@Eagllefirestorm No. That makes zero sense at all. Why would they implement the new controller at a later date? That would be far worse. They are designing games with features that will require a new controller. Therefore, you can't use the old one.
When you bought a new Nintendo console, you never had the option of using an old controller. People are acting like this is something that's owed to them. They never should have allowed it in the first place, this conversation wouldn't even be happening.
The concept of the controller is already evolved. It has new features that the old one doesn't, therefore it's time to retire the old one.
@Nafe Then get out and go play on your PC. You aren't even making an argument, you're just spewing nonsense. It's not nickel-and-diming, that would only be true if they didn't give you a controller at all. When you buy the console, a controller will be in the box. Want a second one? Buy it. Stop acting like they owe you something. Smarten up.

@Eagllefirestorm Like I said 100 times, why would they put so much time and money into designing a new controller, only to tell the world the old one will work just as well? And I'm not certain why the consumer 'should be' able to use the old controller when games will be designed to support the new one?
Besides, the amount of games and whatnot that you buy on launch day is entirely up to you. You could leave one of the games on the shelf and buy the controller instead. Like I said, people won't hesitate to buy the games, but can't afford a controller.
People are willing to drop $60 time and time again for new games, shell out whatever for DLC, etc... but as soon as they can't use their old controller, they become certified accountants and refuse to spend the money on the new one because 'they can't afford it'.
@n0matter How do you know the touchpad won't be required to play some games? And what money are you talking about? At some point, you HAD to buy a second controller. You didn't magically create one that works on whatever console or PC you use right now. In fact, if you use a PC, it didn't ship with a controller at all, so you had to buy at least one.
Being unable to use your old peripherals is a useless argument. If you don't want the console, don't buy one. Don't pretend controller BC is a deal-breaker, it's never mattered in the past.
@Blue-N-Yellow Just keep your PS3... if you decide you want a PS4 later on for PS4 games, buy one then.
I don't know what the obsession is with BC. You've had all this generation to play current gen games. Sony isn't releasing a whole new console just so people can play the old stuff.
