[QUOTE="FelipeInside"] No, you are playing the victim here and it's not warranted. The games that require Internet say so on the box or on the website, just because you didn't read it or researched it (or even just asked here or at the shop) doesn't mean the games "screwed" you over. I hate when people think the games or company screws them over when the information was there from the get go. Steam is "client" that sells games online. Lots of PC games come as "SteamWorks" which means they require Steam to work, which means you need the Internet. Steam also has an OFFLINE mode but it needs to go online to activate the game and update it first (it's a DRM procedure for piracy). The download will eventually complete, be aware that there are probably another million people trying to download that same patch right now, since the game just got released. You mentioned your internet isn't the greatest too, so that's going to influence the timeframe. If you want to game on PC, don't compare it to consoles, just learn how things work. Console also need to update through the internet, and there are rumours that the next generation will use online DRM, which is the same as Steam.

I would not even think to ask, and it seems ridiculous to me that the games would need the internet. Then, I thought Diablo III was the exception. They're just the ones that make you be online all the time. Now all the other ones make you download that much before playing them. I have never even heard of that. Of course I was able to activate XCOM, but the box did not say you needed to download that much. That was very unclear (even though I didn't even notice that you needed the internet at all until I had already left). I've interuppted the download so many times, I'm worried that the data will be corrupted. I hope that will not be the case. Now I do know to look for that, but it sucks that I didn't just get a cheap game to play, which would not be any problem at all.

Okay, if you just want to help me, then you can tell me if you think that I will eventually be able to complete this download and play the game. Maybe I should just think Steam is good enough for that. The XCOM warning is pretty ridiculous that I can't return the game if it doesn't work. I guess it's no one's fault that they require the internet, but that is pretty surprising that the two games I wanted to get both screwed me like that (Diablo III). They should have made it more clear at the store that all the big time games require the internet. That is a lot different than playing on PS3.

Well, I don't know what Steam is (or how big it is). It seems strange to me that they would have to patch a game on the day it came out. Why do you say, it's something good for the game? you're acting like a 3 year old just because you can, good for you.

I'm working on upgrading my internet. I hope to have it going in another month. I don't understand what it is that XCOM needed me to download that was 1000 MBs at the end of the installation, and they have a warning that I can't return it now that I tried to install the game. That's pretty unfair for me, because I did not know that you needed to have the internet connection to begin with. I tried installing it at the public library, but that only got me as far as I've noted. I still have hope that Steam will correctly complete the install, but that's far from a sure bet. It's a tough lesson to me to find out the hard way that all PC games require the internet, and I'm not happy about it at all.

Sorry to break the news but consoles are the same. They need to be updated and if you don't have an internet connection you can't do it (unless get it on USB from another internet connection).

As for your case, do you have any friends that can download it for you? Maybe even the place where you bought it?

I really don't understand how you can say that's the same thing with consoles. All the games automatically update the system for you if it needs a system update. Are there any games for PS3 or XBOX 360 that require you to have an internet connection just to play the single player game? Maybe the place I bought it can help me finish the download off of Steam. I'll try them eventually, but I hadn't thought of that!

Got the game today, but I can't play it because of the download at the end of the installation. Questions for the experts: 1) I have the special edition, is this the reason that I have a 1000 MB download at the end of the installation, because of DLC content, or would I have that much to download off of steam with every edition of the game? Of course the main problem is my internet connection. I can't think of anywhere I can download that much data around here. 2) Do you think that I will be able to correctly install the game at all now that my download is stuck somewhere around 11000/12000 MB's? When I go back to it I might get corrupt data. Steam seems like a reliable system, so I might be okay. please let me know what you think. I typed in my access code, so I might get totally screwed out of my game here. I love how PC versions of the game seem to totally screw you out of playing games just because you don't have an internet connection.

Can I send the playstation back to Sony if it is still under warranty, but I already traded in one of the games? Also, I don't have any of the original packaging. It seems like I can just send the system back on its own from what I have read here. I'm pretty sure that I can get a proof of purchase from November of last year. Is that going to be all it takes, and then I can just send it back no problem?

Well if it's been less than a year, at least it's still under warranty. The Blu-ray on mine died at 14 months. Luckily for me, those are fairly cheap and easy to fix on your own. Cost me about 40 bucks to fix it.Threesixtyci
How do you fix the Blu-ray on your own? I would think that would be pretty much the whole system. It might void the warranty if I open up my Playstation 3. What happens if I exchanged one of the games that came with the system? Do you know if I can still send the system to Sony? The disc that is stuck in the system, will they send that back to me?

[QUOTE="Dysantic"][QUOTE="bb2945"][QUOTE="Dysantic"]When you turn it on, does the standby red light come on? Can you hear the disc spin when you turn it on? Did you try removing the harddrive and making sure it is in properly? Is your system completely covered in dust and possibly overheating? Is it sad that any an all of these could be the cause? lol

the red standby light comes on, the disc only spins for about 1/2 second. the ps3 is pretty dusty. Is there any chance of sending it sony on the warranty?

Well, I'll bet its overheating due to the dust. Give it about a day and clean it out with a compressed air can or worst case, your vaccuum and then give it a try. If its really dusty you brought this on yourself...

No, I don't actually think that it was that. It might have been something like the outlets surged too much (since I just changed where I was playing). Since my fatty died, I'm pretty sure this one is the same thing, but there is no yellow light. Last time it was from overheating, but I was careful about that with my slim model. how could this one die in less than one year?
