why couldnt he run it? his specs meet the requirements as the CPU is concern. one thing ive learn is that steam always seem to match the requirement just right for your system, when compare to the box requirements of the games.

Rahnyc4

The system requirements are a complete and total load of bull for GTA 4. The minimum requirements that Rockstar list barely plays the game. The "recommended" requirements barely plays the game at 20fps on low settings with a res of 800 x 600. You can tell the specs are a lie since the minimum requirement is a 7900 yet the recommended is an 8600 ????? any one with an ounce of sense knows a 7900 beats the hell out of an 8600.

To be on the safe side if you want to play this game at "console quality" you will need a pretty fast core2duo (3ghz or better) and a 9600gt graphics card or better. That is just to run the game at console settings and a res of 1280 x 720, if you want to max GTA 4 out you are going to need a quadcore/i7 and a highend GTX285 card (even then it will dip to sub 20fps).

This game is a complete and utter turd in terms of optimisation and not even worth the $5 that steam are charging for it. The TC may get around 20/30fps on low to medium settings at 1280 x 720 and that is being optimistic.

Yeah I got to admit if this is the final day of the sale then they went out with a whimper and hardly a bang. Nothing there interests me. Oh well there is always next time.

I have to agree with the_ChEeSe_mAn2 Mass Effect was a pretty good port all things considered. I run the game at 1680 x 1050 all settings maxxed out and get a steady 60fps (Rockstar take note please). The only time I had a problem was when I did a botched overclocking, then I would get BSOD's whilst playing Mass Effect which were resolved when I screwed my head on right and did the overclock properly :D

I am not saying Mass Effect was a "perfect" port but it could have been a hell of a lot worse and they did put the time in to make the game PC friendly.

I haven't got ME installed on here yet from steam (had it running from the EA store but uninstalled it in preparation for getting the steam version). You are in the right area at least :D . I am 99% sure it is called Mass Effect.exe but where abouts in the Mass Effect folder it is I can't remember

Edit : ahhhhhh you have extensions turned off that will be why it doesn't say Mass Effect.exe and just says Mass Effect. To save time just drag a shortcut of Mass Effect to your desktop and launch it with that short cut. It's a bit amateur of EA to not patch their config program but then it is EA and to be expected.

Go to your steam folder, in your steam folder you will see a folder called "steam apps" open that up and you should see a folder called "common" click on that and you will see the Mass Effect folder. Open the Mass Effect folder and click on the Mass Effect.exe and that will start the game. You can change nearly all the graphical settings in the game so you aren't missing anything.

To make things easier you could just make a short cut to the Mass Effect.exe and plonk it on your desktop.

Keyboard and mouse all the way here, I used to be a massive GTA fan even bought a console to play GTA 4 and god knows how people can play that game with a joypad. Pretty much all the games I am interested in all benefit from the keyboard and mouse control it is one of the reasons why I have stayed with the PC. The kind of games that do benefit from a joypad such as beat em ups, hack and slash games and platformers hold no interest to me whatsoever.

Bit weak today I thought, still I did buy Mass Effect for £3, I already bought it from the EA store for £5. However the opportunity to have Mass Effect on steam along with all my other games was too much to resist for £3. It also means I can get rid of that EA downloader now since Mass Effect is the only game I have from the EA store. I wish they would add Mass Effect 2 to steam but I guess EA want to con people into getting it from their store ....... I will wait till it comes to steam thank you very much EA.

Think you are a bit late to the party this has been happening for a while now. I am a PC gamer of 20 years and the last time I went into a games shop was nearly 7 years ago (about the time steam started). I understand where you come from about "wanting a boxed copy" but really at the end of the day what do you get ? A crappy 25p DVD case, a manual on recycled toilet paper and a DVD that you will end up losing and can't then play the game.

It isn't like the old days when you would get lots of goodies with your game (not talking about collectors editions here). I remember the days when PC games came in chunky boxes and there was plenty included with the game to see and do whilst you waited for the install. Now a days the boxed copy is so pathetically weak that it is no surprise that downloading has taken off.

Yep the original Bioshock did have Dx10 ...... not that you noticed any difference between the Dx9 and Dx10 version mind you. I think it is highly highly unlikely that Bioshock 2 will have Dx11. I would say if anything it will even ditch Dx10 and just come out as a Dx9 game.
