I was just a boy when the infidels came to my village in their Blackhawk helicopters. The infidels fired at the oil fields and they lit up like the eyes of Allah. Burning oil rained down from the sky and cooked everything it touched. I could only hide myself and cry as my goats were consumed by the fiery black liquid death. In the midst of the chaos, I could swear that I heard my goats screaming for help. As quickly as they had come, the infidels were gone. It was on that day I put a jihad on them. And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.

I susgest you read your own posts before posting. You clearly stated that they wear it because they are in the middle east, therefore if they are not in the middle east there is no reason for them to wear it.

I was being sarcastic...hence the *facepalm*!!!

We're not in the Middle East here, there's no reason to wear them.

markop2003
*facepalm* People wear the veil because they are in the Middle East. You should read the article.

Neither the US, UK or Belgium is in the middle east...... so what exactly are you arguing here?

OMG seriously. People wear them for personal reasons. The reason for wearing them isnt because they are in the middle east but because they believe it protects their dignity and modesty and is required by their religion. Did anyone read the article?

[QUOTE="clyde46"][QUOTE="anasbouzid"] This is the most intollerant statement I have ever heard. I am American, where I have by law the right to worship as I please and dress as I please. If I was scottish and wore a kilt noone would have a problem. You know what kilt wearer, wear your kilts in your own country not here. God dang. I cant believe anyone in american could say this flat out with no problems. America is not yours. The culture is not made by you for you and for people with you tastes in music, clothes, religion, so on and so on. IF YOU DONT WANT TO ACT LIKE US, DRESS LIKE US, BE LIKE US AND BY US I MEAN PEOPLE LIKE ME THEN GTFO AMERICA. If you dont like the fact the American culture is changing and will always be changing then why dont you get out?!?

Wolls

Who said I was American?

Also i dont see american culture changing that much. The fact is country's in the middle east have their own laws and so do places like America and the UK, it is not for you to come over and expect their laws to change for your sake as it is not an american's right to demand laws changing Iran etc.

No, this country makes promises to all its citizens no matter their origins be it germany or saudi arabia and that is freedom of speech, freedom of religion and much more. This necessitates and adaptive law system which we have.

If you believe your religion commands you to wear that, sure, go ahead, but you can't expect other societies to accept it when it interferes with the normal ways of that society; in this case it being the identification of an individual.

MindFreeze
I dont understand so here in american, we have freedom of religion except when it conflicts with our TRADITIONAL way of identifying people?

Well, I don't live in America, but it ought to be the same for any country. For you it might be a matter of religion, but for the the society it is not, whatsoever. It is the simple fact that someone can not be indentified that causes the banning of them. That the wearing of them is religiously motivated is irrelevant.

Not completely true. The motivation behind the banning is far more than just for security reasons. Go look at what Sarchozy said is the reason it should be banned. Look, if you want a "secular democracy" and you take action like the banning you need to be completely and utterly fair and ban masks even on holidays and anything that can cover the face in public. If you ban the scarf, then you ban what nuns wear as well and what christians wear (crosses etc) and what jews wear.

Ok how about someone being identified by finger prints. Sir, if you want to be served either take the helmet off or give us a finger print.

markop2003
That's active identification, it needs to be passive.

so it is an option and it is better than banning. I am saying there are a slew of more tollerant, better options that dont restrict freedoms of one particular mostly innocent group of people. We have amish people here in the united states, we are not requireing them to cut their hair so they can be better identified by their face?

I am confused...what? What I am saying is pass a law that allows women to wear the veil only if the veil has some way of being identified and requiring the person to register the veil. That way if something shady happens then police and people will be able to identify possibly even more easily (its easier to remember and identify a number than a face) the person involved and if someone else is wearing the veil then the number can be used to trace it which places resposibility of the person who own the veil of making sure it is secure and not abused.

markop2003
That would be incredibly expensive and be open to a lot of abuse. The entire commercial and goverment CCTV network would have to be rebuilt and if you wanted to comit a crime you could simply take someone elses veil. There are also the technical issues of making it work from all angles and making it positional so it could work in crowded environments, the best method i can think of is ultra long range RFID triangulated from at least 3 trackers (4 if considering height) and the best i can currently find have a theoretical max range of 14m and cost about $500 a piece and you'ld need 3 of them for each 14m stretch.

there are only several hundred veil wearers in Belgium and what 4 thousand in france. Also, were there any incidents of veil wearing people caught stealing and robbing banks and such.
