If I let other people's opinions chart my gaming course then I wouldn't have played any real interesting games. The best course is to wait for the game to arrive and make your own judgement. It is likely that some people were expecting Dungeon Keeper Reborn rather than a game that makes an homage to it.

GFWL does not manage all Fallout 3 saves (this is a myth I keep seeing pop up in threads). If GFWL is enabled (and logged in) then it will ride on top of Fallout 3's save system and redirect it to look in My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves/[GFWL Profile Name]. Save games are not stored online. GFWL is not needed in order to play Fallout 3 or save games. (I play with it disabled to use more advanced mods). Since the OP is now running Fallout 3 w/ GFWL installed and (apparently) logging in, the save games need to be copied from the default save location to the location that GFWL expects them to be [in other words, they have to be copied from My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves to My Documents/My Games/Fallout 3/Saves/[GFWL Profile Name]]

There is a bug in the accounting system with Live accounts. Accounts that revert from paid XBL Gold to Silver XBL/GFWL are locked out for at least 30 calendar days after the last payment (or payment attempt for NSF transactions). I had this happen to me when I Cancelled my XBL account (I never used it, I activated it for my classic XBox and it was a waste of money for me) - I couldn't log into GFWL for a month (give or take) after the last transaction/cancellation. You could try calling Live support and seeing if they can unlock the silver level (Since its free), but I don't know how quickly that would be resolved. Easiest [and quickest] method is to create a new GFWL account.

Spot on reply, just want to add that they recently changed their minimum specs (they tweaked them upward). Really need to head over to the EVE site and see what the new specs are (fan sites and game info sites may have out of date information). EVE is a great game if you can get past the learning curve (which, actually, has been made easier recently with learning skill removal and a few other tweaks). If I had spare money for a monthly sub I would be back playing it in a heartbeat.

[QUOTE="ttomm1946"]

1)..will my low spec computer run it ok..intel 2.66 ghz cpu...1gb of ram...a nvidia 6200 pci..No agp slot or express....Win Xp?

2)I'm an older game and am looking for something immersive and not too twitch based...

3)Depth?

thanks in advance:D

mrbojangles25

1. Yes, I think so. Its not a demanding game, despite looking beautiful. Might want to check out the official specs though, just in case.

2. Absolutely. EVE is not twitch based at all, the whole game can be played with mouse alone (outside of socializing, that is). You dont even need to fight in the game, you can just cruise around, mine, etc.

3. Incredibly deep...one of the richest MMOs in existence.

EVE is an awesome game, especially if youre looking for one a bit more methodical and slower paced. It was a little too slow for me, but the fact a small develper can create something so fantastic is really neat.

Highly recommend it.

I went into Services (as well as Boot Programs) and disabled all of the Windows Live programs. I don't use it, and I don't have any games that depend on it.

Windows Live just eats up RAM if you aren't using it.:P

BioWare did it right with DA:O - you only need to go online to update your achievements as you wish, or to install a new DLC - you aren't forced to do it.

Though some folks, like myself, have issues with needing to be online on game startup no matter what - otherwise the DLC becomes de-authorized and unusable :/. As to the OP: GFWL adds un-needed overhead to games (and a further requirement for users to deal with for patching). The matchmaking is optimized for consoles, not for PC's and thus it doesn't ever seem to quite work (imo). It probably doesn't help that MS basically treats the GFWL codebase like a red-headed/half-mutant stepchild.

Ah opinion, both the bane and savior of many games. Opinions differ. No matter how unbiased reviewers try to be, they still inflect their opinion on reviews. No matter how unbiased players try to be, their opinion will come through in talking about the games they play. Not everyone has to like a game for it to be good [and, conversely, not everyone has to hate a game for it to be bad]. Good & Bad are subjective, there is no "Golden Rule" of what makes games good or bad - just peoples opinions. That all said I wish I could try out NV - but absolutely no free cash for frivolities means I cannot :/. FO 3 wasn't the best game in the world for me, but it was a decent game (as long as I don't try to compare it to my enjoyment of FO 1 + 2), FO:NV is closer to the storyline of FO 1 & 2 so I would love to get into it just to experience that.

[QUOTE="Kasin666"]Thanks for great ideas. I have another question. Is there a way to use the on-screen keyboard (the Wndows one) in game window ? It would be very helpful because I can't even start a multiplayer game in Heroes III as the game wants me to input the player names. Copy/paste doesn't work.

AFAIK the on screen keyboard doesn't work with any full screen graphical app (eg: games) [well, it might work sporadically with some but it was never intended to be a full keyboard replacer]. A quick google brought up some sites talking about such software to make things easier on people with disabilities. One such site even takes games into account: http://www.ablegamers.com/hardware-news/on-screen-keyboard-review-we-break-them-down.html

The older Infinity Engine games should work ok in that situation (with Auto-Pause enabled on Enemy Spotted and whatnot, and possibly a tweak to disable the pause turning off in inventory). BG 1 + TotSC, BG 2 + ToB, Icewind Dale 1 + HoW, Icewind Dale 2 Most turn based strategy should work. The main problem I see is the lack of RMB/LMB (unless you can simulate both mouse buttons somehow) for certain situations [like showing description dialogs in the BG/IW games].

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"][QUOTE="Twisted14"]I just find it annoying to have to go through its rather slow login so I can play each time I open a game. mkaliaz

Can't you use it OFFLINE, for quicker login?

Offline doesn't work for some (maybe all?) titles. I know that for Gears of War, my save information was all saved online. I think Fallout 3 might be like this to. The load game buttons are not able to be pressed until it finishes loging into GFWL.

I might be wrong, but this is what I remember.

Actually what GFWL does is shove save games & DLC into a sub folder (sometimes hard to find) that can only be accessed by the game when GFWL is logged in. On some games it is easy to bypass this by moving games to a game recognized location (eg %DOCUMENTS%\My Games\Fallout 3\Saves instead of %DOCUMENTS\My Games\Fallout 3\Saves\[GFWL User ID]) and then either playing offline or disabling GFWL [For fallout 3 you can just search fallout3nexus.com for a disabler and do it that way]. The reason save games seem to "disappear" on people w/ GFWL games is because they have either gone offline in GFWL or gone online after being offline - this kicks in the redirection of the games save feature. My main beef with GFWL is that A) it isn't really needed and adds another layer of annoyance to some games (DoW 2), and B) It has a history of not performing well during update processes. As a side note: Microsoft didn't try charging for MP with its first iteration of GFWL - it just locked many MP features behind the Gold level pay wall. If you were a GFWL Silver member [free] then you had access to only basic MP match search options [I think it was auto search only, no custom search], no ranked matches, etc.

Shouldn't be. XFire saves both RAW and Codec Compressed [default XFire codec is H.264 I believe] versions of videos you record, you would use the RAW AVI file in Adobe Premiere. You can view the raw files in your Recorded Videos tab of XFire under Local Videos I believe. In my eyes the full version of FRAPS is still the best though.
