It entertains me to see all of the hipster douchebags acting like Cod is so awful just because it has had mainstream success. These are the same attention seekers who make sure to listen to the most obscure bands they can find, and pontificate on how pedestrian everyone else is. Don't worry guys. In a few years Cod won't be as popular. Then you can buy a tshirt from Hot Topic and feel superior while playing your imported Jrpgs.
Why does everyone keep pretending that depression is a disease that should be cured? With the exception of true clinical depression, which stems from physiological problems such as chemical and hormone imbalance, most depression is a normal and healthy part of life. Depression forces one to introspect, find the source, and change their behavior. We live in a paradigm where sadness and grief are considered "disorders" simply because we are too lazy to get off of our asses, accept responsibility for our actions and behavior, and change. Like I said, some depression is an actual medical problem, but the VAST majority of so called "depression" is a bunch of spoiled, first world crybabies lamenting the fact that life isn't fair. Btw, in the case of true clinical depression, video games, booze, or drugs are all just different forms of escapism. All equally useless, and detrimental.
I never claimed to know EVERY Nintendo fan. I clearly stated that these people are in the MINORITY. The only reason to be offended by my comments would be if you were one. I apologise for offending you. I'm sure that once you wiggle into your Yoshi or Peach costume and have a nice cold Capri Sun, and then a nap, you'll feel better.
I see posts on several sites claiming that Nintendo just didn't listen to their fans. In my opinion this is a misconception. Just like every other Nintendo console of the 10 years, their primary demographic has been children. As you would expect, most kids don't spend all day spamming the company with suggestions. Personally, my kids don't have any interest in the Wii I bought them. The Nintendo fan base has been hijacked by 25 and 30 year old manboys who are caught up in a perpetual adolescence. These are the same GROWN men who spend their weekends prancing around in Mario costumes. These people are in the minority of gamers, but they are the loudest. Unfortunately, Nintendo is under the impression that this is therefore their target demographic. While these dorks, like Apple fanboys, will buy anything with a Nintendo sticker on it, ther simply is not enough of them to profit from. For Nintendo to remain successful, they need to concentrate on their REAL demographic, which is children. They need games that kids want. I volunteer at my kid's school, and trust m, the vast majority of the kids I talk to could give a shit less about a bunch of tired Mario and Zelda rehashes. Sorry for the long winded comment.
