@probable: Yup... You are trying to start a console war, and its not necessary. Xbox is trying new things and that is a good thing. Sony is doing what always does and is also ok...
@illegal_peanut: "(It obviously shows you know nothing of making a film.)"
Maybe... but all my points are very simple, I have a feeling that you are the one not seeing the problem. The problem is not changing things, its to change the soul of the story you are trying to tell.
1. There is no limitation on this point. They could do "multiple stories" with different characters (all inside the mansion). TWD is a good example of what I´m talking about. To be respectful with the source material does not mean to do the movie exactly as the game.
2. And why not just add good dialogue? I don't get what they have to be "cheesy"... I have a feeling that all your points mean an exact copy of the game... and that was not what I said...
3. No... All you need is the huge mansion and the lower levels. It would be easy to do...
4. "The story needs A LOT of reworks." Agree... But you don't need to change the core of the narrative or some of the characters motivations.
The main idea is still an outbreak, the limitation of control and the greed... Themes like attacking "American states or countries under the US's protection"... lets just say is saturated theme...
5. "Realism... It's just not there with RE." Nor with Batman and Nolan did it... Its always the story and the people directing that will define the quality of the movie.
6. "Because RE characters straddle a fine line of creepy/believable & Corny/Oversexualized"
Is complex theme for me. On one hand I don't need supermodels playing the part, but I want the most accurate person to embody the character. Chris, Jill, Leon and Claire don't provide great diversity, but then we have Carlos, Ada (my favourite),Sheva , Luis Sera... diversity that comes along with time. Also, to force visual changes is to lose the essence of the characters.
@illegal_peanut: "RE is kind of impossible to make a good movie or show for."
I have to disagree. Any game or book (even if mediocre) can be turned into an awesome movie. Same goes on the other direction, even an awesome book or a great game can be made into an horrible movie.
The last RE movie tries to have a more intertwined connection to the games, but again it loses direction.
If you allow me, just an idea:
1.Same characters (sorry but no diversity, there is enough diversity in RE - Ok, latter on, but there is),
2.first movie centred in the mansion and lower levels, survival/horror/thriller movie, no superhero moves, just pure survivalism.
3. CGI to the minimum, practical effects as the core.
4. Story built upon the team, the bond between them and the betrayal.
5. Good dialogue and tension moments.
6. Build firmly the foundations to new movies.
Example: PHONE BOOTH (all you need is good actors and good writing to put the simplest situation as something brutal and compelling.)
Obviously, it sold less than the first game... but... that just means its a more selective game. Nothing more. The first game (my nº1 game) is perfect in all aspects, yet, it is not a game who challenges the player emotionally (from a negative point of view). Almost everything ends ok and its a easy story (linear) to digest. TLOU2 is way much more demanding, and that leads to a different kind of reactions.
"I've played the entire game through three times..."
Then what can I say? Play TLOU1 again? Because like I said, this game shows more love towards Joel than TLOU1 ever did. But hey, if you think I´m wrong, we can compare both storylines and how Joel is presented in different lights...
Funny thing, I just need the last flashback to make my point, but if we go bit by bit... Oh boy...
