XCOM Enemy Unknown memories

With XCOM making a comeback with the title XCOM Enemy Unknown on PC,PS3 and 360 I thought I'd share my memories on the series and what I really liked about the series.

I was first introduced to game XCOM Enemy Unknown on the PS1 and PC. For a turn based stratergy hater I actually really admired this game because you had to be on your game one false move could see you dead.

You had to take on a group of different Alien species with probably superior technology than you and it gave you a rubbish set of ammo to begin with to take down your first threat Sectoids who were the big headed Aliens. As you defeat Aliens and clear country of the threats you get rewarded if you ignore these threats these so called Aliens build bases and you get a monthly update and that can be sometime where the game could be over.

What also happens as they build bases which you can attack they can attack your bases and unless you have the right defenses you will struggle to hold off there attack. As you take down more Aliens other enemies enter the fray including Floaters,Snakemen,Mutons and Ethereals and sometimes these aliens bring in back up to help them like Snakemen were assisted by Chrysalids which were would turn enemies into zombies if they got in close and they also had alot of move points

Most of the assistants to these Aliens mostly appeared in Alien Terror Sites where they didn't have a base they just landed where they would attack humans and kill them. Back onto the topic of sidekicks you could acquire tanks such as a standard and even a Hovertank to aid you in battle. Also your weaponry would improve to Blasters,Plasmas and even Mind Control where you could take over the minds of Aliens.

To beat the game you had to stun an Alien Commander and research him to get to there Home Planet and destroy which was like a big Brain like creature.

One of the reasons I liked this game was because it was a Sci Fi game that really interested game because the first 2 Alien films are one of my favorites of all times and also your fighting a superior race and the technology they use like Mass Effect really another franchise I love. It was straight forward to get into whilst some might be turned off I got interested in it.

Now most of you might not know this but I have pre ordered the Elite Edition of the game and I am excited to get it and I am hoping to pump some alien butt. I know it will be different and it might take time to get use to how it plays but I am very interested to see what has changed. I know some of you will be getting it today I will be getting it on Friday.

Why can't some people just accept that Resident Evil 6 was garbage

This is gonna be my final topic on Resident Evil 6 until the end of the year when it will probably end up being my biggest dissapointment of the year. I have come across certain posts of people trying to defend the game and then having a dig at it's fanbase for wanting it to be like RE1,2,3 and Code Veronica. It's like people were saying stop living in the 90s fanboys but hang on a minute.

Hang on though the majority of the fans have Resident Evil 4 as their favorite in their eyes as the pinnacle of the series. I mean it's on many people best lists by not only fans of the series but game magazines, sites and had bagged many awards such as GOTY 2005 which it truly deserved. That was when the series changed it evolved with great controls, good pacing and many other good things.

What the game didn't have you do was certain button prompts every 5 or so minutes, rubbish inventory system, poor combat and the various quick time events only really happened at key points not all the time whereas with number 6 it did. You didn't have to keep pressing L or R to climb a rope or rapaidly press the certain button 3 times in a shark chase. Yes you did if Del Lago managed to knock you out of the boat but that was to be expected.

I have also heard people comment and saying why they say it's good because it's a big game. So a big game doesn't mean a better game. I mean Sonic 2006 had about 3 stories and a final version and that was s***. Some people are saying Kevin doesn't know what he is talking about well to be honest I can actually see where he was coming from.

Worst of all are the people who say why can't they just accept Resident Evil has moved on. We have since number 4 which is a magnifcent game and still worth a playthrough now and again. It's likle fans are thinking it's people who played the older games are b****ing about it. Wrong people who played the likes of RE4 are too. Why can't some people just admit that it was bad game.

I just don't like it when some people have a go at certain people or sites thinking they got it wrong. I always determine a game on how it plays and it's enjoyable. The controls are a mess, Quick Time Events to frequent and most of all the inventory system sucks. Oh and Chris Redfields campaign is basically similar to COD and it's boring.

I didn't base my review on GS opinion I thought overall it was a bad game the demo sucked and the actual game does as well. People gave good valid reasons so stop having a go at them.

Resident Evil 6 is an all time low I can't believe how far the series has fallen

Today I really saw the flaws with RE6 and the game has to many cut scenes, too many button prompts and also things that kill you like vechiles that you can't see till the very last minute and when you realise it you are dead.

Leons campaign while good there are alot of button prompts and some prompts I didn't even know what I was supposed to be doing. The gameplay is like the old Resident Evil of old but it doesn't work when every 5 or so seconds you have to dodge an attack or mash a button. It doesn't feel like I am playing an RE game at all press Square,X or Circle all the time.

Chris Redfields is the worst it doesn't feel like your playing an RE game point blank it feels like you playing COD or games like that and you know I hate games like that.

Jakes is basically a mix of both really which is okay but it seems that you have to do alot of running in his gameplay from things and Adas is a solo campaign which is okay but do you really want to beat all 3 scenarios because Chris espically is so boring.

Overall for some things you have to either drive or man turrets and even dodge obstacles at times and the melee combat makes most of the enemies seem a push over really. Also the inventory is screwed I'd give RE5 some complents that you could store it and use it for another time like RE2,3 or the earlier ones did but for some you have to either drop healing items or ammo for a very powerful gun.

The graphics are good I won't lie and some of the cut scenes are pretty good the problem being there's just to many of them that stops the game from flowing.

Overall Resident Evil 6 is in fact the worst RE title I have played it is so frustrating with the item slots and the amount of times you have to press certain buttons. I never drove a car in RE2 or 4. The 40 hour gameplay can't save it in fact that hampers it.

I just can't believe how far it has gone downhill since RE4 which was a high point I expect the series to continue the trend after that but games like this and Operation Raccoon City show Capcom are just trying to make a quick buck. They have only made one good RE game this year and that was RE Revelations.

It is so bad I am trading it in tomorrow when I go to town.

I gave RE6 a 5.0

Compare that to the magnificent RE4 which I gave a 9.7 to.

Also can I point out I have written a review but there is something clearly wrong with the game reviews section on Gamespot.

Resident Evil 6 Leons campaign first impressions

I got Resident Evil 6 today I ignored all the negative reviews and decided to see what I was getting and try it for myself. Any I have only played Leons campaign since it started it out as the introduction.

First thoughts I think it's got solid controls the inventory isn't as hard as I thought it would be second time playing the game. The game does have the basic view like in RE4 and 5 and I actually like how you can rotate it 360 degrees. While the puzzles aren't as amazing as say number 2 or 3 it does have some pretty interesting ones and there is a bit of backtracking which makes it solid. Also you can shoot whilst moving which has been needed. Co - op players can jump in and leave at anytime. Also you can get new skills after the end of each chapter so collecting the currency unlocks new and improved abilities, I will give Capcom some credit.

With postives there are negatives. The character AI when your playing solo is that they don't seem to get hurt and they don't have to worry about ammo and the Melee combat whilst new sometimes does seem a bit overpowered against certain enemies. Also they do seem to be quiet a few to many scenes early on and quiet alot of quick time events.

Overall so far Leons campaign I am actually enjoying and I have to say Gamespot were very harsh with their review. I'd give Leons campaign so far about a 8.5 SERIOUSLY. It's a nice mix of old school gameplay with puzzles. It seems a mix of both past and present but I don't think it's as bad as people are making it out to be. Yes I know Chris doesn't look to interesting but I will see what happens.

Ouch GS Review 4.5 for RE6 is the series going down the drain

The reviews are flooding in now a 8.8 from Gametrailers,7.9 from IGN and just now a 4.5 from GS can RE6 be really that bad really.

I aren't gonna be put off by the review scores because I am a big fan of the series but even I wasn't impressed by the game demo it looked clunky but I shall still get it anyway on Day 1 and if I start losing interest or just don't feel like finishing it I will stop playing it.

The series itself does seem to have suffered an identity crisis but I am gonna buy RE6 I dn't think it will be as bad as GS makes it but I don't expect it to be anywhere near the standard of the classics like Code Veronica,Remake and 2.

I guess I will see for myself in the end whether the game is any good or not but if I don't end up enjoying it I shall trade it in for either Dishonored on the 12th October or DOA5.

I wasn't a fan of the demo but I shall give it look.

Beaten Resident Evil 3 Nemesis

Today I managed to beat Resident Evil 3 Nemesis just a few hours ago and here are my overall thoughts.

It is certainly a very good with alot of incredible incidents. I liked the idea of having to choose between 2 choices at one point and also mixing Gunpowder to make certain bullets.

As for the baddies the Hunters returned an enemy called Deimos I think and the bosses one of them being the GraveDigger who made the ground above you crack and it began to chase you. The boss itself was one heck of a fight.

Now onto the main threat in the game Nemesis. What makes this game so awesome is this guy will come out at you when you least expect it. He can come through doors and window and just when you think you've killed him he is getting back up and on your tail again.

Overall a very enjoyable experience because I missed most of the old RE games but I can understand why they are regarded so highly. If you have any thoughts about RE3 please comment below.

The first Mass Effect will finally be heading to PS3

Today it is comfirmed that the Mass Effect trilogy shall be making it's way to the PS3. This is great news for PS3 owners like me who never got to play the very first game and having played 2 and 3 and loving them I am over the moon that this has been announced.

Mass Effect along with Uncharted is my favorite IP from this gen and I can safely say I will have experienced all 3 of them. It is coming out in November from what I know. This can only be good news for PS3 owners.

Won't be getting to many games from the looks of things this Fall

Unlike this time last year where games came out left, right and center virtually every week or on the same day this time there is probably only about 3 or 4 which I shall be getting.

Last year in 2011 I got Skyward Sword,Batman Arkham City,Uncharted 3,Rayman Origins,Mario Land 3DS,Mario Kart 7.Sonic Generations, Ico/Shadow of the Colossous etc. This time there's hardly anything for me.

I have 4 games I have on my list but 1 of them doesn't have a solid release date for the UK but I am sure it will make the holiday season. The games I will be getting are Resident Evil 6 yes I am looking forward to it even though the demo was a bit iffy I am going to try it for myself. There's also Dishonored which is an October release for Europe and the US and it's a new IP so I might try that out as well. Then there is Assassins Creed 3 on the 31st October and boy am I looking forward to this.

A game that doesn't have a solid release is Paper Mario Sticker Star but the UK doesn't have a solid release date just a late 2012 release whereas the US has 11th November release.

There are possible maybe like Playstation All Stars Battle Royale and some new F1 game called F1 Stars and maybe just maybe I might get LittleBigPlanet Racing.

There are some PSN games I am possibly gonna try like Ratchet and Clank Full Frontal Assault but that might be the only PSN game I am getting. Apart from that nothing is really jumping out at me and no I aren't buying a WiiU.

Starting to get interested in Dishonored what are your thoughts about it

This game called Dishonored in the last few days has really caught my eye and it looks like it has potential to be a very title and is a new IP I am considering adding it to my wishlist. The plot about revenge and such has me interested and seems to be different to a few games I have seen.

I ean I sometimes hold back against new IPs but this is looking like it has massive potential to be a smash hit I'd like to know your thoughts about it.

Where do you think that the problems lie in Resident Evil at the moment ?

Another topic regarding Resident Evil and being a fan for a very long time I can see the series has lost it's touch but the question is what made it lose it's touch in the first place.

Personally in Resident Evil 4 while some will complain I really thought Capcom nailed the controls with an over the Shoulder view and laser sighter. I also liked ther idea you could save at will without having to worry about Ink Ribbons.

Also what made the old RE games so atmoshpheric was that it was a solo mission. You either played as Jill,Chris,Leon or Claire and whilst you would run into the occasional secondary character but they weren't holding your hand through the entire game. When I think survival horror I think being alone in a dark enviroment surrounded by dangerous obstacles and enemies and you always suspected the unexpected.

Ask an RE fans most memorable moments like the first time they saw the Licker fly across the window in the station or the Hunter following them back to the Mansion. They were probably thinking what is that and they knew it was something was waiting for them.

The thing is you want a game with a Solo experience Zelda has it,Metal Gear has it,Metroid has it. I don't know about Zombies carrying guns either because technically they aren't that smart and shouldn't really be carrying them. What I also like about the old RE games was that sometimes a door would be locked and you needed a tool to get the required key or tool to get you through tto the next area. Yes it required backtracking but as you went back enemies sometimes would change and try to halt your progress of getting there and thats another thing puzzles as well it's like it's all about action. I mean there are loads of action in games but at points they break it out like God of War for example. Hack N Slash is fun but a nice puzzle to break up the play is a good change.

Also I think RE is survival horror and many people tell me that it was about making every shot count and conserving ammo whereas now you seem to pick ammo up as like you would coins from Mario or Rings from Sonic. It's a bit like with all this ammo lying around you are much more superior to your enemies. Now I played Code Veronica and I have to say that conserving ammo in that game is a must.

I just think the series needs a reality check what I am saying is the developers need to realise that Resident Evil isn't what it was in the past but a good RE game can be made. Revelations says yes to that. I know people associate zombies with RE they are like the Goombas of RE but there are other enemies as well like Lickers,Hunters,Crows,Cerberus Dogs and such. What I also liked about some of the older game like number 3 was Nemesis who was constantly a threat you didnt know where and when the first time you were playing when he was gonna show his face. That is what Resident Evil is about. There was Mr X,Birkin,Nemesis who were consistantly breathing to come out and tear you apart. The adds to the survival aspect because you didn't know when they were coming.

I a not saying that some new things haven't been a bad move but most of the things that RE needs is to think about what made it great in the first place and I think some of these are maybe key to why it's lost it's touch. If you have any other suggestions or would like to agree or disagree with any of the things I mentioned please do. I am not gonna hold it against you if you disagree with any of the things I have listed.

I just don't want to see one of my favorite franchise in gaming go the same way as other series have.
