Can the fan test clean out the dust, too? You know, where you flip off the switch on the back, hold the eject button, flip the switch on (while holding the eject button), then wait until the fan turns on?
I can't remember, but right now we can't really compare the PS3 to the PS2, in my opinion. Sony launched the PS2 several years ago and has had time to perfect the system.

I'm pretty sure it is new, despite the tape. I don't think the eBayer would lie cuz they have 99.7% positive feedback...Still not sure if I should ask for an exchange or not...all my friends thought I was rediculous wanting to return it b/c of that...
how long will it take to break it in tho? :s A friend suggested putting a drop or two of bike chain oil or wd40 in it. Do you think that that would work? Or just go with the breaking it in way?
