I'd say Warcraft 3 is rather significant. The entire moba genre first kicked off back in 2003 from the custom maps. That is where i fist saw the title "Defense of the Ancients".
I've just now discovered this new game and as a huge tactics fan i'm pretty upset. All the reviews i've seen thus far paint this as a pretty badly priced cash grab. Of course no one will pay the absurd amount of money they are charging for any decent amount of in-game content, so that means in turn Square will use that lack of profits to assume no one cares about tactics and its a waste of time. It would have been better if they did nothing at all instead of this mobile game. At least then it would always be debatable if their was enough interest in tactics to justify a legitimate sequel. Now we're probably never getting anything.
I havent watched this video yet (i'll check it out today during my lunch break) but i think its worth noting Ryu and Ken's Hadouken was ripped off from Goku's Kamehameha. It must have been as i'm pretty sure Dragonball predates Streetfighter. Now that said, of course as a kid my first exposure was Streetfighter, and yes i was running around school and playgrounds "hadoukening" all the other kids repeatedly.
Hmmm well that is definitely very cool news if that is the case however there is a flaw to that. The villain killing your character is kind of an important part of the story. I wouldnt completely remove this from the game personally. I'd change that scene so that rather than kill her specifically, we'd get a choice. Imagine for a second Cloud dies instead of her. We'd have a totally different story then. Definitely something to get people's attention for this game and satisfy people that want her alive.
@lostn: I'll admit i havent actually looked at a lot of the details around combat mechanics for this game but i'm guessing there is a lot more to it than the original. I mean, that was pretty much entirely materia making actual characters carry a lot less weight for combat mechanics. I know that isnt to say people dont get attached to her as a character but still.... if this game has something more similar to a typical action game for a leveling system and that information/progress carries over to later episodes... why bother with her? We already know what happens. I feel like maybe there is the possibility of her survival this time because of this. If i were the developers, i definitely wouldnt want to waste time on her work if it wasnt going anywhere.
The real question here is.... how are they gonna handle Aries' development/mechanics and whatever if we already know that will be a waste of time? Obviously i dont mean during this part but the next episode will have this issue.
