if you are here you are definately hardcore. Casual gaming refers to people who play those webgames or poker online or the notorious scrabulous.
One of the funny things for me is to see in statistics that the 60 and older crowd are some of the biggest pc gamers. This is completely due to the casual online games.
[QUOTE="bekonkun"] Does anyone know of any ways to create an mmo?zomglolcats
Well, creating an MMO is a GARGANTUAN task. First, do you have any programming experience? If not, download Visual C++ (express version is free) and look at the SDK (software developer kit). You're going to have to know network programming like the back of your hand, not to mention direct X programming. Now, there are some game development platforms that work in conjunction with C++ and other languages to make Direct X programming easier. But making even the simplest online game can be a huge undertaking.
Start out small. Yes, even something as crappy as asteroids. Then code it to be a 2 player game. Then go from there. If you can't start small, you'll never get the big stuff.
And for an MMO you're going to need a team of dedicated people. Which is extremely hard to come by, especially if you can't afford to pay them for work.
I do some homebrew game programming, but the prospect of an MMO is absolutely mind boggling. Database coding, network coding, direct x coding, graphics enging coding, 3D artwork and modeling, etc.
Not trying to discourage you, just letting you know what you are up against. It isn't pretty.
I don't know that this is true. There are dozens of rpg creators on the market. Some of them offer multiplayer functionality. They still require some learning and you won't make a game like WOW but it is relatively easy to make a basic mmo to play.
I've seen a lot of people here saying that Oblivion sucks and does not compare to Morrowind. After some wondering why this might be, I watched the ZP review. Yahtzee's problems with the game (fast travel ruining the point to a large game world, NPCs in the middle of the uncanny valley) are ones that were in Morrowind as well. He even mentions a problem he had with Morrowind (The difficulty between changing from physical attacks to magic). So I ask you Gamespot, what's wrong with Oblivion?rifton
Its just a popular game so people say it sucks to prove how original they are. It definately has some flaws but I wouldn't complain if a game like oblivion came out every month.
The same people complain about half-life, dues ex, mafia, bioshock, stalker, halo, crysis, and gta. Some of those on the list aren't my favorites but they are all good games and we could use more like them.
i know but plenty of people do it and i just dont have much time to play anymoreSportsnumber8
Oh well if its convientient and other people are doing it then by all means break the law.
Just to add a contrasting view point..... Stalker is a game people either love or hate. I didn't like it personally. It's graphics are really not up to standard. More importantly though the game play was a little too hard for my taste. It starts out slow. And the biggest things for me was that it just wasn't fun. I never could get into it.
Having said all that, What is stalker now? $15 max? I think you should buy it and decide for yourself unless money is really tight. If money is an issue I would try something else.
