@dlCHIEF58: We don't know that they have parts ordered & ready to manufacture the next console. I am aware that there was a leak suggesting that the Neo would launch in October but seeing as VR is launching in October, could it be that the parts are for that rather than the Neo?
@ArabrockermanX: It can. The games just look like N64 era.
As a PC gamer, I am well aware that the PS4 is severely underpowered but at their own E3 conference they claimed that it "already had the power to run VR". The add-on box that comes with the VR package is purely to run positional surround audio.
@zeroinspo: I think what people want is more great content & less filler.
For me, The Witcher 3 is an example of being stacked with great content. Every quest has a story or an interesting character & the actual quest isn't just a copy-paste, doing exactly the same thing every time. A lot of open world games have become like Assassin's Creed where there are a handful of mission types that just get repeated over & over again. Watch Dogs really suffered from this, even taking down the underground human trafficking ring wound up with a bunch of missions where you did nothing but tail a car - a huge plot point boiled down to a mission you had already done more than a dozen times before.
The problem is that many people who buy into big RPGs aren't casuals but also aren't necessarily long-term fans of that particular game, eager to eat up whatever content is there. People in this group are often completionists, they hate to see a bunch of points on a map that they haven't been to yet or an incomplete checklist of items to collect or tasks to do. The problem arises when devs fill out the game with content that just isn't much fun after doing it a bunch of times. Sometimes people in this group would rather just stop playing a game ("I'll finish it later, right after this other one") than complete the story with a tonne of items uncollected & side missions incomplete.
I'm sure there are plenty of filthy casual haters in the comments here too & I don't think devs should try to cater to them with every game but there's a legitimate complaint there as well.
@Vavires: Let the hype grow! Join the enlightened & pre-order every game before you know anything about it! You need not worry if the game will be good, the hype will save you!
@ROMSES: How did you get that many hours out of The Witcher 3?
I just finished New Game Plus on Death March & clocked in about 173 hours for two playthroughs (before starting the expansions). If you got 150 hours from a single playthrough, I don't know what you were doing wrong! Did know know there is fast travel?
I haven't dipped into Final Fantasy for a while but I remember plenty of grind. If that's where the 100 hours comes from, I'm out. Hopefully they've learned a few things from Western RPGs over the years but you never know.
To be honest, I'm probably out any way because it's not coming to PC. There are a few Sony exclusives that look enticing but it's hard to tell if this is one yet.
I wouldn't put to much stock in this report. If Sony releases a more powerful console this year then MS has an opportunity to release an even more powerful box next year.
Considering they only confirmed the Neo but didn't give any details but rather specifically said that the PS4 already has the power necessary for VR, I doubt it will come out this year. They're focusing on pushing VR - if they have to sell people a VR kit & then an upgraded console 2 months later, I don't think consumers will be happy.
There may have been plans for the possibility of a launch this year but they're not stupid. They saw the Scorpio like everyone else & they will react to market conditions. I'm sure they want to remain a market leader, they won't necessarily wait til after Scorpio launches but they won't put out a new console without competition either.
This article tells us 3 times how they made Microsoft change to the OneDrive. Including doing it two sentences in a row. Are you trying to fill out a word requirement or something? This is not a high school essay.
@hermitkiller: I don't think I have the right to play every game. If Sony completely funds a studio like Naughty Dog then I can completely understand why they would keep their games as exclusives.
It's just not consumer friendly. PC isn't really a competitor with the consoles, it's in a different league. I would happily give Sony money for their games if I could play them on the system I've already invested in.
@adamus: It's not that I'm too cheap, it's that I like value for my money. Oh, and I like performance.
I've invested heavily in my PC with an i7 processor, two GTX970s & a 1440P 165Hz monitor. Most AAA games that come out are on PC as well & I can get an objectively better experience while paying less for each game on PC. The only games I would play on a console would be the exclusives.
