@PotHeel @adrianjarca @epicgameresearc That's not what I said.
What I said is that people agree with Joe and others more than with Kevin or Mark simply because Joe's own opinion is influenced by the opinions of the community whereas Kevin and Mark's aren't.
@dannyodwyer @electroban @gufberg Hey Danny, may I recommend that you play Battlefield 1942 on RE on Thursday. It's available for free on Origin so you could bring in some folks ther chat and play together live.
Sorry for doing this here and derailing the discussion but I don't have a twiter account and GS messaging system has not served me well in the past.
@epicgameresearc Something cannot be subjective and objective at the same time. You cannot agree that reviews are based on "personal preference" and demand that they be objective. Those two terms are antithetical, and unless you want to venture in the realms of Hegel and Kant, nothing can be two opposite things at once.
Joe's reviews are also based solely on his own opinion and he does not "report on audiences that could connect with the titles". The only reason people agree with his reviews more than with Gamespot's is because unlike the Gamespot reviewers, Joe is part of, and in close contact with, the community he "serves" and therefore his opinions all in line with those of the community. As you may or may not know, everybody's opinion on everything is heavily influenced by the opinion of the people they come into contact with.
Now when you look at Gamespot's reviewers, and not just Gasmespot basically every professional reviewer falls in this category, you will that unlike Joe or Total Biscuit, even Yahtzee in most cases, they are not in contact with the community during the reviewing process (due to the very nature of their job and competitiveness of the market most reviewers usually play the game before it is even released or before anyone has any sort of feelings about it) and therefore it is almost impossible for them to form an opinion in line with that of the community, resulting in this gap you speak of.
It is not something that can be fixed without severe changes to your business model or the game reviewing market as a whole.
