It's kinda funny, if there wasn't already a massive SF community waiting to play this game, it would have bombed hard. If this game was taken in isolation, it would be the worst launch ever.

As is stands, the hardcore guys have something they can be happy with here but it's so incomplete that for anyone else, this is probably a 5, not a 7. Lacklustre story mode? OK would have been nice but no biggie. No arcade mode. What?! It doesn't even have a decent training mode so that if you want to compete at the level where this game is actually fun then you're going to have to learn the hard way.

To be honest I think it's mostly a marketing problem. This version of the game released in time for the eSports scene but it's clearly not finished yet. They should be letting people know at point of sale that this is an unfinished game. Delayed reviews don't help with this either. I get that Peter chose to wait til the online problems were sorted to avoid giving an unfairly punishing score, but how many suckers bought this game in the meantime, hearing that servers were OK but knowing how in complete it is?

@ShimmerMan: Also, there's no arcade mode. So... yeah.

@doublem-k: Yep & I know that I probably won't buy it.

I played the closed beta, didn't bother with the open one this weekend. The stat the people played about 5 hours on average - yep, not enough content to play longer than that. If you love the dark zone, great. If you want to play an RPG, which is what they're selling it as, then I think it will be struggle to stay entertained once the story is over.

I love how everyone reads the review & then says it's wrong despite not actually having played the game themselves.

This game looks kinda cool but it needs to be shorter than the usual Far Cry experience if the combat isn't going to stay fresh. Open world games tend to suffer from having dozens of sidequests to fill out the game & often aren't that fun after you've done the same thing over & over again. This might be one of those games that is fun for a while but few people will actually finish.

@noah364: That all makes sense as something that could be true, I just don't like the assumption that it's true.

I think it's mostly about looking at what we can tell from geology - we give the world an age & then we slot things into a timeline that looks like it makes sense. There isn't a tonne of evidence that any of that is true. If you look at everything we do know that humans have created in the last several thousand years, it makes it hard to believe that 90% of our existence has been devoid of that.

@streamline: I just want at least a reference to one scientific theory rather than saying this is what happened. Scientific theories are refuted & updated all the time so stating any theory as proven fact involves misunderstanding what science actually is.

Today we have people living in cities using smart phones & flying on jets but we also have people living in caves & jungles still living rather "primitive" lives. What's to say past societies didn't also have more advanced technologies along side less developed ones? There are plenty of examples where a society has developed advanced stone working technologies but the knowledge has been lost. I've seen some pretty amazing stuff in South America where megalithic structures have been built with stone that comes from miles away. In European history we have the Dark Ages, a "record" of the loss of records, in Central America we just have a bunch of thousand year old pyramids & only guesses as to why people stopped living there.

Anyway, I don't want to go on about conspiracy theories or whatever, you can look up Olmec heads or the Etruscans or Asian & African looking carved heads in the Andes in your own time. All I'm saying is that there are plenty of alternate history theories & plenty of evidence that puts the current "official timeline" into question. I like to take it all with a grain of salt, I'm not going to be the guy that claims any of these theories are true; I just like people to acknowledge that a lot of the more accepted theories have plenty of holes in them.

@ginobili1: Yep, there wasn't even any science here.

Humans were around for 3.5 million years & never invented anything beyond some spears & stuff? Humans who were as intelligent as us today but just didn't have time to settle anywhere? OK, show me the evidence. I'm not trying go all "the Earth is only 3,500 years old" or anything, I just want to see some evidence when you make a scientific claim.

I'm not sure what to think about this. As a long time Hitman fan, I love the hard-as-nails gameplay that leaves you replaying & replaying a level until you get your Silent Assassin hit & then moving on to the next level. Blood Money had some cool stuff that was fun to do as well like exploding barbecues, even if that wasn't the optimal way to go undetected. One-time hits are all about pressure, not fun. I claim to enjoy video games, not be really good at them.

I guess it's a way to keep the hardcore guys going after the story is over (or while waiting for the next episodic chunk) & I can't blame them for trying to get some longevity out of their game but I don't know if this is for me.

He's good but overrated. Kojima needs more reigning in if anything.

Yeah, his studio will probably make some cool stuff but he tends to go a bit too far with his ideas. MGS would be a great stealth series if the story wasn't so ridiculous. Sure, many will argue it's still great despite the story & characters & some more will argue that it's great because of them... but they're wrong.

OK, slight trolling there, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However Kojima games could be much more mainstream if they weren't so, so ridiculous. What was that nonsense about being ashamed of our actions & deeds when we learned the reason for Quiet looking the way she does? Kojima is completely disconnected from reality & would make much better games if he had characters that people could actually connect with to really solidify the gameplay.

Yep, Konami are dicks. Just watch any Jim Stirling video & it won't take much convincing. But what if there was someone else who could take his ideas, funnel them through some common sense & make them into something really amazing? Time will tell if going out on his own is the right step (it's probably the best thing he can do at this point in his career) but I just have the feeling that there's somebody out there who could make a better Kojima game than Kojima.

Go on, tell me why I'm wrong. Or agree with me if you can stand the fanboy rage.
