Bet it's exclusive to the consoles and some smart arse from Lucasarts will say something really stupid like "our new generic hack and slash game is not on the PC because you would need a $16,000 PC to play it". The days I get excited about something from Lucasarts are long since passed.

If the decision to release Alan Wake rests on Microsofts shoulders then I think we can pretty much rule out any chance of a PC release. You just need to look at Microsofts history to see they are sacrificing PC gaming to push their console. If Alan Wake is a success on the Xbox 360 then you won't see it on the PC, if Alan Wake is a failure on the Xbox 360 then you won't see it on the PC.

The smart course of action is to just accept that for all intents and purposes Alan Wake on the PC has been cancelled.

can u give me the link and tell me how to install it coz i never installed A mod before ?????

GunGrave47

You can find out more information about the EnvMod and how to install it by going here . There are a couple of cool videos on that link too showing the mod in action. Installation wise it is easy you just unrar and copy a few files over. However the important thing is to make a backup of your entire GTA 4 folder before you do it. Then if something goes wrong with the mod you can just put the original files back. It is relatively simple to do as long as you follow the instructions clearly.

I think it's preference between the two. The Env mod seems to remove the height fogs from the default GTA IV, resulting in a crisper image but also looking rather plain and empty.OoSuperMarioO

You probably knocked it on the head there, it is a matter of preference. I owned GTA 4 on the xbox 360 (yeah I was the one that got duped into thinking it wouldn't come to the PC). I hated the Vaseline blur, in my view that god awful blur should be deemed as a crime against humanity. When the PC version came out I was over the moon (or would be if the moon actually existed in the PC version) that they removed the blur. However I still felt it was overly obscured and too "undefined" in places.

I like my graphics crisp and sharp, probably one of the reasons I have remained a PC gamer all of these years. The EnvMod gives me what I crave for and to me makes the game run "smoother". It certainly looks better than max settings on vanilla GTA 4 to me at least. But hey that is the beauty of GTA 4 on the PC you get the choice, you can try the mod and if you don't like it you can remove it.

OK firstly I am NOT talking about the ENB series mod by Boris I was never a big fan of that mod on GTA SA and I am even less of a fan of his new ENB series mod for GTA 4. I am talking about a totally different mod called "Environment Mod V5" which has been made by kriller2 at GTAF

As for the the screenshots, they were taken for use in another discussion about how different the console settings are to the PC version. That is why all the screenshots are at 1280 x 720 and the blur filter was enabled, I used to actually play the game at 1680 x 1050. Now I would quite happily redo the screenshots for you since you seem to think I have a "sinister" motive here. However I long since uninstalled this sorry excuse for a game that Rockstar put out and don't feel all that inclined to sit through installing the thing again.

At the end of the day if you don't believe me then that is up to you. I personally found the game looks much better and runs smoother using EnvMod with settings maxxed than it does using GTA 4 unmodded with settings maxxed. The only downside to the mod is no online play but then there are a) ways around that and b) GTA 4 PC online is a joke and not even worth bothering with due to all the cheating.

Glad I could help :D it really is silly the resource demands of this game (you need a video card with nearly 2gbs of Vram to max it out). If you are after making GTA 4 look better then a heartily recommend searcing for the Env Mod V5. I use the EnvMod V5 and the game looks pretty much fantastic, it looks how the game SHOULD look on the PC. Here are a few comparison shots for you :-

I think you will be able to tell which screenshots are without the mod and which were taken with the mod ;) . However just in case the blurred horrible ones are GTA 4 native and the nice crisp vibrant pics are thanks to the Env Mod.

I was in the beta of the game but it never did much for me, I just found the game to be a bit well erm dull. I imagine that along with the horrendous spec requirements will put a lot of people off. I just don't think the game has enough variety or interest for most PC gamers.

The reason you can't enable Very High Textures and High Shadows is down to your video ram. Your GPU only has 512mbs of ram the high textures alone will use 600mbs of video ram. You should only use high textures if you have a video card with 1gb or more of video ram.

Now having said that there are ways to do it, but it should be stressed that using these methods may be have a detrimental effect on your game. What you need to do is fool GTA 4 into thinking you have more video ram than you actually have.

The first thing you need to do is create a text file in your main GTA 4 folder and call the text file "commandline.txt" (without the quotes). Now open the commandline.txt file and enter the following exactly :-

-norestriction

Now save the text file and launch the game via the Rockstar Social Club application and you should find that you can now max all the settings out. However if you go too far you will experience things like bad pop up, missing textures and stuttering.

I personally use the commandline "-availablevidmem 2.0" myself which fools GTA 4 into using some system memory as video memory. You can find a list of the commandlines here :-
