So, Naruto vows that he will beat Gaara. He Kage bunshins, and after some quick movement, he manages to get behind Gaara. Finding Gaara's weak spot, Naruto shoves his kunai up Gaara's ass for 1000 Years of Pain! An unhappy Gaara knocks Naruto back as the kunai tag explodes. Unfortunately, Gaara's sand armor absorbs most of the blow and Gaara's ready to continue the fight.
Sasuke uses the brief interlude to reveal his softer side - he's already lost everything once. He won't let another important friend die before him. Cue the music - Sasuke's not such a bad guy after all (well, at least not yet…) and he even likes Naruto, much to Naruto's glee! The encouragement gives Naruto the motivation to continue onward as he remembers what Haku told him so long ago - being strong means fighting for yourself. He then powers up and again Kage Bunshins. Sasuke watches helplessly, surprised that Naruto has become so powerful. After a few lucky shots, Gaara is thrown backwards and falls to the ground below.
But Gaara's tired of playing around and completes his transformation to the mighty Shukaku - a particularly large, and quite unattractive, raccoon about the size of Gamabunta - and destroying all the Naruto clones in the process.
Naruto quickly summons Gamabunta just in time to avoid Desert Funeral. The frog king isn't thrilled to see Shukaku and begins taunting Naruto until Gamakichi hops onto Naruto's head and takes Naruto's side. Gamabunta is surprised to see him, and after hearing how Shukaku had been picking on him, Gamabunta's ready to join the fight.
Seeing the large toad run full speed at the insane raccoon with a sword is one of the more entertaining things I've seen. This battle is truly ridiculous. Gamabunta manages to get close enough to slice off one of Shukaku's arms and it dissolves to sand. After some brief instructions from Naruto on where Sakura is being held, Gamabunta continues his assault.
Shukaku then reveals Gaara's human body - his medium. Gamabunta explains that because the demon raccoon has possessed Gaara, he has been unable to sleep at night. That's why he has such large, black rings around his eyes. If Gaara was to fall asleep, Shukaku would gradually eat away at his personality until nothing remained. Shukaku's powers are also limited while Gaara is awake, but once he falls asleep, the Wild Raccoon will emerge in complete control.
With Tanuki Neiri no Jutsu! (Forced Sleep Technique), Gaara falls asleep and Shukaku's true personality emerges. He does Fuuton Renkuudan! (Wind Element, Compressed Air Ball) send an air blast at Gamabunta, who dodges and uses Suiton Teppoudama! (Water Element, Gun Bullet) to counter with a water technique.
The monster battle rages on until Gamabunta instructs Naruto to wake Gaara up. Easier said than done - they must first get close enough to the raccoon for Naruto to jump onto his head. And the large toad isn't very good at grabbing a hold of things. So, Naruto must transform into something that has fangs and claws. Of course, the first thing to come to mind is the Demon Fox, and soon Kyubi's form is racing at Shukaku.
