Have you tried switching to a different download server in steam ? In the steam client go to the steam tab and select settings. In the new box that comes up click on the downloads and cloud tab. You should see an option to change your download region server. just click the down arrow and choose another location. I know it says it autodetects the "best one" but I have found that to be a load of rubbish. I am routinely connected to the London server yet the closest to me is actually the Manchester server.

At any rate it might be worth a try after the christmas sales. Things will undoubtedly be slow at the moment with millions of people taking advantage of the sales. Having said that though I have never really had any problem with download speeds outside of the sales and usually get my full 800k speed. Whilst it is fair to say that Steam has a much larger customer base (well over 30 million compared to Origin's 5 million) outside of the sales I don't think it has a huge bearing on the overall download speed of steam.

So, basically, you were bothered by the fact that people claimed that they said that the PC is an inferior platform. Is it that, or are you simply inferring from their actions?The_Capitalist

No I am bothered that when they cancelled the PC version in favour of the Xbox 360 version that was a clear signal that my money was not good enough for them.

At any rate, it's better to have a game than to have no game at all. I wouldn't say that Remedy has sunk as low as Ubisoft yet.The_Capitalist

I wouldn't say it is better to have a game than have no game at all. By the time this game comes out it will be nearly 2 years old, no one will care about it. I actually consider doing such a late port of Alan Wake now as a complete and utter waste of time, energy and resources. If Remedy is serious about getting back onto the PC gaming platform then they would be better advised to use the time/resources they are wasting on a 2 year old console port into making a fresh new IP on the PC.

I don't the point. Are you telling us not to buy Alan Wake because of Remedy's so-called betrayal? Is this what this fuss boils down to?

The_Capitalist

I am not telling anyone to do anything, if you want the game then buy it, if you don't then don't buy it. I am just mentioning the reasons why I personally will not be buying Alan Wake. I want to encourage good service on the PC and discourage bad service on the PC. The only way I can do that is with my wallet. That is why when a company releases a decent product on the PC at the same time as the consoles they get my money and naturally when a company like Remedy brings a 2 year old port of a console game doesn't get my money.

This thread is great for laughs, calling Alan Wake a Cash Grab and then supporting the new Need For Speed, AC and latest COD games? :lol:kozzy1234

I haven't bought a Need For Speed game since the second one they released, I refuse to touch anything by Ubisoft and the last COD game I purchased was Call Of Duty 4. So no I don't support blatant quick cash grabs.

put it on xbox first then so be it, your missing out a good game.kozzy1234

That isn't what happened though is it. They didn't "put it on the xbox first" they CANCELLED the PC version and then tried to persuade us all that if we ever wanted to play Alan Wake we would have to own a console.

Are people going to pull this same BS if Rockstar puts the new GTA on PC late again? or if they decide to finally port Red Dead Redemption to PC?kozzy1234

I can't speak for other people but I know I will. I have yet to purchase the DLC because of this rubbish. I will only purchase GTA 5 if they actually do a good job on the PC version this time and it sees a same day release as the console versions. That is the kind of service I expect in this day and age. I would've thought most PC gamers would expect that level of service too, but I have forgotten we are meant to be ever so grateful for the crumbs that we get these days . There are far too many companies competing for my money for me to waste money on year old ports of yesterday's stuff.

Lulz...wat? Honestly, why do you assume it's your right to get every single game ever made for consoles also on PC and without any delay? Where did you get this idea.AdrianWerner

Lulz....wat? no I don't assume I have a right to get every single game ever made for consoles also on the PC without any delay (I never said that). The PC version of Alan Wake was cancelled and statements were put out clearly saying that the Xbox 360 was the superior platform to play Alan Wake on and PC gamers were silly to expect a game like Alan Wake on their "intimate" platform.

Why would anyone even consider buying Alan Wake on the PC ? We have been clearly told that the PC platform is an inferior platform for a game such as Alan Wake. So if all you care about is the actual game then surely you should be playing it on the Xbox 360 because that is where it is meant to be played apparently.

While I don't exactly agree with what Remedy did, it's good to see that they are actually making a port and I think most people (as always) are over reacting. Why do you think PC gamers always get called crybabies? Because of silly stuff like this. If you don't want it, don't buy it. Don't come here and complain.

agpickle

No people are not over reacting over what Remedy has done here. Firstly they clearly told PC gamers that their money was not good enough for them. Then they conned people into thinking that Alan Wake was an exclusive to the Xbox 360 and if you ever wanted to play the game then you would have to buy an Xbox 360. They did all this because they felt that the PC platform was not worth supporting compared to the Xbox platform which apparently is paved with gold (yeah they found out that wasn't the case).

Now if people want to call this "PC gamers being cry babies" then I would say that is a reflection on their immaturity and the fact they do not understand the issues involved. As for buying Alan Wake, I did want it, I was going to buy it but then they told me my money wasn't good enough for them. So no I am not going to buy a 2 year old console port when there will be dozens of other games from other developers that DO appreciate my custom and the revenue the PC platform provides.

Oh and one other thing, don't tell me that I shouldn't "come here and complain" this is an open forum for the discussion of PC gaming issues.

If Remedy is a business then I suggest PC gamers start acting like customers. This "business" said to PC gamers they were not interested in our custom because they felt they could make more money on the consoles. That naturally didn't happen and now they are providing us with a 2 year old port of a game and will no doubt expect us to pay full price for it.

If a company tells me they don't want my money, then good luck to them trying to get me to buy their products at a later date when their "great plan" blows up in their face and they find they do want my money. There will be plenty of games released at the same time as Alan Wake on the PC, I for one will make sure my money goes to the companies that show commitment to the PC platform and actually WANT my money.

said a Microsoft spokesperson.Elann2008

I would imagine for some people they would see Remedy complicit with what Microsoft said. Yes it was Microsoft that said that rubbish but Remedy didn't deny it. Personally I don't care who said what, when, where or why. In my books actions speak louder than words. Both Remedy and Microsoft showed us that 9 months ago they were not the least bit interested in our money. I don't care what excuses they have, both Remedy and Microsoft chose to use Alan Wake as a lever to try and get PC gamers to invest in a console.

Now 9 months on with the console version pretty much a failure in sales terms all of a sudden they are interested in our money. All of a sudden the PC is no longer too "intimate" a platform for Alan Wake. As I said in an earlier post, I do not appreciate being treated like a second ****customer. If Remedy was to produce a new IP and release both the PC and 360 version at the same time I would of course be interested. However I am not interested in a 9 month old hand me down from the Xbox 360.

Since I don't live in the US then I will go with Steam because at least Steam acknowledges and caters for PC gamers that do not live in the US. I also wouldn't trust EA one little bit with my digital purchases and I don't approve of what they are using their client for

Anyways, I seem to be one of the only ones around here who remember how these guys treated us PC gamers. No way they are getting any of my money.therealFrek

I wouldn't say you are the only one, I myself have stated that "I do not appreciate being treated as a second class customer". No I have no intention of giving Remedy my money as I said in my post there are plenty of companies out their fighting for the PC gamers custom and not just throwing us the "breadcrumbs from the table" as Remedy seem to be doing. Remedy choose to go the console route because it was a "sure thing" and they lost big time, well as the old saying goes "you made your bed now lie in it".

I would also say that the reaction to this news about Alan Wake has so far been treated with a collective "meh". So whilst most probably don't feel as strong as say you or I about the way Remedy handled things alot feel that what Remedy are now offering isn't all that worthy anyway.
