If you don't want to pay a few bucks for FRAPS then use XFires' in game video recording. It has the ability to record at HD resolutions/quality.

A friend of mine played through but he's actually color blind so he always struggled with the datapad. I felt really bad when he explained that he was having a hard time with it and I said, "Oh it's easy you just match the colors...oh...Nevermind." Awkward!saruman354
That is the problem I have with the hacking mini game - I am partially color blind and it can be difficult for me to discern which code block is the right one :/ I much prefer ME 1's hacking system - there was a single mini game instead of 2 and you could always override with Omni-Gel

That is very odd - it isn't a Windows 7 problem, that is for sure (unfortunately :/) What AV suite do you have? Try setting it to ignore the Morrowind folder (This is just a suggestion, I don't know if it will help at all). Do you have any file monitoring/disk cleanup software running resident? Something like an automatic mirror update, windows Defrag, etc - possibly disk access issues. Do you have another drive on the computer you could test something on? I am thinking to do the following: - Back up your currently installed Steam games (either with the in Steam utility, or by manually copying the entire Steamapps folder to a safe location) - Uninstall Steam - Install Steam again, but this time to a different drive (or even just a different folder) - Copy your backed up games to the new steam location - Run steam and let it "update" the games (all it will do is re-verify their location and files and update its internal configurations properly - only bad files/missing files will be replaced and redownloaded) Getting into more drastic measures: Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (Hold down Shift when starting the computer - I think this still brings up the Windows Boot Options menu if done in time, hitting F8 quickly after POST might work too - haven't had to do it with Windows 7 so I don't know if MS changed anything about it. You could also "force" the menu to show by forcing your PC to shut off without shutting down windows (generally hold the power button until the machine turns off). Try running the game in Safe Mode - if it runs then you likely are having driver issues (narrowing down which driver becomes a painful process unfortunately :() Lastly I also suggest running the Windows Scan Disk utility (check the option for Attempt to Fix Bad Sectors and the one for data recovery) - it is entirely possible you have some bad sectors. Lots of random stuff in my post above that may, or may not, do anything for you - hope we can get it sorted out :) [not just because Morrowind is a great game, but because the symptoms are endemic of a possibly bigger problem overall]

Steam already had them on sale during their Holiday Blitz I think, thus I doubt they will be going back on sale anytime soon (though you never know with Steam). Some decisions have big impacts on gameplay (completely changing NPC's you interact with), some have little nostalgic impacts (you get emails from certain people) and dialogue changes (mainly with Tali, but a slight change with either Kaiden or Ashley on Horizon). We don't know for sure which changes, if any, will have much impact on the 3rd game right now - it is thought that even little ones will add up to bigger things in the last game of the trilogy (eg - the Rachni queen decision, the choice about an Asari on Virmire, the Wrex decision, the choices regarding Tali, the choice on the final ME 2 mission, etc).

When you finish ME 1 it creates an "End Game" save file. You can then import this save to ME 2 by using the configuration utility (click Configure on the ME 2 launcher, then Save Games, then Copy Mass Effect 1 Saves - it will only copy End Game saves). When you launch ME 2 you will have an option to start a new game by importing ME 1 character data. Most choices just carry over as minor cameos - some carry over into actual content differences (Wrex, The Council, Class, etc). You also get a bonus for importing an ME 1 character.

The only Morrowind Pack Steam has is the GOTY edition. Easy way to check is to launch the game, if your launcher shows the titles of both of the expansions then you have GOTY - the title of the game in Steam just says Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - nothing about GOTY in the title.

Its odd that it is crashing on you. Have you tried using the Disable Desktop Composition compatibility setting? Maybe something with Aero is messing it up?

What resolution are you running it at? I use the FPS optimizer to modify the registry values to bring the game resolution up to my desktop resolution (you can also just search the registry for the proper keys, or use the Morrowind Graphics Extender - all I use the FPS optimizer for is modifying that registry entry, I don't leave it running in the background or anything).

Look in the program folder (Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\morrowind) and see if there is an error log file or something.

You could also check the Windows Event Log to see if any errors/warnings were logged about Morrowind.

Have you installed the latest DirectX 9.0c redistributable? (Get the directx web updater from Microsoft's support site, it is better at finding missing dependencies than the installer Steam calls as part of its pre-requisites).

Hope it gets all worked out :) - I still find Morrowind fun after all of these years. Of course, I am not much for flashy graphics - the gameplay is solid for me.

Edit:

Also - did you just Install the MCP or did you actually run it and apply the patch? I had to install it, copy the files from the folder it put them in to the main Morrwind application folder, and then run and patch the executable that way. When you launch you sould see a version # in the bottom left corner that says MCP X.XX [where X.XX is the version of MCP]

Hrm - no issues with that sort of crash on Exit on my Win 7 Pro x64 machine - and I don't bother setting any compatibility options. I do, however, use the Morrowind Code Patch (which is compatible with the Steam version) - maybe try that? I don't remember if I had crashing issues before I started using the MCP - my memory isn't as good as it used to be :/.

FRAPS is worth every penny - free upgrades for the life of the product, good customer service, and a good app. If you don't want to purchase something (or you have an irrational attitude and go off the hinge when you find you have to pay for something) then try using XFire's in game video recording.

I tried it out when they first put it up on GamersGate - it is not good from my experience. The client seems to be a resource hog, the overlay works in fewer games than XFire (From my experience) and the installer forces you to install some special graphic driver software for it to run. I don't trust anything that installs a driver I have no need for. My suggestion is: skip it completely. If you feel like trying it then walk into it with your eyes open.
