@StokeMeAClipper: Not possible-- at least without a MAJOR patch from the original title developer that recodes core engine logic.

The emulation bottleneck is CPU.

X360 = 3 x 3.0 Ghz RISC cores

Xbone = 6 (available for emulation) x 1.75 Ghz x86 cores. As all major 360 libraries are compiled for CPU and then wrapped in a very 1:1 RISC->x86 layer, that precludes the possibility of running said libs via GPGPU. The overhead in taking RISC logic and turning it into something an Xbone GPU understands would leave no GPU available to do much of anything else. So while the GPU can do more-- it really can't because every engine loop on the 360 game is also invoking a ton of other libraries for game logic, middleware, etc. etc. The engines were coded to run at a specific refresh rate. So you could make the GPU part of the game loop more efficient and reduce frame-time, but in the end, when the loop comes back to doing a hard-coded call on PHYSX or HAVOK or what have you, the engine is going to run at the rate it was coded to run at. There may be a few games that were coded in a way that it could see improved framerates, but those would be early games that were not using a lot of RISC compute. They would also require significant patches, requiring months of a few AAA coder experience. If there was a ROI to be had, some shops may consider it, but really, it's not like there will be a run on KAMEO if they get it to run at 60 fps instead of 30 fps. There's no business case to justify the technical end.

The emulator on Xbone is ferociously efficient. Scary efficient. Probably the best RISC-x86 wrapper in existence. But the Xbone hardware can only do so much. If it were custom designed specifically for this, they could've made some architectural decisions that would've allowed it, but BC was an afterthought.

@demonkingx5: Trash? Those machines lasted longer than any previous generation. They were ahead of their time at launch and were able to admirably keep up with changes in the industry for a decade! The Xbone and PS4 will have to be refreshed in another 3 years. They have already hit the wall. The new systems are fun and all, but to call 360/PS3 trash shows how ignorant you are.

@Asharel No, they don't. You know what drags down quality? Money. Used to, in the early days of 3d, a single texture artist created a single 16 bit texture map. Then he had to create a texture map and a bump map. Then he had to create a texture map, bump map, normal map, specular map. Then he had to create a texture, normal, specular, AO, height, Tesselation map, then he had to worry about all this PBR stuff which required a single artist to become a team of artists and a materials developer. Things have already gotten out of hand. If anything, crap needs to slow down, middleware needs to mature, new standards need to emerge. Whats wrong with PCs getting Console quality at 4k60? That's right... nothing. And as for non-visual quality... accomodating PC is what has created the market trend that is day 1 patching and changelogs for console games. Consoles are a fixed spec to which a solution can be endlessly optimized to. PCs are inefficient by nature. In short, WAAAAAHHH
