Apple launched a game console many, many years ago, and it flopped big time!

I definitely hope it is an improvement on the Wii, but I hope that they don't make too much of an upgrade as making 'beastly' gaming consoles will prove to be the downfall of the console gaming market.

Development costs per game are skyrocketing thanks in large part to an improvement in graphics (check out the polygon count for the new Xbox). This extra cost is a result of extra time being needed to both program and render high quality graphics. As a consequence, you get less high quality games at a higher cost today than you did in the past. PC gaming circumvents these costs largely by not really involving itself in "cycles" such as those we see in consoles.

I'm not saying that I want to see a return to NES quality graphics or anything, but at the end of the day, it is the amount of fun one has while gaming that matters, not the amount of "oh, that was pretty" alongside sparse content.

Conversely, one of the reasons that 'app' based games (or games programmed solely for online stores on Apple, Android, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, etc. products) are taking off is that they are good looking, solid games that provide pleasure at a low cost to the consumer. They are quickly becoming the mortar which is holding the gaming world together.

Just my two cents...

I agree with Bennop...although the textures might be minutely better, I find the X360 images washed out and dull. When the game is in full swing, you can only absorb so much of the textures, but you experience the lighting and shadows constantly (especially in batman) ah well, tis all subjective any ways

For FPS, RTS, and TBS, pc is definately the way to go (not only graphically, but mouse and keyboard work better in these genre). Regardless, as I don't care for FPS, I hardly use my pc for gaming as it only runs my command and conquer or starcraft games as well as civilization type games. For all the rest, consoles are the way to go. Interface is more important than graphics in my books, and I have yet to find a pc joypad or joystick I enjoy.
