@Utnayan: um, have you actually PLAYED any Ubisoft games since FC3?
No, they aren't a Naughty Dog or a Rockstar. But they aren't trying to be either. Compared to the other similar companies/publishers like EA and Activision, they are the ones taking the risks with new ideas and supporting their games long term.
Ubisoft gets a lot of crap, and not without reason, but they've been putting out some really solid work the last couple years, especially compared to the other big AAA devs/publishers. They definitely earned some of their bad rep, but they've come a long way and I think a lot of the critique is becoming outdated.
I think FC5 is almost certainly not going to meet my expectations narratively, but it looks fun as heck and presenting their mapmaker in this way is awesome.
Wow. yep. This could (and likely now will) serve as a prime example of blatant copyright infringement. It's a shame that Disney's vendor wasn't professional enough to contract Hachim Bahous to work with them - it's a cool look. Can't imagine what they were thinking doing this for such a high profile project. Bahous was all bu guaranteed to see these.
Unless there is some significant information left out of this, this is a cut-and-dry-case.
@DABhand: This is one of the most cut-and-dry examples of infringement I've ever seen. I'd encourage you to go look up some past precedents, you might be surprised at what you see.
There is simply no way the Vendor behind the Solo art did not see these Jazz covers and take direction from them. The Solo posters lift nearly every single design element from them.
I'm a graphic artist at a company that creates art for hospitality and leisure businesses. I deal with this kind of thing ALL the time. This is absolutely infringement.
@esqueejy: He was the lone wolf and died. They are a pack and are surviving. The pack issued the sentence. The pack wielded the (tiny) sword. They didn't violate his teaching - they improved on it. I think he'd be proud of them.
@Janpieterzun: "If they aren't made examples of, the industry will never learn."
Uh, they WERE made an example of, and they've been working over the past year improving the game. Every part of this game has been touched and made better since release. It still might not be what you thought or hoped it would be, but I'd would much rather see a dev work to make something better than abandon it as a failure.
Hello Games is not the only party at fault for this game's terrible 9and it was terrible) media cycle leading to launch. But if the industry doesn't at least acknowledge the work theyve put it since then and give them the thumbs up for that work, then we create an excuse for other devs to not try in the future.
I'll always recognize someones efforts to improve and make good on mistakes. Its the only way people will even try.
