes to get through but it's just stunning. Even though there's all these other new death metal bands that try to be as heavy as possible, I think Reign In Blood will forever reamin the 'fastest, heaviest and LOUDEST' album ever.

4. Deep Purple: In Rock

The only song I like before the mighty Deep Purple released 'In Rock' was 'Hush'. The band were basically reinvented when this came out. I think this is the definitive album in British hard rock, with kick ass tracks with damn cool guitar riffs like ' Black Night', 'Flight Of The Rat', 'Into The Fire' and 'Speed King' to name but a few. The album also features the band's 10 minute hard rock masterpiece 'Child In Time'.

3. Megadeth: Peace Sells...But Whos Buying?

Im a huge Megadeth fan and it was just really hard to decide which to include: this, 'So Far, So Good, So What!', or 'Rust In Piece'. But I went for this one, their second album. This is a thrash masterpiece and with great lyrics, guitar playing and vocals.

2. Van Halen: Van Halen

This is just a remarkable album. When I first head the whole thing (especially 'Eruption') I was just blown away. The guitar playing is just so amazing and Eddie Van Halen is my all time favourite guiatrist. The vocals from David Lee Roth were totally energetic and crazy. This is in my opinion the BEST rock album EVER.

1. Black Sabbath: Master Of Reality

Best metal album ever. I love all the Ozzy albums and the Dio albums but this one just stands out with the best riffs and vocals. While there are 5 awesome, damn heavy songs there are also 2 short melodic instrumentals and 'Solitude' which basically took the more dreamy, mellow sound from 'Planet Caravan' from the bands 'Paranoid' album. It's a metal classic.

Grand Theft Auto IV: I WANT IT!!!

Yep, GTA IV is out now, it predictably recieved a 10/10 on Gamespot and I really, really want the game. But guess what? I dont have a 360 or PS3 and I dont really want to buy one as im happy with my PC. BUT DAMN IT I WANNA PLAY GTA IV! Is it really worth buying a whole 360 console (dont wana spend loads on a PS3) just for GTA IV though? Maybe i'll think about it in the summer holidays but because ive got exams in about a month I dont want to get too distracted by buying a 360. But most of mates have 360s and they're all gonna get the game which is probably gonna p*** me off as they'll say how great it is. I'll be able to play the game at their houses but I would really like a copy of my own. If it came out on PC then Id be fine but I havent seen any news on this...

Biggest bargains i've ever had

Here are the best bargain games I've ever bought!

Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (PC): I bought this in 2007 and it was only £1 (about $2.50)!!! It was in excellent condition too.

Serious Sam Gold Edition (PC): I got this brand new in 2005 for £5 which was extremely cheap then as it contains 1st and 2nd Encounter!

Final Doom (PS1): This is a fairly rare game which I bought off a friend in 2005 for £3 (about $5.50). The average priceon eBay, Amazon and in shops second hand is about £20 (about $35)!

STALKER Shadow Of Chernobyl strategy guide (PC book): OK, so it's a guide, not a game but I had to include this one. The price tag said £10 (about $17. When I went to buy it they said that it should have been chucked away so they sold it to me for the cheapest price you can actually buy something in the UK...1 pence (about 3 cents)!!!

Battlefield 1942/BF 1942 Road To Roam/BF Vietnam/Medal Of Honor Allied Assault/Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault (PC): I bought this EA game pack which features all the above great games for only £10 (around $17)!!!!!

Stuntman (PS2): I found an old shop one time in 2004 that sold second hand CD's, Vinyl records, DVD's and a few odd games. And since they were closing down I found an old copy of Stuntman which they were selling for 20 pence (around 35 cents)!

Games I bought last year and this year so far

OK, well I dont buy many brand new games that have just been released. Maybe 3 a year on average. But I do buy a lot of other games!

2007:

ArmA Armed Assualt (PC): I bought this game a good 7 months after it's release. It's basically a new version of Operation Flashpoint and it's really great. I have reviewed the game already if you want to see my personal opinion of the game.

Boiling Point Road To Hell (PC): A free-roaming FPS set in South America? That's what made me buy this game! Check my review for this one, it was better than I expected.

Call Of Duty 2 (PC): This is an amazing WW2 shooter. I've reviewed this game too. It's got a fantastic single-player and great multiplayer with some excellent sound and intense fire fights.

Chronicles Of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay (PC): Definitely the bargain of the year, I got this amazing game second hand for only £1 (around $2.50)!!! It's the best movie game I have ever played with it's great gameplay, amazing graphics and quality voice acting featuring Vin Diesel himself!

Command & Conquer Red Alert Retaliation (PS1): This game is pretty rare and I was lucky to pick this up in the shop second hand. It was £15 (about $26 I think). I love Red Alert and the whole C&C series for the PC so I really like this game too. I have reviewed this game.

Crysis (PC): Ah, Crysis. This is one of the few games I bought on release. I bought it 2 days after Christmas so about a month after it came out. I love Crysis, it is the best game I bought in 2007 and you should read my review to see why!

Hitman Blood Money (PS2): My older brother got me this for Christmas. It is the only Hitman game I own but it's a really, damn good game. I love it how you can kill your target in so many ways!

Quake 4 (PC): I should've got this game on release really. I love the Quake series after all. But oh well. I've reviewed this game and I much prefer it to Doom 3. It's a simple but amazing game with great graphics, single player and multiplayer.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl (PC): I had been waiting for this game a long time and was really excited about it. I bought it a few days after it's release and I was a little dissapointed. However, it remains an excellent game with great gameplay and I have also reviewed it!

2008:

Brothers In Arms Earned In Blood (PC): I love this game. I have written a huge review on this amazing tactical WW2 game. I think it's one of the best WW2 games ever!

Elder Scrolls Oblivion (PC): I traded to get this one. I had already played it on a friends 360 but I think I actually prefer the PC version. This is one of the best games Ive played and tehre's so much to do.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (PC): This would be a good game if it didnt crash so much on my PC. I've tried patches, updating my drivers but this game is still glitchy and buggy and shuts down my PC. Grrrr.

New review

This is just to say I have written a new detailed review of Brothers In Arms Earned In Blood. It took me a while to write it and features a lot more text than most of my reviews. I would appreciate it if you read it! If you do want to read it just click the link and enjoy!

How I got into gaming (and FPS)

Well my first proper gaming experience was when my older brother got a Sega Saturn which we had many years ago. So many great games- Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, Command & Conquer, Die Hard Trilogy...shame my brother sold it a few years ago. He also had the original Game Boy with Mario and Tetris which I would play if I had the chance. That old Game Boy is still lurking around somewhere. Next, my parents bought a Windows 98 PC (which wasnt bought for gaming but of course that soon changed!). This is when things got serious. We had a lot of gaes which we still have now including Need For Speed, Flight Unlimited, Incoming, Quake 1 and 2 (enjoyed them whn I was younger but wasnt until I really got into FPS when I became a fan) and C&C Red Alert 1 and 2 and Yuris Revenge (we didnt get this until about 2001, then in 2006 I bought the First Decade so my brother kept the original Red Alert 1 and 2 copies).

But the main thing here is how did I get so into FPS? Medal Of Honor Frontline and Doom for the GBA! When I was 9 we got a PS2 and my game of choice was MOH Frontline. Since then it's just been FPS after FPS! Im 16 now so its been about 7 years of being an FPS fan and my FPS list is still being updated a lot!

Oblivion rules!

This is just a quick post to say that when I got Oblivion off a mate a few days ago, I am so far really enjoying it. I dunno why I got it so late in fact! I dont even like RPG's but Oblivion is different. You can expect to see a review of it by me soon and if you dont already have the game and are looking for an RPG or adventure game for PC or 360, then I highly recommend this game!
