Phenomenal success for their first large title, something not as accessible for newcomers and released in a very competitive year...248 GOTY awards so far.
And the amount of butt hurt it provokes, makes it all the sweeter. :P
Please Eddie, give us more articles about it and further rub it in... I want to see their heads explode!
@bluefox755: Yep, for all the precision and more play styles of Dark Souls, Witcher annihilates it in the most important element of all: FUN. Dancing with your blades and blowing the shit out of bandits with grenades never gets old. I played a lot of more complex and refined action games, but almost none were anywhere close to being as enjoyable.
I love seeing the same, the few and the butthurt, still crying for months about Witcher, leaving their precious games in the dust. Please gamespot, do another article about it and further rub it in!
@ninboxstation: You're fanboying this game so much it's pretty damn funny.
How is a gunfight with simplistic AND buggy, unresponsive AI an "Epic" combat? I've just replayed Aliens Vs, Predator, a very solid FPS from 2010 and compared to this game it is a decade ahead when it comes to first person shooter mechanics. Hell, xenos have a faster and more adaptive AI than half the enemies in this game combined.
@ninboxstation: No... they have improved a few aspects of combat but to call it great is absurd.
Enemies on higher difficulties don't have better AI or tactics, they are simply HP bullet sponges...sometimes you need to shoot a raider six times in the head with a shotgun at point blank. Their AI is far too often either retarded, passive and slow to respond of throws around infinite amount of grenades directly at your location. Sometimes you can even run up to them thinking they're friendlies because it takes them a few seconds to respond. Cover system is very buggy and they often try take cover on objects that don't provide it, like fences etc...
And there is little variety of them.
Companion AI is hands down atrocius and more of a hindrance, far too often...still getting stuck in doors and unable to move out of your way.
Weapon occupy huge amount of space on the screen,,,with recoil from large weapons, you cannot even "see" what you're shooting in front of you. Ironically, they magically disappear when holstered in third person view.
VATS is still clumsy as ever.
Legendary enemies "mutation/healing" is nothing but a cheesy way to prolong combat...they don't have better or more complex AI.
And melee combat is even worse and feels more clumsy than in Skyrim. Plus the animations are still an obvious issue, like in all Bethesda games.
They've improved the sounds a fair bit, added more recoil ( so now it actually feels like a gun) and improved movement of enemies, so (non humans, at least) they don't just charge in straight line...overall a solid, but unexceptional shooter with AI being largest hindrance to game play.
And I found Bloodborne the most tedious, boring video game experience ever created. But I don't consider it even worth mentioning in discussions that are about OTHER games.
What you are really saying is that you need to shit on another, to prove to everyone that your toy is better.
What you don't get is that..nobody cares. Play the games for your own enjoyment, people and stop turning this into your private dick size content over Internet.
@bud-wiser: This is Dragon Age II deja vu, all over again.
Seriously, did anyone expect Bethesda to build this on New Vegas?
Like it or not, is their choice of how they design their games...you buy it or you don't. But these 0's seem like complaining about ordering a pizza and not getting a hamburger.
