Just a shade over £600

clyde46

I can't even tell what video card that is? ANd that processor is years old and a piece of crap. An Athlon II X4 costs less than $100 and is much better than that. And it fits in the new AM3 slot.

Anyway, what videocard is that?

In my mind, anyone who builds a PC today is doing so to play 2010 and beyond games.

I guess you can build a cheap PC to run 2006 games maxed out and be happy but it just doesn't make sense to me.

lundy86_4

What makes your mind correct? In my mind unicorns exist and I ride a magic dragon. Reasons to build a PC are numerous and varied.

Also, a $600 PC could run many *modern* games at max or near maxed out if you shop well. Seriously, just stop this argument as my side has been proved plenty on this board. Yours? Not so much.... Kinda failed every time.

For example, a $600 PC cannot run A SINGLE GAME IN DX11 on max settings. In late 2010 and of course all throughout 2011, all games will have a DX11 build and this cheap PC will not be able to max out ANY of them. Not even 1.

So yes, enjoy gaming in medium DX10 settings.

This cost me £65, which is the same price as night out on a friday :P

clyde46

I'm sorry but you can't run games in DX11 with that.

But still, there are a lot of great games from 2006 and before that i'm sure you will enjoy.

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"] Uh. What? Crysis and Shattered Horizon aren't graphically intensive? I run both of those pretty much maxed (actually, Crysis can run maxed if I so desire, with a couple more hiccups in the framerate). :?

And then every other game I run is completely maxed out, at a fairly good resolution too :?

ferret-gamer

If you can max out the games you play then I guess you don't like graphically intensive games. Aside from Crysis which was released in 2006 and with graphics mods it would still choke out your cheap PC.

Again a $450 PC from 2008 can easily outperform a console and max out/ run on high most games. Learn to shop frugally and stop looking at overpriced stuff like alienware

Alienware is $5,000.

$2,000 is actually a great deal and you have to build it yourself.

[QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]

y'know what bugs me about the scads of dudes telling me a gaming pc is $600 is that they are absolutely correct.

y'know what bugs me further? that they never seem to include an operating system in that, or a gaming mouse and gaming kb, and a monitor, and a sound system.

seriously guys omitting the details is still lying by omission.

so yeah did the guy exaggerate by saying $2000? yeah sure he did, but he didn't exaggerate by much depending on the quality of the extras you wan to buy.

i would say i easily have almost $2000 tied upin my pc setup, yeah i like big monitors and surround sound sue me.

Skittles_McGee

If you already owned a PC, you already had a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. If you didn't own a PC already, congratulations you only spent about $100 more than you would have for a non-gaming PC. Which is in itself, less than a console would cost (not to say a PC is cheaper, but that puts this in perspective) It only costs what you want it to cost, really.

Ok great you're talking about an UPGRADE and not a NEW BUILD. Wonderful, next time be more clear.

Oh and an OS by itself is $100, keyboard and mouse decent quality is $100 together plus decent speakers is $40.

I'll play the preference card and say the PS3 is the best system if you can only afford one console

dvalo9

90% of multiplats are inferior to the 360 version, sometimes horrible like Bayonetta. True butnot by much in most cases, game was patched

Mass Effect 1 and 2 as well as any non exclusive 360/PC games are not available on the PS3. but still on pc

Kinect is a lot better than the Wi-mote ripoff Move. you have both? and really even most lems would say otherwise

Xbox Live may cost $50 a year but it's much better than PSN. True. slight exaggeration there however.

360 is also a cheaper console. Yea you can buy the $300 slim but you can also buy a $200 4GB slim if you so desire. Or you can get a $100 Jasper Arcade. A lot of cheap options. The PS3 is just $300 and up and with no pack in games. i would rather pay the extra 50 for blu ray features than pay 150 extra for a standalone player.

What if you don't want to pay the extra $100 for blu-ray? You don't have that option do you?

With 360 you get what you want, when you want. You're never forced to upgrade to blu-ray until you're ready. And today you can get a quality blu-ray player for $100. I'm talking about a blu-ray player with wifi and netflix for only $100.

[QUOTE="toast_burner"] A $2000 PC isnt a Gaming PC, Its a PC used for time travel and other ridiculously complex stuff.

For 1/3 of that price you can easily max out every single PC game to date

ferret-gamer

Even with a $2,000 PC, you can't max out every single PC game to date. Most but not every game.

With a $666 PC you're going to play on medium mostly.

perhaps actually learn what hardware you can get for $600 before making these claims. You can get a quad core, and a 5770 and 4gb ram, that can max just about all but 2-3 games on a resolution of 1650x1050 or higher.

Go ahead and post the build part by part and i'll review it for accuracy.

Quad core? Maybe you're thinking of an Athlon II 620.

Actually... That's completely wrong. Most budget builds i've seen for around that price would actually be able to run *a lot* of games on high/max settings. More intensive games, are in the minority, and thus you could run *more* reasonably well.

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"] Erm, my PC cost me $1400 less than the cost you listed, and its plenty good :?

Skittles_McGee

Plenty good for YOU but you probably don't play graphically intensive games.

For most it would defeat it's purpose to be a PC gamer only to play with medium settings.

Might want to avoid buying a $2000 PC then... You can do that by buying a cheaper one.

ferret-gamer

But then again, a cheap PC is not so good.

$500 pc is easily more powerful than a console. Hell my $450 pc from 2008 was easily more powerful than the console, and the only upgrade i got for it was free.

First of all a $500 PC IS a 2008 PC. Hell high end 2006 PC is a lot better than a $500 PC.

A $500 PC is more of a cheap, outdated junk parts trash build to make a point on forums than anything.

If you want to build a real PC then you start at $1,000 and that is for an AMD build. An i7 build starts at $1,250.
